The effect of deposition temperature/pressure on the superconducting properties of YBCO coated conductor (YBCO coated conductor의 초전도 특성에 미치는 박막 증착 온도/압력의 영향)

  • YBCO coated conductor, also called the 2nd generation high temperature superconducting wire, consists of oxide multi-layer hetero-epitaxial thin films. Pulsed laser deposition (PLD) is one of many film deposition methods used to make coated conductor, and is the one known to be the best to make superconducting layer so far. As a part of the effort to make long length coated conductor, the optimum deposition condition of YBCO film on single crystal substrate (SrTiO3) was investigated using PLD. Substrate temperature, oxygen partial pressure, and laser fluence were varied to find the best combination to grow high quality YBCO film.

Effect of an AI underlayer on the Growth of Carbon Nanotubes and Their Field Emission Characteristics (알루미늄 하부층이 탄소나노튜브의 성장 및 전계방출 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • We studied the effect of an Al underlayer on the growth of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their field emission characteristics, First of all, CNTs were grown on the Invar catalyst layers with different thickness of 1 to 10 nm, showing that the CNT length was saturated for the catalyst 5 nm or thicker. The CNTs grown on the 5-nm-thick catalyst were ${\sim}10{\mu}m$ long and ${\sim}30nm$ in diameter. Second, an Al underlayer was applied between the catalyst layer and the Ti diffusion barrier to reduce the diameters of CNTs for better field emission properties by forming spherical Al oxide particles on which smaller catalyst nanoparticles would occur. The optimal thickness of an Al underlayer underneath the 5-nm-thick catalyst was ${\sim}15nm$, producing the CNTs with the length of ${\sim}15{\mu}m$ and the diameter of ${\sim}15nm$. The field emission measurements, following the tape activation, showed that the thinner and longer CNTs gave rise to better field emission performance with the lower turn-on and threshold electric fields.

Application of Superconducting Magnetic Separation for Condenser Water Treatment in Thermal Power Plant

  • Superconducting high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) has advantages to treat wastewater because it can generate high magnetic field and achieve rapid purification. In this study superconducting HGMS was applied to remove impurities from the condenser water in thermal power plant. The condenser water contained mainly hematite and maghemite and it was highly magnetized than hematite. In the HGMS tests using a 6-T cryo-cooled Nb-Ti superconducting magnet, the turbidity of the condenser water was effectively reduced up to 99.6% and the result showed better performance than that of the 0.5-T permanent magnet test. The higher magnetic field was applied in the range of 1-6T, the more iron oxides were removed. The effect of magnetic filter configuration on the condenser water treatment was also investigated. Consequently superconducting HGMS system can be applicable to remove iron oxide impurities from condenser water in thermal power plant.

Preparation and characterization of TiO2 membrane on porous 316 L stainless steel substrate with high mechanical strength

  • In this work the preparation and characterization of a membrane containing a uniform mesoporous Titanium oxide top layer on a porous stainless steel substrate has been studied. The 316 L stainless steel substrate was prepared by powder metallurgy technique and modified by soaking-rolling and fast drying method. The mesoporous titania membrane was fabricated via the sol-gel method. Morphological studies were performed on both supported and unsupported membranes using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and field emission scanning microscope (FESEM). The membranes were also characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and $N_2$-adsorption / desorption measurement (BET analyses). It was revealed that a defect-free anatase membrane with a thickness of $1.6{\mu}m$ and 4.3 nm average pore size can be produced. In order to evaluate the performance of the supported membrane, single-gas permeation experiments were carried out at room temperature with nitrogen gas. The permeability coefficient of the fabricated membrane was $4{\times}10^{-8}\;lit\;s^{-1}\;Pa^{-1}\;cm^{-1}$.

Synthesis of Bi2WO6 Nanometer Sheet Shaped and Approach to the Photocatalysis

  • For use as a photocatalyst, bismuth tungsten oxide, $Bi_2WO_6$, was successfully synthesized by hydrothermal treatment at pH = 11 and heating at 200 ${^{\circ}C}$ for 24h, and samples were subsequently thermal treated at 400, 600, and 800 ${^{\circ}C}$ to increase crystallinity. TEM results revealed that the initial untreated particles were sheet‐shaped, grain size was below 80 nm, and it increased with treated temperatures. These $Bi_2WO_6$ samples absorbed at around 400 nm in the visible light range and the intensity of absorption was particularly strongest in samples thermal treated at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$. Their photoluminescence abilities, related to the recombination between the excited electrons and holes, were overall small for other general photocatalysts such as TiO2, and the smallest in the case of thermal treatment at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$, as reversible result of UV‐visible absorbance. Methyl orange of 5.0 ppm aqueous solution was almost completely removed after 2 h when treated over the $Bi_2WO_6$ thermal treated at 600 ${^{\circ}C}$.

Mechanochemical Synthesis of Pigment from Potash Feldspar (기계화학적 합성에 의한 합석으로부터의 안료 제조)

  • The possibility of producing the pigments from potash feldspar was studied by adopting the mechanical alloying technique under various gas environments. The experiments were carried out by varying grinding time with the addition of copper metal and titanium oxide in N₂, O₂, He, CO₂, H₂and air atmospheres. The mixture of the potash feldspar concentrate and copper and titanium dioxide are finely ground by a planetary ball mill, and then the composite powders were calcined at 1200℃ for 20 minutes. As a result, the calcined feldspar with 1 wt% of Cu has shown various colors like green in air, black in O₂, dark green in CO₂, brown in H₂, purple in He, and pale green in N₂ atmospheres, respectively.

  • All solid-state thin film supercapacitor(TFSC) based on $RuO_2$ electrode was fabricated. Ruthenium oxide$(RuO_2)$ thin film was deposited on Pt/Ti/Si subsrate by d.c. magnetron sputtering. LiPON(lithium phosphorus oxynitride) thin film were deposited by r.f. reactive sputtering. X-ray diffraction patterns of $RuO_2$ and LiPON films revealed that crystal structures of both films were amorphous. To decrease resistivity of $RuO_2$ thin film, $RuO_2$ thin film was deposited with $H_2O$ vapor. In order to decide the maximum ionic conductivity, the LiPON films were prepared by various sputtering condition. The maximum ionic conductivity was $9.5\times{10}^7S/cm$. A charge-discharge measurements showed the capacity of $3\times{10-2}\;F/cm^2-\mu{m}$ for the as-fabricated TFSC. The discharging efficiency was decreased after 500 cycles by 40 %.

전자싸이클로트론공명플라즈마 화학기상증착법에 의한 PZT 박막의 증착 및 전기적 특성 연구

  • 전자싸이클로트론공명플라즈마 화학기상증착법(ECR-PECVD)에 의한 Pt 및 $RuO_2$ 기판에서의 PZT 박막의 증착특성 및 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. $RuO_2$ 기판에서는 Pt 기판에 비하여 Pb-관련 이차상이 형성되기 쉬웠고, PZT 페로브스카이트 핵생성이 어려웠다. 하지만, $RuO_2$ 기판에서도 금속유기 원료기체의 정확한 유량조절(특히, $Pb(DPM)_2$ 유량)과 Ti-oxide 씨앗층의 도입을 통하여 $450^{\circ}C$의 비교적 낮은 증착온도에서 단일한페로브스카이트 박막 제조가 가능하였으며, $RuO_2$ 기판에서도 미세구조가 향상된 PZT 박막의 경우 $10^{-6}A/cm^2@100kV/cm$의 우수한 누설전류 특성을 나타내었다. 4 가지 전극배열의 PZT 커패시터들 중에서 $RuO_2//RuO_2$ 커패시터는 누설전류밀도가 $10^{-4}A/cm^2@100kV/cm$ 정도로 높았지만, 피로현상은 나타나지 않았다. 일방향 전계 (unipolar) 피로특성에서 나타난 polarization-shift 현상과 양방향 전계 (bipolar) 피로특성의 온도의존성 결과는 PZT 박막내 charged defect의 이동이 어려움을 나타내었다. Bipolar 신호에 의한 피로현상은 인가전계에 의한 분극반전 과정에서 Pt 계면에서 charged defect의 형성과 관련이 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 또한, 상하부 전극물질 이 다른 경우에는 상하부 계면의 charged defect 밀도에 차이가 생겨 내부전계가 형성되는 것으로 판단되었다.

Surface Treatments of Titanium Biomaterials by Anodization (양극산화법에 의한 생체적합형 티타늄 표면 개질)

  • The surface was transformed to porous titanium oxide by the anodization of pure titanium. Titanium was anodized in non-aqueous and aqueous electrolytes at different potentials between 5 V and 150 V. Various electrolytes were compose of ethylene glycerol, $H_2SO_4,\;NH_4F\;and\;H_2O$. We obtained titania nanotube arrays on the micro pore of titanium. Micro pores and nano tubes were obtained by anodization at high potentials and low potentials, respectively. Morphologies of nanotubes and micro pore were characterized by FE-SEM. The unique surface structure is very attractive to electrical and medical applications such as gas sensor, biosensor, dental implant and stent.

Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of PSS-PT-PZ Ceramics with the Addition of Dopant (불순물 첨가에 따른 PSS-PT-PZ 세라믹의 유전 및 압전특성)

  • In this paper, $0.10Pb(Sb_{1/2}Sn_{1/2})O_3-0.25PbTiO_3-0.65PbZrO_3$ ceramics were fabricated by the mixed-oxide method. The sintering temperature and time were $1230^{\circ}C$ and 2[hr], respectively. The structural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties with addition of NiO were studied. The crystal structure of a specimen was rhombohedral. As a result of SEM, the average grain size were decreased with increasing the contents of NiO. But the grains of the specimens doped with 0.4wt% NiO were increased, due to deposits of excess NiO at grain boundaries in the liquid phase. Relative dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the specimen doped with 0.1wt% NiO were 701 and 0.026, respectively.
