  • The three-dimensional Euler equations are solved numerically for the analysis of contraction flows in wind or water tunnels. A second-order finite difference method is used for the spatial discretization on the nonstaggered grid system and the 4-stage Runge-Kutta scheme for the numerical integration in time. In order to speed up the convergence, the local time stepping and the implicit residual-averaging schemes are introduced. The pressure field is obtained by solving the pressure-Poisson equation with the Neumann boundary condition. For the evaluation of the present Euler solver, numerical computations are carried out for three contraction geometries, one of which was adopted in the Large Cavitation Channel for the U.S. Navy. The comparison of the computational results with the available experimental data shows good agreement.

  • It is well known that preconditioning methods are efficient for convergence acceleration at compressible low Mach number flows. In this study, the original Euler equations and three preconditioners nondimensionalized differently are implemented in two dimensional inviscid bump flows using the 3rd order MUSCL and DADI schemes as flux discretization and time integration respectively. The multigrid and local time stepping methods are also used to accelerate the convergence. The test case indicates that a properly modified local preconditioning technique involving concepts of a global preconditioning one produces Mach number independent convergence. Besides, an asymptotic analysis for properties of preconditioning methods is added.

  • Recently, higher speed optical disk drives including computer CD-ROM drives tend to be increasingly demanded to read or write the enormous volume of digital data. To this end, both structure and controller designs of the optical pick-ups should be improved concurrently. In this paper, the pick-up during auto-focusing motion is mathematically modelled retaining all its peculiar features. The model turns out a linear time invariant system suitable for a control design namedH${\infty}$ which ensures robust stability in the presence of system uncertainties. Numerical simulations are performed to demonstrate the robustness with appropriate performance specifications being satisfied. In addition, as the implementation issue of it, procedures of temporal discretization as well as model reduction of the controller are also addressed.

  • Preconditioned compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved for almost incompressible flows. Unstructured meshes are utilized for spatial discretization of complex flow domain. Effectiveness of the current preconditioning algorithm, with respect to various Reynolds numbers and Mach numbers, is demonstrated by the solution of canonical problems for incompressible flows, e.g. driven cavity flows.

  • In this paper, a new dual-rate digital control technique for the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system is suggested. The proposed method takes account of the stabilizablity of the discrete-time T-S fuzzy system at the fast-rate sampling points. Our main idea is to utilize the lifted control input. The proposed approach is to obtain the dual-rate discrete-time T-S fuzzy system by discretizing the overall dynamics of the T-S fuzzy system with the lifted control, and then to derive the sufficient conditions for the stabilization in the sense of the Lyapunov asymptotic stability for this system. An example is provided for showing the feasibility of the proposed discretization method.

  • A Multi-grid method is introduced to Finite Element Analysis of electromagnetic field problems in order to reduce the computational time. The puropse of this work is to study how to intermix discretization and solving process, thereby making the process more effective and to find the optimal factors of Multi-grid method. Several numerical experiments with linear models of uniform and nonuniform grids confirm that the proposed algorithm can reduce the computational time very effectively as compared with con ventional iterative methods. The best results are obtained with V cycle and S.O.R. with the acce leration factor of 1.3-1.4 for smoothing.

  • An implicit turbulent flow solver is developed for 2-D unstructured hybrid meshes. Spatial discretization is accomplished by a cell-centered finite volume formulation using an upwind flux differencing. Time is advanced by an implicit backward Euler time stepping scheme. Flow turbulence effects are modeled by the Spalart-Allmaras one equation model, which is coupled with wall function. The numerical method is applied for flows on a flat plate, the NACA 0012 airfoil, and the Douglas 3 element airfoil. The results are compared with experimental data.

  • The low-speed preconditioning technique is applied to solve the compressible Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations for low-speed flows. The space discretization is based on Roe's flux-difference splitting with third-order-accurate MUSCL extrapolation. Time integration is performed employing a diagonal approximate factorization algorithm. The dual-time stepping has been incorporated to solve the unsteady flows. Full multigrid method is implemented to accelerate the convergence rate. To verify the algorithms several cases have been tested. Demonstrated the improvement on convergence and quality of the solution.
