트랙킹 열화에 미치는 오손액과 표면거칠기의 영향 (The Effect of Contaminants and Surface Roughness on Tracking Aging)

  • We have studied the effect of surface tension and flow rate of contaminants, wettability, frequency of applied voltage dependence of tracking breakdown. As the flow rate of contaminant is increasd, the surface resistivity is decreased, and the leakage current is increased, the time to tracking breakdown is decreased. It is found that time to tracking breakdown depends on the frequency of contaminant, that is difference of wettability. And as the frequency of applied voltage is increased, time to tracking breakdown decreased.

호박운모의 절연파괴특성에 미치는 열처리의 영향에 관한 연구 (A Research on the Effects of Heat Treatment on the Breakdown Characteristics of Amber Miea)

  • The contents of this paper are the effects of heat treatment on the breakdown strength of Amber Mica. In this study the breakdown strength of Amber Mica of which thickness is about 0.2-0.5(mm) was found to be raised by approximately 10% when it is heat treated at proper temperature and during suitable interval of time. Furthermore, both the heat-treatment temperature and time interval are higher and longer respectively within some extent, the more breakdown strength increasing effects are able to be expected. The results of this experiments are explained qualitively by the existence of contained gas, Hippel's breakdown theory in crystal solid insulator, and disorder of crystal structure.

과전압 보호용 황동전극 기체방전관의 절연파괴 특성 (The Electrical Breakdown Characterization of Gas Discharge Tube using Brass Electrode for Surge Protector)

  • 본 연구에서는 기체방전관의 과전압 보호 성능과 수명에 미치는 절연파괴 특성을 알아보기 위하여 황동전극을 이용하여 기체방전관을 제조하였다. 황동전극을 이용한 기체방전관의 절연파괴 특성은 인가전압의 기울기와 방전관 내부의 질소기체 압력을 통하여 알아보았다. 방전관 인가전압의 기울기가 증가할수록 절연파괴 전압과 방전 시 소비되는 에너지량이 크게 상승되었고, 절연파괴 시간은 감소되었다. 방전관 내부 질소기체의 압력이 감소할수록 절연파괴 전압과 절연파괴 소요시간, 방전 소비에너지량이 크게 감소되었다. 결과적으로, 방전관의 과전압 보호 성능 및 수명을 증진시키기 위해서는 절연파괴 전압과 절연파괴 소요시간, 방전 시 소비되는 에너지량이 감소되어야 함을 알 수 있었다. 한편, 방전관 내부 질소기체 압력이 방전관의 자체 수명 및 과전압 보호 성능에 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다.

Underwater Discharge Phenomena in Inhomogeneous Electric Fields Caused by Impulse Voltages

  • The paper describes the electrical and optical properties of underwater discharges in highly inhomogeneous electric fields caused by 1.2/50 ${\mu}s$ impulse voltages as functions of the polarity and amplitude of the applied voltage, and various water conductivities. The electric fields are formed by a point-to-plane electrode system. The formation of air bubbles is associated with a thermal process of the water located at the tip of the needle electrode, and streamer coronas can be initiated in the air bubbles and propagated through the test gap with stepped leaders. The fastest streamer channel experiences the final jump across the test gap. The negative streamer channels not only have more branches but are also more widely spread out than the positive streamer channels. The propagation velocity of the positive streamer is much faster than that of the negative one and, in fact, both these velocities are independent of the water conductivity; in addition the time-lag to breakdown is insensitive to water conductivity. The higher the water conductivity the larger the pre-breakdown energy, therefore, the ionic currents do not contribute to the initiation and propagation of the underwater discharges in the test conditions considered.

Discharge Characteristics in Soils Subjected to Lightning Impulse Voltages

  • In this paper, we present experimental results of the soil discharge characteristics as a function of moisture content when a 1.2/50-㎲ lightning impulse voltage is applied. For this study, laboratory experiments were carried out based on factors affecting the transient behavior in soils. The electrical breakdown voltages in soils were measured for a 0-6% range of moisture content for sand and a 0 - 4% range of moisture content for gravel. A test cell with semi-spherical electrodes buried face-to-face in the middle of a cylindrical container was used. The distance separating the electrodes is 100 mm. As a result, the time-lag to breakdown in soils decreases as the amplitude of applied voltage increases. The time-lag to initiation of ionization streamer is decreased, with an increase in the moisture content. However, the formative time-lag is rarely changed. The behavior of soil discharges depend not only on the type of soil and its moisture content but also on the amplitude of the impulse voltage. When the test voltage is applied repeatedly, electrical breakdown occurs along different discrete paths, leading radially away from the injected electrode. i.e., the fact that the ionization streamers propagate in different paths from shot to shot was observed.

  • Internal voids in insulators give rise to partial discharge, which causes a local breakdown and even entire insulation breakdown. Recently, the necessity of establishing the way to diagnose the aging of insulation materials and to predict of insulation breakdown become important. The purpose of our work are to investigate the treeing phenomena with an artificial needle shaped void by the charge of discharge and acoustic emission pulse in each phase angle area at the same time. We analyzed the .PHI.-QA-t pattern and .PHI.-AEA-t pattern using statistic operators such as pulse magnitude, pulse number, skewness, kurtosis. Therefore, the relation between the charge of discharge and acoustic emission pulse will be helpful to predict the breakdown just before the breakdown occur.

  • This paper describes AC test for long delivered drum length of cable using pre-breakdown partial discharge detection(PPD) method, which can be applied to observe the causes of electrical breakdown of EHV XLPE insulation. This method is to de-energize applied voltage to cable rapidly using pre-breakdown partial discharge, and is able to prevent complete breakdown. By this effect, defects such as voids, metal particles and protrusion in cable can be observed clearly. AC resonant test set was used for PPD method. Localization of partial discharge was performed by time difference detection of the traveling wave. Accuracy of localization was 1% to the length of test cable. Through several experiments with XLPE cable, successful results of PPD method were obtained.

  • This paper shows the discharge characteristics of liquid nitrogen under plane to plane electrode, needle to plance electrode, inserting teflon insulator in plane to plane electrode at atmospheric pressure. The main experimental device of this paper is cryostat. The important results obtained from this study are sa follows. Breakdown voltage of LN2 under N-P electrode is higher than that of under P-P electrode at atmospheric pressure. Breakdown duration time is longer with increase of electode gap under the P-P, N-P electrodes. The formation of bubbles by evaporation is observed in spite of non-applying source at atmospheric pressure and the creation of corona confirmed. Breakdown voltage and breakdown duration time are in proportion to increase of diameter in case of inserting teflon insulator. Partial discharge characteristics of thickness 0.5[mm] is that 채굼 voltage of teflon insulator rose with increase of diameter in each [pps].

  • Since the integration level of VLSI circuits progresses very quickly, a highly reliable thin $SiO_2$ film is required to fabricate a small-geometry MOS device. In the present study we have attempted to eliminate the failure-causing defects that develop in thin oxide films during the oxidation step by performing a long-time preoxidation and postoxidation annealing. The TDDB test and the copper decoration method were used to calculate the oxide defects density of MOS device. The dielectric reliability of high-quality thin oxides have been studied by using the time-zero-dielectric-breakdown (ramp-voltage-stressed I-V) and time-dependent-dielectric -breakdown (Constant-stressed I-V) tests. Failure times against temperature and electric field are examined and acceleration factors are abtained for each parameter. Based on the data obtained, breakdown wearout limitation for thin oxide films is estimated.

p-n 접합에 있어서의 비등방성 응력효과 (Anisotropic stress Effects in p-n junction)

  • The effects of anisotropic mechanical stress applied normal to the surface of p-n junctions have been investigated. As the stress increased, the breakdown voltage was decreased and the breakdown mode became softer. Within a certain limitation in the applied stress, the above phenomena werw reversibbe, though relaxation and hysteresis phenomena were observed. The time constant of relaxation depended upon the shape of the stressing tip, but for the given tip and device a unique time constant was obtained. The stress.dependence of breakdown voltage showed a good linearity up to about 3.0${\times}10^4$ kgw/$\textrm{cm}^2$, when the flat tip of radius 15$\mu$ was used, and the temperatere-dependence of breakdown voltage under the stress also showed a good linearity in the temperature range of 100 to $300^{\circ}K$.
