  • Femtocells are good examples of the ultimate networking technology, offering enhanced indoor coverage and higher data rate. However, the dense deployment of femto base stations (FBSs) and the exploitation of subcarrier reuse between macrocell base stations and FBSs result in significant co-tier and cross-tier interference, thus degrading system performance. Therefore, appropriate resource allocations are required to mitigate the interference. This paper proposes a discrete bacterial foraging optimization (DBFO) algorithm to find the optimal resource allocation in two-tier networks. The simulation results showed that DBFO outperforms the random-resource allocation and discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) considering the small number of steps taken by particles and bacteria.

  • This research was conducted to design and develop a wired monitoring system for judging if sick or dead layers (SDL) exist in multi-tier layers battery (MLB) by machine vision, and to analyze its performance. In this study, 20 Brown Leghorn (Hi-Brown) layers aged 37 weeks old, were used as the experimental animals. The intensity of concern paid by layers on feed was over 90% during 5 minutes and 30 seconds after providing feed, and normal layers (NL) had been standing to take feed for that period. Therefore, in this study, the optimal judging time was set by this test result. The wired monitoring system developed was consisted of a driving device for carrying machine vision systems, a control program, a RS232 to RS485 convertor, an automatic positioning system, and an image capture system. An image processing algorithm was developed to find SDL in MLB by the processes of binary processing, erosion, expansion, labeling, and reckoning central coordinate of the captured images. The optimal velocity for driving unit was set up as 0.13 m/s by the test results for wired monitoring system, and the proximity switch was controlled not to be operated for 1.0 second after first image captured. The wired monitoring system developed was tested to evaluate the remote monitoring performance at lab-scale laying hen house. Results showed that its judgement success.ate on normal cage (without SDL) was 87% and that on abnormal cage (with SDL) was 90%, respectively. Therefore, it would be concluded that the wired monitoring system developed in this study was well suited to the purpose of this study.

  • In recent years, development of femtocells are receiving considerable attention towards increasing the network coverage, capacity, and improvement in the quality of service for users. In 3GPP LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) system, to efficiently utilize the bandwidth, femtocell and macro cell uses the same frequency band, but this deployment poses a technical challenge of cross-tier interference to macro users. In this paper, the novel quality of service based fractional power control (QoS-FPC) scheme under the heterogeneous networks environment is proposed, which considers the users priority and QoS-requirements during the power allocation. The proposed QoS-FPC scheme has two focal points: firs, it protects the macrocell users uplink communication by limiting the cross-tier interference at eNB below a given threshold, and second, it ensures the optimization of femtocell users power allocation at each power adjustment phase. Performance gain is demonstrated with extensive system-level simulations to show that the proposed QoS-FPC scheme significantly decreases the cross-tier intereference and improves the overall users throughput.

  • Objectives: The major objective of this study was to develop and validate a tier 1 exposure model utilizing worker exposure monitoring data and characteristics of worker activities routinely performed at construction sites, in order to estimate worker exposures without sampling. Methods: The Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals(REACH) system of the European Union(EU) allows the usage of exposure models for anticipating chemical exposure of manufacturing workers and consumers. Several exposure models have been developed such as Advanced REACH Tools(ART). The ART model is based on structured subjective assessment model. Using the same framework, a tier 1 exposure model has been developed. Worker activities at construction sites have been analyzed and modifying factors have been assigned for each activity. Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency(KOSHA) accrued work exposure monitoring data for the last 10 years, which were retrieved and converted into exposure scores. A separate set of sampling data were collected to validate the developed exposure model. These algorithm have been realized on Excel spreadsheet for convenience and easy access. Results: The correlation coefficient of the developed model between exposure scores and monitoring data was 0.36, which is smaller than those of EU models(0.6~0.7). One of the main reasons explaining the discrepancy is poor description on worker activities in KOSHA database. Conclusions: The developed tier 1 exposure model can help industrial hygienists judge whether or not air sampling is required or not.

  • This paper presents the implementation of a EBCOT TIER-1 for JPEG2000 Encoder. JPEG2000 is new standard for the compression of still image for overcome the artifact of JPEG. JPEG2000 standard is based on DWT(Discrete Wavelet Transform) and EBCOT Entropy coding technology. EBCOT(Embedded block coding with optimized truncation) is the most important technology that is compressed the image data in the JPEG2000. However, EBCOT has the artifact because the operations are bit-level processing and occupy the harf of the computation time of JPEG2000 Compression. Therefore, in this paper, we present modified context extraction method for enhance EBCOT computational efficiency and implemented MQ- Coder as arithmetic coder. The proposed system is implemented by Verilog-HDL, under the condition of TSMC 0.25um ASIC library, gate counts are 30,511EA and satisfied the 50MHz operating condition.

  • Recently, decarbonization has been emphasized worldwide to cope with climate change, and carbon neutrality by 2050 has emerged as a global agenda. The domestic port authorities have been participating in the global agenda in line with the government regulations. Since 2010, when decarbonization has been regarded as an important assignment in ports, container terminal efficiency considering undesirable outputs such as Carbon dioxide has been analyzed. However, most previous studies measured carbon dioxide emissions according to the Tier 1 and it is a first time to analyze container terminal efficiency based on the Tier 3 presented in the IPCC guidelines. 17 domestic container terminal operators were considered as decision making units and DEA-SBM Model was used. Subsequently, Undesirable outputs model was conducted to calculate the environmental efficiency.

In line with government regulations, domestic port authorities have also started participating in this global agenda. Since 2010, when decarbonization became an important task in ports, there have been studies analyzing the environmental efficiency of container terminals, taking into account undesirable outputs. The study considered 17 container terminal operators in South Korea as decision-making units and used the DEA-SBM Model. • Since 1990s, we have achieved a certain level of success in standardization of design, construction, and material on housing and public buildings with the national-level promotion. A practical connecting device that can synthesize all the serial processes is required to maximize the effect of construction material standardization. However, desired outcome of the standardization is not achieved yet because these serial standards and notification practices are decided by each part of the process and some are congested. In this study, we aim to improve a general organizational system of Korean Industrial Standard (KS) which is the most fundamental tool for the standardization of construction materials moving from a conventional idea that the standard is only for the material and components producers to a concept that can also be shared by the designers and construction workers. To achieve this, we propose an improvement plan for the Korean Industrial Standard in the perspective of three-tier classification system.

  • Corbicula japonica, belonging to Other Veneroida Family Corbiculidae, was distributed in the freshwater and brackish rivers, where was a sandy and shallow depth. Catch of C. japonica in the Seomjin River occupied at a large portion of the catch in Kyungnam Province, which was about 30% of total catch in Korea. C. japonica has little studied on biomass, scientific resources assessment and management, because of inaccurate catch report data in the Seojin River. In this study, we conducted scientific and systematic approaches under data limited situation with application of the potential fishery yield system for sustainable fisheries resources management. Estimation system of the potential fishery yield was consisted of 5 tier system. We have used to tier 1 and 2 which were demanded higher level of information than the other tiers. The potential fishery yields were estimated 77.66ton for tier 1 using commercial fishery-dependent data, and 129.82ton for tier 2 with fishery-independent survey data.
