TiB$_2$-Fe 서메트의 소결성 및 기계적성질에 미치는 Mo첨가의 영향 (Effect of Mo Addition on the Sinterability and Mechanical Properties of TiB$_2$-Fe Cermets)

  • Fe and Fe-Mo binder were used to produce TiB2 based cermet by a pressureless sintering. The densification behaviour of TiB2-Fe-Mo cermet during liquid-phase sintering in argon was studied in relation to binder phase charactertics. The effects of Mo addition and sintering condition on the sintering behaviour and mechanical properties were also investigated. TiB2-based cermets with Fe-Mo binder composition showed a better sinterability than the cermets with only Fe binder. In TiB2-Fe-Mo cermet higher densities in the wide temperature range were obtained and also fully densified sintered cermet were obtained at 1873K The enhancement in the densification phenomenon of TiB2-Fe-Mo system can be explained by improved liquid phase wettability associated with the roles of Mo components as solute atoms. When Fe-Mo binders were used cermets with a finer grain size and enhanced mechanical properties wereproduced and new phases such as Fe2B and Mo2FeB2 were observed in the sintered cermet. The highest bending strength was obtained from the 20vol% Fe-Mo cermet and these hardness-fracture toughness combination in the wide binder compositions is better than that of TiB2-Fe cermet. In order to improve mechanical properties microstructure control with high purity powders is desirable because high purity powders prevent the formation of Fe2B and Mo2FeB2 phase which comsume the ductile binder phase.

$NdFe_{10.7}TiB_{0.3}N_x$$NdFe_{10.7}TiMo_{0.3}N_x$의 자기특성 (Magnetic Properties of $NdFe_{10.7}TiB_{0.3}N_x$ and $NdFe_{10.7}TiMo_{0.3}N_x$)

  • $ThMN_{12}$ 구조를 갖는 $NdFe_{11}TiN_x$ 형 화합물에서 B 이 자화 및 큐리온도의 상승에 매우 효과적임이 밝혀졌다. $NdFe_{10.7}TiB_{0.3}N_x$ 의 자화 및 큐리온도는 $NdFe_{10.7}Ti_{1.3}N_x$ 의 경우에 비하여 각각 20 $Am^2$/kg (20 emu/g) 및 $90^{\circ}C$가 높은 148 $Am^2$/kg (148 emu/g) 및 $560^{\circ}C$를 나타내었다. 한편, Mo은 이방성자장의 증가에 효과적이며, 또한, 질화처리시 ${\alpha}-Fe$의 생성 억제에 효과적인 것으로 추측된다. $NdFe_{10.7}TiMo_{0.3}N_x$ 의 이방성자장은 약 7960 kA/m (100 kOe) 로 $NdFe_{10.7}Ti_{1.3}N_x$ 의 경우에 비하여 약 1590 kA/m (20 kOe) 가 증가한 결과를 보였다.

  • 철-희토류 화합물인 Sm-Fe 이원계에서 조성식 $SmFe_{7+x}M_{x}(M=Mo,\;V,\;Ti)$ 화합물을 급속냉각기술로 제조하여 강자성을 나타내는 새로운 자성상인 ${Sm(Fe,\;M)}_{7}$을 합성하였다. Sm-Fe 이원계에 제 2의 천이원소 Mo, V 또는 Ti를 첨가함으로써, ${Sm(Fe,\;M)}_{7}$ 자성상은 큐리온도(Tc)가 $T_{c}=355^{\circ}C$에 달했으며 x=0.8과 1.0 사이에서 $SmFe_{7+x}M_{x}(M=Mo,\;V,\;Ti)$의 고유보자력 ($_{i}H_{c}$)이 3~6 kOe를 갖는 신 자성상을 제조하였다. ${Sm(Fe,\;M)}_{7}$ 상은 급냉응고 된 상태에서나 열처리 후에도 변함없이 안정하였으며 오히려 급냉상태에서 보다 우수한 강자기 특성을 보였다. ${Sm(Fe,\;M)}_{7}$은 육방정계 결정구조를 갖는 능방정계이며 P6/mmm Space Group에 속하는 것으로 판명되었다. ${Sm(Fe,\;M)}_{7}$ 자성상이 고보자력을 나타내는 원천적인 이유는 급속냉각에 의하여 결정입도가 $2000~8000\;{\AA}$의 미립자로 형성되기 때문이며, 높은 규리온도를 보이는 까닭은 급속냉각에 의해 제 2의 천이원소인 Mo, V 또는 Ti의 Fe에 대한 고용도가 평형상태에서 보다 월등히 높아져 자기변환온도를 상승하게 하였기 때문이다.

The Photocatalytic Decomposition of Different Organic Dyes under UV Irradiation with and without H2O2 on Fe-ACF/TiO2 Photocatalysts

  • The Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites were prepared by a sol-gel method and were characterized by nitrogen adsorption, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX). The Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composites were developed for the decomposition of organic dyes by using a UV lamp. The decomposition effect was investigated under various conditions, such as three selected non-biodegradable organic dyes like Methylene Blue (MB), Methyl Orange (MO), Rhodamine B (Rh.B), and in the presence of Fe and hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$). The photocatalytic activity was derived from possible combination effects, such as (1) adsorption of ACF, (2) generation of electron/hole by $TiO_2$, (3) photo-Fenton reaction of Fe, and (4) oxidation of $Fe^{2+}\;to\;Fe^{3+}\;by\;H_2O_2$.

Photodecomposition of Different Organic Dyes Using Fe-CNT/TiO2 Composites under UV and Visible Light

  • The Fe-treated CNT/$TiO_2$ photocatalysts mixed with anatase and rutile phase have been developed for the decomposition of non-biodegradable different organic dyes like methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (Rh.B), and methyl orange (MO) in two conditions as ultraviolet and visible light respectively. The results indicate that all the Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ composites proved to be more efficient photocatalysts since degradation of MB at higher reaction rates, tthe decomposition rate of different dyes increases with an increase of $Fe^{3+}$ concentration in composites the highest rate of decomposition of different dyes was noted under UV irradiation. These results can indicate that the large CNT network is facilitate the electron transfer and strongly adsorb dye molecules on the texted photocatalysts, iron is reactive in the photo-Fenton process resulting in high production of OH radicals and also high activity of the photocatalyst. And Fe particles can generate more photoinduced electrons to conduction band of $TiO_2$ under visible light irradiation. The composites of Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ photocatalysts synthesized by a sol-gel method were characterized by BET, TEM, SEM, XRD and EDX.

Blended Elemental P/M Synthesis of Titanium Alloys and Titanium Alloy-based Particulate Composites

  • Titanium alloys and Titanium alloy-based particulate composites were synthesized using the blended elemental P/M route. First, processing conditions such as the fabrication of master alloy powder were investigated. Ti-6Al-4V, Ti-5Al-2.5Fe, Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo, IMI685, IMI829, Timetal 1100 and Timetal 62S, and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo/ 10%TiB and Timetal 62S/10%TiB were then synthesized using the optimal processing conditions obtained. The microstructures and mechanical properties such as tensile strength and high cycle fatigue strength were evaluated.

  • Titanium has many special characteristics such as specific high strength, low elastic modulus, excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance, etc. Beta titanium alloys, because of their good formability and strength, are used for jet engines, and as turbine blades in the automobile and aerospace industries. Low cost beta titanium alloys were developed to take economic advantage of the use of low-cost beta stabilizers such as Mo, Fe, and Cr. Generally, adding a trace of boron leads to grain refinement in casted titanium alloys due to the pinning effect of the TiB phases. This study analyzed and evaluated the microstructural and mechanical properties after plastic deformation and heat treatment in boron-modified Ti-2Al-9.2Mo-2Fe alloy. The results indicate that a trace of boron addition made grains finer; this refinement effect was found to be maintained after subsequent processes such as hot forging and solution treatment. This can effectively reduce the number of required manufacturing process steps and lead to savings in the overall cost as well as low-cost beta elements.

Comparative analysis of TiO2, Fe2O3, CaO and CuO in borate based glasses for gamma ray shielding

  • This research intends to utilize melt-quenching technique in order to examine the radiation shielding capability of 10 % Mo, 10 % Na2O, 20 % PbO, and 60 % B2O3 glass system, with varying CaO, TiO2, CuO, Fe2O3 or Mo. XCOM and MCNP simulations were utilized to analyze the radiation shielding properties of the fabricated glasses. The results revealed CuO having the superior MAC of 49.91 cm2/g, then Fe2O3 with 49.24 cm2/g, followed by CaO with 49.10 cm2/g, and TiO2 with 48.49 cm2/g as the least. CuO and Fe2O3 were confirmed to have least HVL compared to CaO and TiO2. The value of the lead equivalent thickness showed fluctuation against the gamma energy, where it raisess within the photoelectric region and falls after the photoelectric region. The data reveal that, the lead equivalent thickness at 0.1 MeV were 7.88 cm, 7.86 cm, 7.81 cm and 7.80 cm for TiO2, Fe2O3, CaO, and CuO in the same order, respectively. The transmission factor (TF) raises as the gamma energy raises, having TiO2 as the highest with 76.068 %, while the radiation protection efficiency dropped as the energy raises.

  • 저비용과 휴대성을 고려한 알코올 경보기의 제작을 위해 동작온도가 낮고 감도가 높은 반도체 가스 센서를 제작하였다. $Fe_2O_3$에 금속 산화물인 $MoO_3$, $V_2O_5$, $TiO_2$, 그리고 CdO 등을 첨가하여 스크린 프린팅법을 이용하여 센서를 제작하였다. 센서의 전기적 안정성을 위하여 질소 분위기에서 $700^{\circ}C$, 2시간 동안 열처리를 하였다. 알코올, 탄화수소계 가스와 담배연기 등을 사용하여 센서의 가스 감도를 조사하였다. $V_2O_5$를 첨가한 센서가 알코올 가스 1,000 ppm에 대해서 약 $80{\sim}90%$의 감도를 보이며, 타 가스에 대한 선택성도 가짐을 알 수 있었다. 제작된 센서와 PIC-chip을 사용하여 휴대 가능한 경보기를 제작할 수 있었다.

Ion Exchange Separation of Minor Elements from Iron for the Analysis of S/G Sludge

  • Some minor elements(Al, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Gd, Mg, Mn, Mo, Nd, Ni, P, Pb, Si, Sn, Sr, Ti, V, Yb, Zn and Zr) in iron compounds such as the S/G sludge of a power plant were separated from iron by anionic and cationic exchange methods. If a ICP-AES or AAS determination follows this method, minor elements of more than 2 or 20 ppm of Fe can be determined with an error less than 20% except Sn and Mo. Alkaline elements were excluded from this study since they can be easily recovered from an anionic exchange. Application to real sludge samples is ongoing.
