  • The increaseing speeds are accompanied by decreases in pulse rise and fall time in VLSI circuits. These accenturate the high frequency spectral contents of the signals and cause the frequency dependent loss of the conductors which interconnect the various sub-circuits composing of VLSI circuit. The lossy effect is approximated by the square root of frequency dependence of the per unit length resistance. In the practical applications, several problems may arise along with this approximation, so we extend our investigation of the lossy effect by numerical Laplace inversion method.

  • The reinforcing effect of modified structure of PSC beams is analyzed in this study. The PSC beams are closed by precast half panels embeding PS tendons at the bottom flange of I-bear The stiffness of box structure is larger and the PS force at half panels makes a time-dependent upward camber of superstructures. The superstructure becomes a second composite structure among 3 elements-PSC ben RC slab, PSC Panel. The time-dependent creep and shrinkage effect at PSC Panels and structural behavior is verified considering construction sequences. The optimal range of to-box reinforcing method is surveyed through reliability analysis.

  • Toxic effect of Hexavalent chromium $(CrO_3)$ on various cells and organs has been well recognized. However, the mechanism and degree of cytotoxicity of $CrO_3$ remain unclear. This study was performed to examine the cytotoxicity of $CrO_3$ on $C_6$ glioma cells by measuring cell viability. The XTT assay, one of the sensitive methods to determine the cell viability, was taken to examine the viability of glioma cells treated with $CrO_3$. In this study, not only decreased the number of glioma cells but morphologic changes of them were noted and cell viability decreased in a time and dose-dependent manner after treated with various concentrations of $CrO_3$ for 48hours. $IC_{90}\;and\;IC_{50}$ values in XTT assay were determined at $25{\mu}M\;and\;55{\mu}M$ $CrO_3$, respectively. These results suggest that Hexavalent chromium has a highly cytotoxic effect and has a time and dose-dependent cytotoxicity on $C_6$ glioma cells.

  • Effect of rice protein and lipid on rheological properties of gelatinized rice flour solutions(4%) with three rice varieties(Dongjin, Jinmi, Tamjin) known for varying taste of cooked rice was investigated with Haake viscometer. The rheological behaviors of all rice flour solutions were illustrated by Herschel Bulkley equation and exhibited pseudoplastic behavior with yield stress. When rice flour solutions treated with protease and dithiothreitol, there was decreased in flow behavior index value. Flow behavior index was decreased by dealbumin and deglutelin rice flour solutions among deprotein groups. The Jinmi rice flour solutions exhibited slightly lower consistency index than Dongjin and Tamjin. Defatted rice flour solutions exhibited lower consistency index than rice flour solutions, while dealbumin, deglutelin rice flour solutions exhibited high consistency index. Protease treated rice flour solutions exhibited increase in Dongjin and Tamjin. The yield stress was increased in sequence eating quality. Yield stress of defatted rice flour solutions was decreased, while deglutelin and rice starch flour solutions was increased. The time dependent charac teristics of all rice flour solutions appeared forming hysteresis loop and thixotropic behavior showed. The time dependent characteristics was appeared in sequence eating quality. Rice starch and deglutelin flour solutions appeared greatly time dependent characteristics, but defatted rice flour solutions appeared very little.

  • This study presents seismic responses of 5-story reinforced concrete structures retrofitted with the buckling-restrained braces using a time-dependent element. The time-dependent element having birth and death times can freely be activated within the user defined time intervals during the time history analysis. The buckling-restrained brace that showed the largest energy dissipation capacity among the test specimens in previous research was used for retrofitting the RC buildings in this study. It was assumed that the first story of the damaged building under the first earthquake was retrofitted with the buckling-restrained braces considered as the time-dependent element before the second of the successive earthquakes occurs. Under this assumption, this paper compares seismic responses of the RC structures with the time-dependent element subjected to the successive earthquake. Subjected to the second earthquake, it was observed that activation of the BRB systems largely decreases deformation of the moment frame where the damage was concentrated under the first earthquake. However, damages to the shear wall systems were increased after activation of the BRB systems. Since the cumulative damages of the shear wall systems were infinitesimal compared with the retrofit effect of the moment frame, the BRB system was effective under the successive earthquake.

  • The inhibitory effect of pooled canine serum on the growth of ten strains of Malassezia pachydermatis in vitro was investigated. Studies were also carried out to observe the effect of different concentrations of unsaturated bovine transferrin on Malassezia growth in vitro. Ten strains of Malassezia pachygedrmatis in normal canine serum (11.1%, 44.4%) were found to significantly inhibit the growth (p<0.0005) not only in a dose dependent but also in a time dependent manner. The same strains of yeast treated with 1, 2, 4 and 8 times the normal value of serum transferrin (3.0 mg/ml, 6.0 mg/ml, 12.0 mg/ml, 24.0 mg/fl), were shown to have significantly lower OD readings (p<0.05) when compared to yeast treated in lower concentrations of transferrin (1.5 mg/ml). The optical density (OD) of the ten strains of yeast were significantly lower (p<0.005) when treated with various concentrations of transferrin than with the saline control except at 72 hours post incubation. These results indicate that serum has inhibitory effects on Malassezia pachydermatis growth in vitro, and transfferin is one of the components that contribute towards this inhibitory role. The inhibitions are dose and time dependent.

  • The application of shape memory alloys (SMAs) to the seismic response reduction of civil engineering structures has attracted growing interest due to their self-centering feature and excellent fatigue performance. The loading rate dependence of SMAs raises a concern in the seismic analysis of SMA-based devices. However, the implementation of micromechanics-based strain-rate-dependent constitutive models in structural analysis software is rather complicated and computationally demanding. This paper investigates the feasibility of replacing complex rate-dependent models with rate-independent constitutive models for superelastic SMA elements in seismic time-history analysis. Three uniaxial constitutive models for superelastic SMAs, including one rate-dependent thermomechanical model and two rate-independent phenomenological models, are considered in this comparative study. The pros and cons of the three nonlinear constitutive models are also discussed. A parametric study of single-degree-of-freedom systems with different initial periods and strength reduction factors is conducted to examine the effect of the three constitutive models on seismic simulations. Additionally, nonlinear time-history analyses of a three-story prototype steel frame building with special SMA-based damping braces are performed. Two suites of seismic records that correspond to frequent and design basis earthquakes are used as base excitations in the seismic analyses of steel-braced frames. The results of this study show that the rate-independent constitutive models, with their parameters properly tuned to dynamic test data, are able to predict the seismic responses of structures with SMA-based seismic response modification devices.

  • This article addresses the quasi-static analysis of time-dependent honeycomb sandwich plates with various geometrical properties based on the bending analysis of elastic honeycomb sandwich plates employing a time function with three unknown coefficients. The novel point of the developed method is that the responses of viscoelastic honeycomb sandwich plates under static transversal loads are clearly formulated in the space and time domains with very low computational costs. The mechanical properties of the sandwich plates are supposed to be elastic for the faces and viscoelastic honeycomb cells for the core. The Boltzmann superposition integral with the constant bulk modulus is used for modeling the viscoelastic material. The shear effect is expressed using the first-order shear deformation theory. The displacement field is predicted by the product of a determinate geometrical function and an indeterminate time function. The simple HP cloud mesh-free method is utilized for discretizing the equations in the space domain. Two coefficients of the time function are extracted by answering the equilibrium equation at two asymptotic times. And the last coefficient is easily determined by solving the first-order linear equation. Numerical results are presented to consider the effects of geometrical properties on the displacement history of viscoelastic honeycomb sandwich plates.

  • Generally, among many kinds of shading devices such as venetian blind, sunscreen, louver and curtain, venetian blind is using widely because the mechanism is so simple and easy to use solar insolation by controlling the slat angle. Analysis of time dependent heat transfer through the window with venetian blind is very important in order to use it effectivly. Therefore, in this study, theoretical thermal analysis method was developed to analyze time dependent heat transfer through a double pane window with and without venetian blind, and was made one module of TRNSYS(A Transient Simulation Program)program. By this way, it was analyzed that how much the variation of slat angle, slat colour and slat absorptivity of venetian blind would be affected on the heating and cooling load of building, and also which colour and angle of slat was optimal for the heating and cooling load of building.

  • Extradosed PSC Box bridges, newly emerging type of structures in construction market, have a characteristic in that external tendons are used for strengthening PSC Box girder like stay cables in cable stayed bridges. In this study, a series of constructions stage analysis procedure, including initial shape analysis, backward analysis and forward analysis, have been performed in order to investigate long-term behavior of extradosed PSC box bridges, using PCCAP-a computer program for time-dependent stage analysis of PSC cable stayed bridges. CEB-FIP 1978 model was used for the consideration of time-dependent effect of concrete material. Showing the validity of the analysis results with RM SPACE FRAME, it has been confirmd that time-dependent effects become less consequential as the stiffness of girder becomes larger.
