  • Recent power electronics and variable-frequency motor drive technologies have been applied to air conditioners to improve efficiency and power density. However, the mechanical vibrations and acoustic noise resulting from the compressor still remain as a serious problem. This paper presents the development and implementation of an online disturbance state-filter for the suppression of multiple unknown and time-varying vibrations of air conditioning systems. The proposed design has a form of the state-filter based on a Luenburger-style closed-loop speed observer. An active vibration decoupling strategy with an estimated disturbance is provided, which manipulates a motor torque command. Since the proposed estimation does not require any additional transducers or hardware for obtaining real-time information upon disturbances, it is suitable for retrofitting industrial air conditioners.

  • We formulate a stochastic control problem on proportional reinsurance that includes impulse and regular control strategies. For the first time we combine impulse control with regular control, and derive the expected total discount pay-out (return function) from present to bankruptcy. By relying on both stochastic calculus and the classical theory of impulse and regular controls, we state a set of sufficient conditions for its solution in terms of optimal return function. Moreover, we also derive its explicit form and corresponding impulse and regular control strategies.

  • In this paper, a chattering alleviation ISM speed controller for the sinusoidal type BIDC motor is designed. Dead Zone function is proposed to change the chattering occurring in the transient state form high frequency to low frequency and time-varying gains are applied for the control input to eliminate the steady state excessive chattering in the conventional ISM. The proposed Dead Zone function represents the sliding layer composed of two switching surfaces and if a state vector exists in this layer, the chattering don’t occur. Simulation and experimental results confirm the useful effects of the above algorithm.

  • Guaranteed cost control is a method applicable to a class of systems with uncertain parameters that guarantees an upper bound of the cost functional. This paper is concerned with a matrix decomposition technique used to yield a reasonable upper bound of the cost functional for a finite-time LQ regulator problem. The uncertain linear systems dealt with in this paper are described by a set of state equations of single-input phase-variable canonical form which contain unknown but bounded uncertain parameters.

  • In this paper, the time-averaged behavior of the three-phase Inductor-Converter Bridge (ICB) circuit has been analyzed by using the state-space averaging method. The results are in closed form far from the results obtained by using the Fourier series. Therefore, the computational difficulties of the infinite Fourier series can be avoided and the results derived in this paper are available especially in real time control. Unlike the SFC, $S^{4}LCL$, DFC and other circuits which have time varying switching intervals for a constant time-averaged value of coil voltage, the ICB circuits operate with a clock-driven sequence of gate pulses which have constant switching intervals.

  • In this work an integrated model for paper plants combining wet-end and dry section is developed and a model predictive control scheme based on the plant model is proposed. Closed-loop process identification method is employed to produce a state-space model. Thick stock, filler flow, machine speed and steam pressure are selected as input variables and basis weight, ash content and moisture content are considered as output variables. The desired output trajectory is constructed in the form of 1st-order dynamics. Results of simulations for control of grade change operations are compared with plant operation data collected during the grade change operations under the same conditions as in simulations. From the comparison, we can see that the proposed model predictive control scheme reduces the grade change time and achieves stable steady-state.

  • Today, most fixed-wing aircrafts are equipped with the antiskid brake system. It can modulate braking moments in the wheels optimally, when an aircraft is landing. So it can reduce landing distance and increase safeties. The antiskid brake system for an aircraft are mainly composed of braking moment modulators (hydraulic control valves) and brake control unit. In this paper, a Mark IV type - fully digital - brake controller is studied. For the development of its control algorithms, a 5-DOF (Degree of Freedom) aircraft landing model is composed in the form of matlab/simulink model at first. Then, braking moment control algorithms using wheel decelerations and slips are made. The developed algorithms are tested in software simulations using state-flow toolboxes in matlab/simulink model. Also, a real-time simulation systems are made, which use hydraulic brake systems of a real aircraft, pressure control valves and its controller as hardware components of HIL(Hardware In-the-Loop) simulation. Algorithms tested in software simulations are coded into the controller and the real-time landing simulations are made in very severe road conditions. The real-time simulation results are presented.

  • The time-averaged behavior of the three-phase Inductor-Converter Bridge (ICB) circuit has been analyzed by using the state-space averaging method. Especially, a second order approximation in the matrix expansion makes the analysis possible. The results are in a closed form which is quite different from the conventional solution obtained by using the Fourier Series. Therefore, the computational difficulties in evaluating the infinite Fourier series can be avoided and the results derived in this paper are available expecially in real time control. By comparing with the Fourier result, it has been verified that the analysis by means of the state-space averaging method is more accurate and simple. The digital simulation and the equivalent experiments have also been carried out to confirm the theoretical results.

  • In this paper, we consider the optimal control of detection threshold to minimize the conditional mean-square state estimation error for the probabilistic data association (PDA) filter. Earlier works on this problem involved the cumbersome graphical optimization algorithm or time-consuming numerical optimization algorithm. Using the numerical approximation of information reduction factor, we obtained the closed-form optimal detection threshold. This results are very useful for real-time implemenation.

  • This paper proposes two types of the preview algorithms to predict the joint velocities and joint positions, and deals with a control approach using the preview algorithms for the precise trajectory control. Specifically, a predictor an the form of discrete time state equations is proposed based on the robot dynamics model linearized by the computed torque method. And another state predictor is proposed by the beat line fitting in the least square sense, where present joint velocities and positions and several past positions are employed. Then computer simulations are performed for the SCARA robot with two d.o.f. to show the validities of the proposed algothrithms.
