  • The conventional K-means algorithm is widely used in vector quantizer design and clustering analysis. Recently modified K-means algorithm has been proposed where the codevector updating step is as fallows: new codevector = current codevector + scale factor (new centroid - current codevector). This algorithm uses a fixed value for the scale factor. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for the enhancement of learning time in fuzzy c-means a1gorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method produces codebooks about 5 to 6 times faster than the conventional K-means algorithm with almost the same Performance.

  • For power system protection, the distance relay settings are important. Apparent factor is a necessary parameter in distance relay settings. Apparent factors have to be calculated when setting the distance relays and doing the resetting in case of configuration change in power system. The problem is that the current method to calculate apparent factor requires tools and plenty of time to do fault analysis and this method is complex especially in case of configuration change. Therefore this paper proposes a fast algorithm to calculate apparent factor without the fault analysis. Test results prove that this algorithm is simple and accurate by simulation.

  • The Age-adjusted effective Modulus Method(AEMM) is one of the methods adopted for the construction stage analysis of concrete structures. The AEMM uses the aging factor to consider the effects of the varying concrete stress. In the aspects of computation time and the accuracy of the results, the AEMM is considered as one of most appropriate methods for construction stage analysis of tall building structures. Previous researches proposed appropriate values of the aging factor in the forms of graphs or using very simple equations. In this paper, an equation for estimating the aging factor as a function of rebar ratio in the section, compressive strength of concrete, notional member dimension, and age of concrete at the load application. The validity of aging factor proposed in this paper were examined by the comparison with the results of step-by step method.

  • The event study analyzes returns around event date at a time. Event study provides estimation periods and cumulative returns. Stock split announcements are generally associated with positive abnormal returns. It is important to investigate the responses of stocks to new information contained in the announcements of stock splits. So It is important to study the long term performance in the case of Stock Split. This Study forced to two approach method in evaluating the performance, the event time portfolio approach and calendar time portfolio approach. The event time portfolio approach exists the CAR model, BHAR model and WR model. And the calendar time portfolio approach has the 3 factor model, 4 factor model, CTAR model, and RATS model.

  • A density-based outlier detection such as an LOF (Local Outlier Factor) tries to find an outlying observation by using density of its surrounding space. In spite of several advantages of a density-based outlier detection method, the computational complexity of outlier detection has been one of major barriers in its application. In this paper, we present an LOF algorithm that can reduce computation time of a density based outlier detection algorithm. A kd-tree indexing and approximated k-nearest neighbor search algorithm (ANN) are adopted in the proposed method. A set of experiments was conducted to examine performance of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the proposed method can effectively detect local outliers in reduced computation time.

  • To evaluate seismic performance of reinforced concrete piers two procedures for capacity spectrum method are presented. The capacity spectrum procedures include the reduction factor-ductility-period($R_{\mu}-{\mu}-T$)relationship in order to construct the inelastic demand spectra from the elastic demand spectra. Application of the procedures are illustrated by example analysis. Maximum displacements estimated by the procedures are compared to those by inelastic time history analysis for several artificial earthquakes. The results show that the maximum displacements estimated by the procedures are, on overall, smaller than those by the inelastic time history analysis.

  • In this paper, an inverted-pendulum model consisting of a point supported by spring limbs with roller feet is adopted to simulate human walking load. To establish the kinematic motion of first and second single and double support phases, the Lagrangian variation method was used. Given a set of model parameters, desired walking speed and initial states, the Newmark-${\beta}$ method was used to solve the above kinematic motion for studying the effects of roller radius, stiffness, impact angle, walking speed, and step length on the ground reaction force, energy transfer, and height of center of mass transfer. The numerical simulation results show that the inverted-pendulum model for walking is conservative as there is no change in total energy and the duration time of double support phase is 50-70% of total time. Based on the numerical analysis, a dynamic load factor ${\alpha}_{wi}$ is proposed for the traditional walking load model.

  • One of the promising optical daylighting systems is light shelf type daylighting system, Two types of lighting performance analysis methods are 1) Ray-Tracing method and 2) Radiosity method. The purpose of this paper is to compare two methods in terms of advantages and disadvantages by further looking at the detail algorithm. Also. model verification with Lightscape simulations has been conducted. Effectiveness of light penetration factor in terms of daylighting factor has been investigated and quantified. In summer time. the performance of the light shelf was twice better than the case without it.

  • Gas-assisted injection molding (GAIM) process is reducing the injection pressure during mold filling required as well as the shrinkage and warpage of the part and cycle time. Despite of these advantages, this process introduces new parameters and makes the application more difficult because the process interacts between gas and melt during injection molding process. Important GAIM factors that involved in this process include gas penetration design, locations of gas injection points, shot size, gas injection delay time as well as common injection molding parameters, gas pressure and gas injection time. In this study, the experiments were conducted to investigate effects of GAIM process variables on the gas penetration for PP and ABS moldings by changing gas injection point. Taguchi method was used fer the design of experiment. When the gas was injected at cavity's center, the most effective factor was shot size. When the gas was injected at cavity's end, the most effective factor was melt temperature. Injection speed was also an effective factor in GAIM process.

  • Passwords are a common method of identifying and authenticating a user who wishes to log on to a secure system. Password-based authentication techniques, however, do not provide strong security and recognized as being an poor form of protection. It is not all the responsibility of the user to control password and to protect its confidentiality. In this paper, confirm an appropriate response time and I propose a new and improved method of implementing two factor authentication using SMS via receiving apparatus(mobile and email).
