Reduction factor for installation damage required to calculate design strength of geogrid used in MSEW(mechanically stabilized earth wall) design is usually obtained in the field test simulating real construction condition. However, damages occurred in geogrid during backfill work are influenced by many factors such as polymer types, unit weight per area, backfill construction method and gradation of backfill material and field test considering these factors demand lots of time and costs. In this study, factors affecting installation damage are analyzed and empirical method to evaluate reduction factor for installation damage using maximum particle size in backfill material is suggested.

As the response spectrum method generally used in the earthquake resistant design is a linear method, the nonlinear behavior of a structure is to be reflected with a specific factor. Such factors are provided in the "Design Criteria for Roadwaybridges"as response modification factors and in the Eurocode 8, Part 2 as behavior factors. In this study a 5-span steel box bridge with single column piers is selected and the behavior factor is determined. The linear time history analyses are carried out with a simple linear model, where the nonlinear behavior of piers leading to the ductile failure mechanism is considered as predetermined characteristic curves.

A new method to determine the total heat exchange factor was proposed for the prediction of billet temperature in a reheating furnace. This method employed the squared of the difference between measured and predicted temperatures as an objective function. The real billet temperature in a walking beam type reheating furnace with 19.75m of its effective length was directly measured by thermocouples. The present method was validated by showing that the predicted billet temperature was in a good agreement with the measured one.

Recently, most of information services are provided by the computer network, since the technology of computer communication is developing rapidly, and the worth of information over the network is also increasing with expensive cost. But various attacks to quietly intercept the informations is invoked with the technology of communication developed, and then most of the financial agency currently have used OTP, which is generated by a token at a number whenever a user authenticates to a server, rather than general static password for some services. A 2-Factor OTP generating method using the OTP token is mostly used by the financial agency. However, the method is vulnerable to real attacks and therefore the OTP token could be robbed and disappeared. In this paper, we propose a 3-Factor OTP way using HMAC to conquer the problems and analyze the security of the proposed scheme.

The radionuclide inventory in radioactive waste from nuclear power plants should be determined to secure the safety of final repositories. As an alternative to time-consuming, labor-intensive, and destructive radiochemical analysis, the indirect scaling factor (SF) method has been used to determine the concentrations of difficult-to-measure radionuclides. Despite its long history, the original SF methodology remains almost unchanged and now needs to be improved for advanced SF implementation. Intense public attention and interest have been strongly directed to the reliability of the procedures and data regarding repository safety since the first operation of the low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste disposal facility in Gyeongju, Korea. In this review, statistical methodologies for SF implementation are described and evaluated to achieve reasonable and advanced decision-making. The first part of this review begins with an overview of the current status of the scaling factor method and global experiences, including some specific statistical issues associated with SF implementation. In addition, this review aims to extend the applicability of SF to the characterization of large quantities of waste from the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
This study is to test the influence of stock option granting information on the firm's performance. The important issue in stock option is that agent cost is the important determinant factor for the long term performance. The agent cost arises between the manager and shareholders. So many study are concentrated in diminishing the agent cost, and develop some substitute tools to measure the agent cost. The event study about stock option analyzes returns around event date at a time. Event study provides estimation periods and cumulative returns. Announcements about stock option are generally associated with positive abnormal returns in short term period, but not showing positive effect in long term period. It is important to investigate the responses of stocks to new information contained in the announcements of stock option. Therefore it is important to study the long term performance in the case of stock option. The event time portfolio approach exists the CAR model, BHAR model and WR model. And the calendar time portfolio approach has the 3 factor model, 4 factor model, CTAR model, and RATS model. This study is forced to develop and arrange two approach method in evaluating the performance, the event time portfolio approach and calendar time portfolio approach.

This paper targets a direct and quantitative prediction of characteristics of unstable waves in a combustion chamber, which employs the governing equations derived in terms of amplification factors of flow variables. A freshly formulated nonlinear acoustic equation is obtained and the analysis of unsteady waves in a rocket engine is attempted. In the present formalism, perturbation method decomposes the variables into time-averaged part that can be obtained easily and accurately and time-varying part which is assumed to be harmonic. Excluding the use of conventional spatially sinusoidal eigenfunctions, a direct numerical solution of wave equation replaces the initial spatial distribution of standing waves and forms the nonlinear space-averaged terms. Amplification factor is also calculated independently by the time rate of changes of fluctuating variables, and is no longer an explicit function for compulsory representation. Employing only the numerical computation, major assumptions inevitably inherent, and in erroneous manner, in up to date analytical methods could be avoided. With two definitions of amplification factor, 1-D stable wave and 3-D unstable wave are examined, and clearly demonstrated the potentiality of a suggested theoretical-numerical method of combustion instability.
Water vapor in the atmosphere is an influential factor of the hydrosphere cycle, which exchanges heat through phase change and is essential to precipitation. Because of its significance in altering weather, the estimation of water vapor amount and distribution is crucial to determine the precision of the weather forecasting and the understanding of regional/local climate. It is shown that it is reliable to measure precipitable water (PW) using long baseline (500-2000km) GPS observations. However, it becomes infeasible to derive absolute PW from GPS observations in Taiwan due to geometric limitation of relatively short-baseline network. In this study, a method of deriving Near-Real-Time PW from short baseline GPS observations is proposed. This method uses a reference station to derive a regression model for wet delay, and to interpolate the difference of wet delay among stations. Then, the precipitable water is obtained by using a conversion factor derived from radiosondes. The method has been tested by using the reference station located on Mt. Ho-Hwan with eleven stations around Taiwan. The result indicates that short baseline GPS observations can be used to precisely estimate the precipitable water in near-real-time.
The overlap-add technique based on waveform similarity (WSOLA) method is known to be an efficient high-quality algorithm for time scaling of speech signal. The computational load of WSOLA is concentrated on the repeated normalized cross-correlation (NCC) calculation to evaluate the similarity between two signal waveforms. To reduce the computational complexity of WSOLA, this paper proposes a fast NCC computation method, in which NCC is obtained through pre-calculated sum tables to eliminate redundancy of repeated NCC calculations in the adjacent regions. While the denominator part of NCC has much redundancy irrespective of the time-scale factor, the numerator part of NCC has less redundancy and the amount of redundancy is dependent on both the time-scale factor and optimal shift value, thereby requiring more sophisticated algorithm for fast computation. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces about 40%, 47% and 52% of the WSOLA execution time for the time-scale compression, 2 and 3 times time-scale expansions, respectively, while maintaining exactly the same speech quality of the conventional WSOLA.
The explicit and implicit time integration methods are applied effectively to analyze sheet metal stamping processes, which include the forming stage and the springback stage consecutively. The explicit time integration method has better merits in the forming stage including highly complicated three-dimensional contact conditions. By contrary, the implicit time integration method is better for analyzing springback since the complicated contact conditions are removed and the computing time to get the final static state is short. In this work, brief descriptions of the formulation and the factor study for springack simulations are presented. Further, the simulated results for the S-rail and the roof panel stamping processes are shown and discussed.
