Effect of Declawing on Behavior of Farmed Emus

  • The behavior of declawed emus in a farm environment has not been described despite its importance in the husbandry and welfare of the emu. This study examined whether declawing of emus causes chronic pain resulting in permanent changes in the locomotor and general behavior of declawed yearling emus compared to emus not declawed. One group of 40 emus were declawed on the day of hatch by removing the distal phalangeal joint using a Lyon beak-trimming machine. Another group of 40 emus not declawed were the controls. Declawed emus one year of age were allocated to a paddock $250m{\times}125m$, while the control group was placed in an adjoining paddock of the same dimensions. One hour video records of individual emus from each treatment were made from 08:00 and 17:00 h over 2 periods; firstly when food and water was available and secondly during a period when food and water was not available after being withdrawn overnight. Inactive, ingestive, posture change, grooming, aggressive and locomotor behaviors were monitored from the videotape. There was no behavioral evidence to indicate loss of locomotor ability of declawed emus or to suggest declawed emus were suffering from severe chronic pain as indicated by declawed emus engaging in significantly more bouts (p<0.05) and time of searching (p<0.05). Declawed emus also engaged in less stereotype pacing (p<0.05) indicating they were under less stress and not as frustrated as control birds which engaged in more step pushing behavior (p<0.05). Modelling analysis showed that pecking behavior in birds was most closely related to foraging behavior. Birds subject to pecking attacks demonstrated higher levels of stereotype behavior presumably as a method to cope with stress. The behavioral evidence in this study would indicate that declawing does not compromise the locomotor ability of emus and has the benefit of improving the social structure in the groups by reducing stereotype behavior and aggression.

스트레스 관리 시 호흡치료의 이론적 근거와 기법 적용 (Theoretical Bases and Technical Application of Breathing Therapy in Stress Management)

  • Breathing is essential for life and at the same time takes a role as a antidote for stress. In the Orient, it was recognized early that respiration, mind, and body have a relation that is inseparable and therefore proper breathing is so important. However, since the mechanism of therapeutic effect by breathing have not been verified, the treatment has been continued till recent years. From that which originated in the Orient, several techniques in the west have been developed to regulate breathing, and have been applying to the clinical situation and to studies, however scientific studies are still lacking. Recently, relaxed breathing has been used as an efficient strategy for breathing therapy as it has an effect on reducing physiological tension and arousal, and, therefore can be used as a basic technique to control or manage stress. In this study, in order to provide basic information and guidelines for clinical application, which will aid in the application of the theoretical basics of breathing therapy and its technique, a review of the literative was conducted. The findings are as follows: 1. Since proper breathing not only has, physically, the important function in supplying oxygen to the body but also gives a good emotional, or pleasant state of mind, it is the first step in controlling physical and mental health. 2. The basic types of breathing can be classified into two types; ‘diaphragmatic breathing(relaxed breathing)’ and ‘chest breathing(stress breathing)’. In yoga type breathing, there are four kinds of breathing, ‘upper breathing’, ‘mid breathing’, ‘down breathing’, and ‘complete breathing’. 3. The theoretical explanation of the positive thera peutic effect of breathing therapy techniques exemplifies good brain function, sufficient air flow through the nasal passages, diaphragmatic movement, light vagal stimulation, CO2 changes and cognitive diversion but in most studies, the hypothesis of CO2 is supported. 4. The technique of breathing is designated with many names according to the muscles and techniques used for breathing, and for control of stress, diaphragmatic breathing(relaxed breathing) is explained as a basic technique best used to manage of stress. 5. The relaxed-breathing includes slow diaphragmatic breathing, breath meditation, nasal breathing, yogic abdominal breathing, Benson's relaxed response, and quiet response.

무인항공기의 시스템 식별을 위한 비행시험기법 (A Plight Test Method for the System Identification of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)

  • 본 논문에서는 자동조종장치를 장착한 무인항공기의 시스템 식별을 위한 비행시험기법에 대해 기술하였다. 종운동 및 횡/방향운동 구동입력으로는 멀티스텝 입력을 이용하였다. 각 운동모드에 대해 주파수역 해석을 통해 최적의 입력시간을 설정하였다. 무인항공기의 자동조종장치를 탑재한 비행조종컴퓨터를 이용하여 프로그래밍 모드에서의 비행시험방법으로 종운동과 횡/방향운동의 분리를 통해 시스템 식별을 위한 최적의 자료를 제공하고 있다. 또한 설계치에 근사한 정확한 구동입력을 인가하여 보다 높은 입력주파수를 확보할 수 있었다. 비행시험에서는 안정된 대기상태에서 반복적인 시행을 수행하였으며, 향상된 비행체 탑재 자료저장장치를 이용하여 고품질의 비행자료를 확보하였다. 본 비행시험 기법을 적용하여 획득한 비행자료는 무인항공기의 시스템 식별을 위한 비행자료로 이용되었다.

경직성 양하지마비아의 발목 보조기 착용에 따른 체 중심및 보행속도에 의한 보행인자 변화연구 (A Study on Change in Gait Parameters Related to the Cop and Velocity Resulting from the Use of Ankle Foot Orthosis in Spastic Diplegia)

  • Purpose : The objectives of this study were to examine changes in gait parameters related to the COP and gait velocity resulting from the use of ankle foot orthosis, and to provide information for the prescription of ankle foot orthosis and gait rehabilitation training. Methods : We sampled a control group of 14 normal children of the same age as the spastic diplegia (spastic diplegia used ankle foot orthosis) and measured their COP at barefoot gait and their gait parameters at three gait velocities. Change in the COP according to the use of ankle foot orthosis measured one-way ANOVA and Gait parameters according to gait velocity used repeated measures ANOVA. Results : As a result of analyzing change in the COP it became close to that of normal children, and changes in gait parameters such as step width, stride length and stride time also became close to those of normal children. Conclusion : In conclusion, when spastic diplegia used ankle foot orthosis, their balancing ability was improved as a result of decreased change in the COP, and their changes in gait parameters also became close to those of the control group. These results show that the use of ankle foot orthosis improves spastic diplegia gait functions.

보현산천문대 1.8 m 망원경 제어시스템 현황 및 개선방안 (THE STATUS AND IMPROVEMENT PLAN OF 1.8 m TELESCOPE CONTROL SYSTEM AT BOAO)

  • We analyzed the current status of the telescope control system (TCS2) of the 1.8 m telescope in Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO), and suggest a new TCS (TCS3) for the long term development of BOAO. The TCS2 was constructed in 1998 to replace the TCS1 which was installed with the telescope itself at the commencement of BOAO. One of the important parts of TCS is PMAC (Programmable Multi-Axis Controller), which is a general-purpose multi-axis motion controller. PMAC provides the direct interactive communication environment permitting users to command the controller directly with simple operations. This makes the setup, debugging, and diagnostics very easy. The TCS2 was operated stable for a long time, but the hardware and TCS computers have been deteriorated and are out of date now. The new TCS3 needs to be constructed based on a modern computer system. And functions such as pre-calculations of telescope limiting position, interworking with virtual observatory tools, and using GUI, etc should be added. Construction of the TCS3 will be a step creating a better observation environment for the Korean astronomical society.

ATM 기반 IP 패킷 포워딩 엔진을 위한 고성능 룩업 제어기 (A High PErformance Lookup Controller for ATM based IP Packet Forwarding Engine)

  • 본 논문에서는 ATM 기반 레이블 에지 라우터의 IP 패킷 포워딩 엔진을 위한 고성능 룩업 제어기를 제안하였다. 제안한 룩업 제어기는 IP 패킷에 대한 Best Effort 서비스 뿐만 아니라 MPLS(Multiprotocol Label Switching), VPN(Virtual Private Network), ELL(Emulated Leased Line), RT(Real Time) 서비스 등의 차별화된 서비스들을 제공할 수 있도록 설계하였다. 고속의 IP 주소 검색을 위하여 소프트웨어 기반의 알고리즘 방식을 사용하지 않고 TCAM(Ternary Content Addressable Memory) 기반의 하드웨어 방식을 적용하였으며, IP 패킷 헤더 처리 및 룩업 제어 기능을 고속으로 수행하기 위하여 룩업 제어 기능을 FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array)로 구현하였다. 룩업 제어기는 사용자의 차별화된 다양한 요구를 수용할 수 있으며, 성능 향상을 위하여 파이프라인 기법으로 처리되도록 설계하였다. 또한 패킷 헤더의 여러 영역을 조합한 비교키에 대한 룩업 기능을 수행하기 위하여 2단계 검색 메카니즘을 가지며, 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제안한 룩업 제어기는 약 16Mpps의 성능을 보였다.

얼굴 인식률 향상을 위한 멀티 블록 방식의 딥러닝 구조에 관한 연구 (A Study on Deep Learning Structure of Multi-Block Method for Improving Face Recognition)

  • 본 논문에서는 얼굴 인식률 향상을 위한 멀티 블록 방식의 딥러닝 구조를 제안한다. 제안하는 딥러닝의 인식 구조는 입력된 이미지의 멀티 블록화, 특징 수치 분석을 통한 멀티 블록 선정, 선정된 멀티 블록의 딥러닝 수행 등의 3가지 과정으로 구성된다. 첫 번째로 입력된 이미지의 멀티 블록화는 입력된 이미지를 4등분하여 멀티 블록화 시킨다. 두 번째로 특징 수치분석을 통한 멀티 블록 선정에서는 4등분된 멀티 블록들의 특징 수치를 확인하고 특징이 많이 부각되는 블록만을 선정하여 얼굴 인식에 방해가 되는 요소를 사전에 제거한 블록들을 선정한다. 세 번째로 선정된 멀티 블록으로 딥러닝 수행은 선정된 멀티 블록 부위가 학습되어진 딥러닝 모델에 인식을 수행하여 특징 수치가 높은 효율적인 블록으로 얼굴 인식의 결과를 도출한다. 제안된 딥러닝 구조의 성능을 평가하기 위하여 CAS-PEAL 얼굴 데이터베이스를 사용하여 실험 하였다. 실험 결과, 제안하는 멀티 블록 방식의 딥러닝 구조가 기존의 딥러닝 구조보다 평균 약 2.3% 향상된 얼굴 인식률을 나타내어 그 효용성이 입증됨을 확인하였다.

감각통합치료가 뇌성마비 아동의 감각.운동발달 및 적응행동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Sensory Integration Therapy on Sensory. Motor Development and Adaptive Behavior of Cerebral Palsy Children)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sensory integration therapy (SIT) on sensory' motor development and adaptive behavior of cerebral palsy children. The design of this study was quasi experiments with a non-equivalent pre- and post-test control design. Subjects of the study were arbitrarily chosen based on predetermined selection criteria among the cerebral palsy children who were treated as out-patients at two rehabilitation hospitals one in Seoul, and the other in Kyunggi-do. The study was conducted between early April and late July in 2000. Fifteen children were in the experimental group and eleven in the control group. The allocation was done based on ease of experimental treatment. A five-step SIT program was devised from a combination of SIT programs suggested by Ayres(1985) and Finks(1989), and an author-designed SIT program for cerebral palsy children. The experimental group was subjected to 20 to 30 minutes of SIT per session. two sessions a week for ten -week period. The effects of SIT were measured with respect to 9 sub-areas that can be administered to cerebral palsy children out of a total of 17 sub-areas in the Southern California Sensory Integration Test (SCSIT) developed by Ayres (1980). In addition. the scale developed by Russell (1993) for Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM). and Perception Motor Development Test developed by 中司利一 et al.(1987) were also applied. Adaptive behavior was analyzed using guidelines in two unpublished documents - School-Age Checklist for Occupational Therapy by the Wakefield Occupational Therapy Associates, and the OTA-Watertown Clinical Assessment by the Watertown Occupational Therapy Associates-, and an author-developed Adaptive Behavior Checklist. Collected data were statistically analyzed by SPSS PC for chi square test, Mann-Whitney test, Wilcoxon signed rank test, and paired t-test. The results were as follows: 1. In sensory development, the experimental group exhibited a score increase compared to the control group, but the difference was not statistically significant, Although the experimental group showed improvements in all. 9 sub-areas compared to the control group, only right-left discrimination exhibited statistically significant change. 2. In gross motor development, the experimental group showed improvements in score compared to the control group, but it was not statistically significant. In fine motor development, the experimental group exhibited statistically significant improvements compared to the control group. In sub-area analysis, figure synthesis showed positive change. 3. In adaptive behavior development, post-experimental adaptive behavior scores were higher compared to pre-experimental scores with statistical significance. Furthermore, sub-areas emotional behavior, perception behavior, gross-fine motor function, oral-respiration function, motor behavior, motor planning, and adaptive response exhibited higher scores after SIT. In conclusion SIT was found to be partially effective in sensory and fine motor development, effective in all adaptive behavior areas, and not effective in gross motor development. Thus, this study has shown that SIT is an effective intervention for sensory development, fine motor development, and adaptive behavior for cerebral palsy children. But, for the effectiveness of SIT on gross motor development, further studies employing longer-time experiments are recommended.

기준점 관리를 위한 온톨로지 모델링과 적용 방안 (Ontology Modeling and Its Application for Managing Control Points)

  • 정확한 지리위치 좌표를 나타내는 기준점은 국가의 중요한 자산으로써 전국토의 측량과 기타 측량 사업에 사용되고 있다. 유비쿼터스 기술의 발전으로 위치정보는 우리 생활에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 현재 RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification)와 같은 유비쿼터스 기술을 기준점 관리 시스템에 융합함으로써 관리의 효율성을 제고하기 위해 여러 분야에서 연구가 진행되고 있다. 그러나 기존의 연구에서는 데이터 관점에서 기준점 관리를 위한 호환성과 효율적인 검색에 대한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 온톨로지 기술을 사용하여 기준점 데이터를 효율적으로 검색하기 위한 데이터 모델링을 구축하고 그의 적용 방안에 초점을 두어 연구한다. 제안된 온톨로지 기반의 검색 시스템은 계층적 검색으로 사용자의 반복된 검색 수행을 줄일 수 있고, 연관 검색으로 검색 시간을 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있다. 또한, 사용자 인터페이스와 관련된 소스 코드를 수정하지 않고 카테고리와 속성의 항목을 편집할 수 있는 효과적인 검색 시스템 구축 방법을 제안한다.

PFC 컨버터와 DTC를 이용한 BLDC 모터의 구동 시스템 구현 (Implementation of the BLDC Motor Drive System using PFC converter and DTC)

  • 본 논문에서는 일정 토크영역에서 승압형 PFC 컨버터와 직접토크제어(DTC) 방법을 사용하여 BLDC 모터의 구동 시스템을 DSP(TMS320F2812)로 구현하였다. 기존의 6단계 PWM 전류제어와 달리 미리 정한 샘플시간 마다 간단한 look-up 표로부터 2상 도통 모드에 대한 인버터의 전압 상태 벡터를 설정함으로써 원하는 전류파형을 만들었으며 이로부터 기존의 전류제어기보다 훨씬 빠른 토크 응답특성을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 BLDC 모터의 비 이상적인 사다리형 역기전력에 의해 발생되는 저주파 토크변동을 저감하기 위하여 위치 loop-up 표를 사용하였다. 아울러 역률을 보정하기 위해 승압형 PFC 컨버터를 구성하였고 이 때 전파 정류된 입력전압과 출력전압, 인덕터의 전류에 의해 평균전류모드 제어 방식으로 80 kHz마다 PWM 듀티(duty)가 조절 되도록 하였다. 이와 같이 복잡한 제어 알고리즘은 초고속 DSP의 출현으로 PFC와 DTC 알고리즘이 동시에 제어가 가능하며, 본 논문에서는 DTC 알고리즘을 구현할 때 DSP의 일반 범용의 출력포트를 사용하여 구현하였고 단지 PFC에서만 1개의 PWM을 사용하여 디지털 제어기를 구현하였다. 실험을 통해 DTC 알고리즘과 PFC 컨버터를 이용한 BLDC 모터 구동 시스템의 타당성과 효용성을 보였고, 실험결과로부터 PFC 컨버터를 사용하지 않았을 때는 역률이 약 0.77이었으나 PFC 컨버터를 사용하였을 때는 부하변동에 관계없이 약 0.9997로 크게 향상됨을 확인하였다.
