Although the product line produces a large volume of goods in a relatively short time, once the product line is established there are numerous problems that arise in connection with this product line. One of these problems is the problem of balancing operations or stations in terms of equal times and in terms of the times required to meet the desered rate of production. The objective of line balancing is minimizing the idle time on the line for all combinations of work stations subject to certain restrictions. In general, there are two types of line-balancing situations : (1) assembly line balancing and (2) fabrication line balancing. Two approaches to the assembly line balancing problem have been used. The first assumes a filed cycle time and find the optimum number of work stations. The second approach to the assembly line balancing problem assumes the number of work stations to be fixed and systematically coverages on a solution which minimizes the total delay time by minimizing the cycle time. Here the cycle time is determined by the longest station time. In this paper, by using the second approach method, a general mathematical model, problem solutions, and computer program for the assembly line balancing problem is presented. Data used is obtained from the company which has been confronted with many problems arising in connection with their assembly line.
Spatial detection system such as AVI, GPS, and Beacon etc. can provide spatial travel time only after a vehicle Passes through a road section. In this context, majority of the existing studies on the link travel time estimation area has focused on the arrival time-based link travel time estimation. rather than departure time-based link travel time estimation. Even if some of the researches on this area have developed departure time-based link travel time estimation algorithms, they are limited in that they are not applicable in a real-time mode. The objective of this study is to develop an departure time-based link travel time estimation algorithm which is applicable in a real-tine mode. Firstly, this study discussed the tradeoff between accuracy and timeliness of the departure time-based on-line link travel time estimates. Secondly, this study developed an departure time-based on-line link travel time estimation algorithm which utilizes the Baysian inference logic. It was found that the proposed approach could estimate departure time-based link travel times in a real-time context with an acceptable accuracy and timeliness.

The efficiency of automated assembly line is increased by realizing the automation of each assembly cell, monitoring the line information and developing the real-time line control system it. which production flow is controllable. In this paper, the several modules which are important factors when constructing automated real-time control system, such as, line control S/W module, real-time model change module, error handling module and line production management S/W module, are developed. For developing these important programming modules, real-time control and multi-tasking techniques are integrated. In this paper, operating method of real-time line control in PCB automated assembly line is proposed and for effective control of production line by using multi-tasking technique, proper operating method for relating real-time line control with multi-tasking is proposed by defining the levels of signals and tasks. CIM-Oriented modular programming method considering expandability and flexibility will be added for further research in the future.
The production using U-shaped line is studied. This research presents the relationship among machining time, cycle time and production rate in a U-shaped line. The U-shaped line produces shafts by automated machines. In this paper when any production rate is given the U-shaped line always satisfies the production rate. An algorithm is developed for the determination of cycle time, the number of machines and workers of the U-shaped line in order to minimize the total machine capacity and the number of workers for any given production rate. The U-shaped line was successfully designed by applying the proposed algorithm.
Line Balancing is the problem to assign tasks to stations while satisfying some managerial viewpoints. Most researches about the Mixed-Model Line Balancing problems are focused on the minimizing the total processing time or the number of workstations. Independently, some research reports consider the balance issues of the physical workloads on the assembly line. In this paper, we are presenting a new mathematical model to accomplish the line balance considering both the processing time and the workloads at the same time. To this, end, we propose an zero-one integer program problem, and we use the Chebyshev Goal Programming approach as the solution method. Some computational test runs are performed to compare the pay-offs between the processing time and the workloads. And, the test results show us that the reliable balanced work schedules can be obtained through the proposed model.
A new method for simulating voltage and current distributions in transmission lines is described. It gives the time domain solution of the terminal voltage and current as well as their line distributions. This is achieved by treating voltage and current distributions as distributed state variables (DSVs) and turning the transmission line equation into an ordinary differential equation. Thus the transmission line is treated like other lumped dynamic components, such as capacitors. Using backward differentiation formulae for time discretization, the DSV transmission line component is converted to a simple time domain companion model, from which its local truncation error can be derived. As the voltage and current distributions get more complicated with time, a new piecewise exponential with controllable accuracy is invented. A segmentation algorithm is also devised so that the line is dynamically bisected to guarantee that the total piecewise exponential error is a small fraction of the local truncation error. Using this approach, the user can see the line voltage and current at any point and time freely without explicitly segmenting the line before starting the simulation.

In this paper, the Induced voltage on transmission line by lightning was calculated using FDTD method and the lightning parameters such as peak voltage, rise time, and decay time for the lightning location and line length were analyzed. To verify the results, lightning induced voltage was measured in the field using real telecommunication line. Results from the collected data were compared with the calculated results. It was found that the rise time and the decay time were increased as the line length and the distance between the line and lightning location were increased. Also, the peak voltage was affected more by the overhead line length than by the total line length, while the rise time and the decay time were more affected by the total line length.
In order to keep production balance at a mixed-model assembly line and a painting line, large WIP(Work- In-Process) inventories are required between two lines. To increase the efficiency of line handling through reducing the inventories under this circumstance, this paper concerns with a sequencing problem for a mixed-model assembly line that includes a painting line where the uncertain elements regarding the defective products exist. Then, we formulate a new type of the sequencing problem minimizing the line stoppage time and the idle time with forecasting the supply time of the products from the painting line. Finally, we examine the effectiveness of the proposed sequencing through computer simulations.

In this paper, we introduce a new method for detecting and estimating faults on a power line using the time-frequency domain reflectometry system. The system rests upon time-frequency signal analysis and uses a chirp signal which is multiplied by Gaussian envelope. The chirp signal is used as a reference signal, and we can get the reflected signal from a fault on a wire. To detect and estimate faults, we analyze the reflected signal by Wigner time-frequency distribution function and normalized time-frequency cross correlation function. In this paper we design an optimal reference signal for power line and implement a system for estimating fault distance on a power line with the TFDR implemented by PXI equipments. This approach is verified by some experiments with HIV 2.25mm power lines.
In this paper, we developed a new method to transmit multiple visible light channels in time division mode using the AC power line frequency in order to prevent the crosstalk between adjacent optical signals. Synchronizing pulses are generated from the 220 V power line, and one pulse period is subdivided into several time slots for visible light channels. Each channel transmits data in a predefined time slot without interfering adjacent channels. In experiments, synchronizing pulses with a repetition rate of 240 Hz were generated from the 60 Hz power line, and three VLC channels with a bit rate of 9.6 kbps transmitted data independently using the time slots between synchronizing pulses. This configuration is very useful in constructing time division VLC networks for multiple sensors.
