  • For the design and maintenance of highways and road structures, the statistical data are needed for the vehicle, especially heavy truck crossing. So far, static weighing has been used but it needs fixed station, crews, and it takes a lot of time. Also truck mix and headway distances cannot be obtained. Weigh-In-Motion system uses the sensor as a weighing scale and collects the axle weights, axle distances, vehicle types and etc. without stopping or slowing down the vehicle. Objectives of the study is make a determination of WIM Sensor for Implementation of U-Overloaded Vehicle Regulation System.

  • The purpose on this study is to optimize the chromatographic determination method of trace aldehydes in ambient air. Carbonyl compounds in urban air were trapped at $C_{18}$ DNPH-coated cartridges, and generated hydrazone derivatives were separated by HPLC and detected by UV-vis spectroscopic detector at 360nm. Formaldehyde and acetaldehyde compounds could be isolated from urban(Seoul) air with more than 95% collection efficiency. The analytical detection limits for formaldehyde and acetaldehyde are 0.06pp $b_{v}$, 0.08pp $b_{v}$ for 108 L air samples, respectively. The precision of this method are 3 .sim. 4%(RSD) for mutiple injection of hydrazone standards. Separation of seven dinitrophenylhydrazones could be achieved in appoximately 20 minutes operation time using $C_{18}$ column with apprepriate eluent. The method was applied to the analysis of aldehydes and ketone in Seoul ambient air. The 24-h ambient levels of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde reached up to 6 .sim. 14 and 3 .sim. 8ppbv, respectively. The daily average concentration ratio were 0.60 for acetaldehyde/formaldehyde.yde.

  • The ceramic forming materials are getting more important recently since they are used widely in repairing metal structures, welded metal structures and mechanical components etc. The determination of elastic constants for ceramic coating materials takes much time and efforts in experiment due to the brittleness of ceramic material itself. The aim of this research is to determine the Young's Modulus for ceramic metal coating material. In order to achieve the goal, the hybrid method which uses impulse hammer technique for experimental method and modal analysis of finite element method for computational method was used. The results show good agreement with existing experimental data on Young's Modulus.

  • There were various study about an early compressive strength of concrete. But, they had a problems-likes accuracy and spending too much necessary time. The purpose of this study is develope method that suitable for each field proportioning. The result of this study are as follows : 1) The standard deviation between flyash added concrete's accelerated strength and it's standard compressive strength is follows, 10% in accelerated strength, 4.5% in 28-days strength, 10% in accelerated strength of S/A changed concrete, 2.3% in 28-days strength. 2) When flyash added into concrete, coefficient of determination between accelerated strength and 7-days strength is 0.63%, 0.89 between accelerated strength and 28-days strength. When S/A is changed, coefficient of determination is 0.77, 0.91.

  • The accurate prediction of leakage flow through the brush element of brush seal at the steam turbine is important to find optimum design parameters for increasing an efficiency. In this study, CFD analysis method using commercial software FLUENT is proposed to predict leakage through the brush element. Since the brush element has a complex three-dimensional shape with many bristle assemblies, it is difficult to analyze the flow field. Therefore, if the brush element is assumed to be porous medium region, the analysis time can be shortened. Two determination methods of resistance coefficients of the Darcian porous medium equation are suggested. By comparing the 2D and 3D CFD analysis results for the leakage of the brush element using the two resistance coefficient determination methods, the effectiveness of the analysis for the porous medium assumption is proved.

  • It is essential to carry out appropriate site investigations for the accurate prediction of the geo-structure. However, the importance of the site investigation is often overlooked due to the time and expense constraints. In this study, several cases of geotechnical design perfromed in United States are introduced with the lessons about how the site investigations are planned, performed and applied for the actual design parameter determination. Based on the case studies presented herein, experienced geotechnical engineer should participate in site investigations from the planning stage through the final boring logs and utilize all the laboratory and field tests to have consistent input parameters for the soil constitutive models. Furthermore, it is also desired to have close relationship between construction industry and the academia to compensate their needs.

  • A design of CPS attitude determination system is described in this paper. The designed system is a low cost high precision 24 channel single frequency GPS(Global Positioning System) receiver which provides a precise absolute heading and pitch (or roll) as well as a position. It uses commercial chip-set and consists of two RF parts, two signal-tracking parts, a processor, memory parts and I/Os. In order to determine precise attitude, accurate carrier phase measurements and an efficient integer ambiguity resolution method are required. To meet these requirements, a PLL (Phase Locked Loops) is designed, and an algorithm called ARCE (Ambiguity Resolution with Constraint Equation) is adopted. The hardware and software structure of the system will be described, and the performance evaluated under various conditions will be presented. The test results will promise that more reliable navigation system be possible because the system provides all navigational information such as position, velocity, time and attitude.

  • Achieving white balance is one of the key issues for LCD image quality enhancement. A well-known color correction algorithm is Accurate Color Capture (ACC). Determination of ACC correction values has been time consuming as past methods have required trial-and-error analysis of differences between predicted and measured values. We propose a new ACC value determination method that uses spatially emulated patterns and measured values on patterns.

  • This paper presents a time-based Pitch Determination Algorithm (PDA) for the reliable estimation of Pitch Period (PP) in speech signals. Based on the Dyadic Wavelet Transform (DyWT) , the proposed PDA detects the presence of Glottal Closure Instants (GCI) and uses the information to determine the pitch period. We also examine the problem of conventional PDAs based on DyWT; their performance is compared with the proposition of this paper. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested with real speech signals containing a transition between the voiced and the unvoiced interval where the energy of the voiced signal is unsteady. The result shows that the proposed method provides good performance in estimating both the unsteady GCI positions as well as the steady parts.

  • This paper presents a time-based Pitch Determination Algorithm (PDA) for reliable estimation of pitch Period (PP) in speech signal. In proposed method, we use the Dyadic Wavelet Transform (DyWT), which detects the presence of Glottal Closure Instants (GCI) and uses the information to determine the pitch period. And, the proposed method also uses the periodicity property of DyWT to detect unsteady GCI. To evaluate the performance of the proposed methods, that of other PDAs based on DyWT are compared with what this paper proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested with real speech signals containing a transition between voiced and the unvoiced interval where the energy of voiced signal is unsteady. The result shows that the proposed method provides a good performance in estimating the both the unsteady GCI positions as well as the steady parts.
