Wireless mobile communication systems in subway tunnels have been widely researched these years, due to increased demand for the communication applications. As a result, an accurate model is essential to effectively evaluate the communication system performance. Thus, a neoteric three-dimensional (3D) geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) is proposed for the massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels in tunnel environment. Furthermore, the statistical properties of the channel such as space-time correlation, amplitude and phase probability density are analyzed and compared with those of the traditional two-dimensional (2D) model by numerical simulations. Finally, the ergodic capacity is investigated based on the proposed model. Numerical results show that the proposed model can describe the channel in tunnels more practically.

It is well known that Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) systems offer the promise of achieving very high spectrum efficiencies (many tens of bit/s/Hz) in a mobile environment. The gains in MIMO capacity are sensitive to the presence of spatial and temporal correlation introduced by the radio environment. In this paper, we examine how MIMO capacity is influenced by a number of factors e.g., a) temporal correlation b) various combinations of low/high spatial correlations at either end, c) combined spatial and temporal correlations. In all cases, we compare the channel capacity that would be achievable under independent fading. We investigate the behaviour of "capacity fades," examine how often the capacity experiences the fades, develop a method to determine level crossing rates and average fade durations and relate these to antenna numbers. We also evaluate the influence of channel correlation on the capacity autocorrelation and assess the fit of a Gaussian random process to the temporal capacity sequence. Finally we note that the particular spatial correlation structure of the MIMO channel is influenced by a large number of factors. For simplicity, it is desirable to use a single overall correlation measure which parameterizes the effect of correlation on capacity. We verify this single parameter concept by simulating a large number of different spatially correlated channels.

We propose a very low complexity lattice reduction (LR) algorithm for MIMO detection in time varying channels. The proposed scheme reduces the complexity by performing LR in a block-wise manner. The proposed scheme takes advantage of the temporal correlation of the channel matrices in a block and its impact on the unimodular matrices during LR process. From this, the proposed scheme can skip a number of redundant LR processes for consecutive channel matrices and performs a single LR in a block. The simulation results investigated in this letter reveal that the proposed detection scheme requires only 43.4% multiplications and 17.3% divisions of LLL-LR and only 50.2% multiplications and 68.2% divisions of the conventional adaptive LR with almost no performance degradation.
In this paper, selection criterions on selection diversity are researched. The diversity is applied to the multiple antenna system based on wireless access in vehicular environment (WAVE) standard for rapid varying channel. Least squares (LS) based decision feedback equalizer (DFE) are used for channel equalization. Received signal is regenerated by means of the decision feedback path. In the selection diversity, the regenerated signal as well as the received signal is selected according to selection criterion. The decision feedback algorithm can follow the fast speed of WAVE fading channel. To control the tracking speed of the time-varying channel, simple low pass filter is used. Finally, the estimated channel value recovers the distorted payloads. Signal power before automatic gain control (AGC) in analog stage can be used as a selection criterion. In the digital stage, signal power after AGC, noise power after AGC, signal to noise ratio after AGC and cross-correlation method can be used as selection criterions. According to the simulation results, the performance of the selection diversity is improved in comparison with that of the combining diversity for the WAVE fading channel.

High-data rate and high speed communication techniques are required for wireless mobile communication systems to provide multimedia services. A multiple antenna technology may be used to meet this demand. In this paper, a method for performance improvement of a WCDMA downlink system using space time block coding is proposed in quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed receiver uses the cross correlation matrix obtained by each finger corresponding to multi paths. To obtain maximum diversity gain, the inverse of cross correlation matrix and the Hermitian matrix of the channel matrix for each path arc computed, and then applied to received signals. Various simulation results show that the proposed receiver outperforms a conventional receiver in Rayleigh fading channels.

We perform an analysis of the characteristics of the time-reversal pulse in Rayleigh or Ricean fading channel environments. We verify it by using Monte Carlo simulation. In a time-reversal system, each antenna in the time-reversal array receives signals from the transmitter and reverse the received signal in the time axis and then resend it to the original transmitter. We assume that the channel characteristics varies very slowly and the spatial separation between the antennas is not large. Hence the signals received by each antenna are correlated. In this paper, the effect of the correlation on the time-reversed pulse is examined, which includes the spatial properties of the time-reversal pulse such as the focus size, and spatial power distribution.
In this paper, the performance of DS-CDMA system with smart antenna is analyzed for different bandwidths (1.25MHz, 5MHz) and different channel environments (rural, urban). For the analysis of smart antenna system, the vector channel model having the spatio-temporal correlation is needed. Hence, the channel is modeled as a time-variant linear filter in time, and each multipath is assumed as a reflective wave from only one direction (only one cluster) in space. A simulation is carried out by dividing several multipaths within one chip into each one and searching the strongest signal. DS-CDMA system with smart antenna using wider bandwidth present better performance than that using narrow bandwidth. It is shown that the smart antenna is more effective in urban area when using 2D-RAKE receiver.

In this research, we study the outage probability for distributed space-time coding-based cooperative (DSTC) systems with amplify-and-forward relaying over Rayleigh fading channels with a high temporal correlation where the direct link between the source and the destination is available. In particular, we derive the upper and lower bounds of the outage probability as well as their corresponding asymptotic expressions. In addition, using only the average channel powers for the source-to-relay and relay-to-destination links, we propose an efficient power allocation scheme between the source and the relay to minimize the asymptotic upper bound of the outage probability. Through a numerical investigation, we verify the analytical expressions as well as the effectiveness of the proposed efficient power allocation. The numerical results show that the lower and upper bounds tightly correspond to the exact outage probability, and the proposed efficient power allocation scheme provides an outage probability similar to that of the optimal power allocation scheme that minimizes the exact outage probability.

One of good DF(Direction Finding) methods is based on TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival) estimation when finding underwater moving target. For small DF error, high time resolution A/D(Analog-to-digital) conversion board and long baseline are needed. But the result of sea trial about close-range and high speed moving target, spatial correlation coefficient and appeared poor properties below 0.3 when hydrophone arrangement are separated over 6 ${\lambda}$ because of underwater fading channel. And we also find out that the distance between hydrophone should be under 4 ${\lambda}$ apart to take advantage of spatial correlation coefficient gain and performance of DF in underwater moving channel environments.

A forward error correction (FEC) coding techniques is one of time diversity techniques with which the effect of channel impairments due to noise and fading are spreaded over independently, and thus the performance could be improved. Therefore, the performance of the FEC scheme can be maximized if we minimize the correlation of channel information across over a codeword. In this paper, we propose a block turbo code with the maximized time diversity effect which may be reduced due to utilization of high order modulation schemes and due to transmission over a comparatively fast fading environment. Especially, we propose a very simple formula to calculate the address of coded bit allocation, and thus we do not need any additional outer interleavers, i.e., inter-codeword interleavers. The simulation resuts investigated in this paper reveal that the proposed scheme can provide the performance gain of more than a few decibels compared to the conventional schemes.
