Densification behavior of titanium alloy powder was investigated under hot isostatic pressing at various pressures and temperatures. Uniaxial creep responses of a dense specimen were also obtained at high temperatures. The densification model of Abouaf and co-workers was implemented into a Finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare with experimental data for titanium alloy powder. The agreements between finite element calculations and experimental data for deformation and densification of titanium alloy powder were good during hot isostatic pressing.
The low density, sustained high temperature strength and excellent resistivity to acid materials have made them strong candidate materials for future aerospace or medical applications. Nowadays their usage has already been broaden to everyday's commercial applications such as golf club heads, finger rings and many decorative items, Anticipating the general use of this material and development of the titanium alloys in domestic furnaces, the review and the study of the machining parameters for those alloys are deemed necessary. The present studies are concentrated to the machining parameters of the Ti-6Al-4V alloys due to their dominant position in the production of titanium alloys.
In the present study, a simple method was successfully used for hydroxyapatite coatings on Ti-6Al-4V substrates deposited by using a sol-gel derived precursor. Prior to hydroxyapatite coating the samples were micropolished (0.1 micron) and divided into three sets. The first set, were the micropolished samples kept as such. The second set were coated with titania sol and the third set was treated with 5M NaOH. After three repetitions of hydroxyapatite coating procedures on each set and heat treatment at 600 $^{\circ}\Delta C$, the formation of hydroxyapatite has been confirmed by XRD analyses and the substrate material was found to be oxidized with negligible amount of CaO in the coating. The SEM studies revealed surface morphology. Hydroxyapatite, calcined at 600$^{\circ}\Delta C$, displaying a porous structure arisen from heating of the bulk. But, it is very meaningful in trying to approach morale management plans with an object of dental technicians. It is necessary that dental technicians should make efforts to control themselves.
To produce higher quality of titanium casting at a lower cost, the new titanium casting technology by using a permanent metal mold was developed and applied to fabricate hip joint for biomedical application. The present study was carried out to investigate the reactivity and fluidity of the Ti-6.0 wt%Al-4.0 wt%V alloy with metal mold by applying various ceramic powders coating on the mold surface. The molten titanium for manufacturing hip joint was poured into steel mold. No reaction layer was formed on the surface of specimens fabricated steel mold coated with $Y_2O_3$ powder.
The effects of duplex-treatment of plasma carburization and CrN coating onto Ti-6Al-4V alloy on its creep properties were investigated by means of a constant stress creep tester. Applying duplex-treatment, specimens having an inner carburized layer of about $150{\mu}m$ in depth and outer CrN layer of about $7.5{\mu}m$ in thickness were prepared. The hardness of duplex-treatment surface was about 1,960 VHN. It also appeared that the duplex-treatment improved the roughness of the surface significantly; $Ra=0.045{\mu}m$ for treated alloy while $Ra=0.321{\mu}m$ for untreated alloy. The steady-state creep behaviors were investigated in a temperature range of $510{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ ($0.42{\sim}0.44T_m$) under an applied stress range of 200~275 MPa. The stress exponent, n, was derived assuming the power law creep behavior. The surface treatment showed a decrease in a value from 9.32 (untreated) to 8.79 (treated). Also the activation energy obtained from an Arrhenius plot increased from 238 to 257 kJ/mol.
The isothermal forging design of a Ti-6Al-4V wing shape was performed by 3D FE simulation. The design focuses on near-net shape forming by the single stage. The process variables such as the die design, pre-form shape and size, ram speed and forging temperature were investigated. The main design priorities were to minimize forging loads and to distribute strain uniformly in a given forging condition. The FE simulation results for the final process design were compared with the isothermal forging tests. The instability of deformation was evaluated using a processing map based on the dynamic materials model(DMM), including flow stability criteria. Finally, a modified process design for producing a uniform Ti-6Al-4V wing product without forming defects was suggested.
Titanium alloy sheets have excellent specific strength and corrosion resistance as well as good performance at high temperature. Recently, titanium alloys are widely employed not only aerospace parts but also bio prothesis and motorcycle. However, due to the low formability and large spring back at room temperature, titanium alloy sheets were usually formed by slow forming or hot forming with heating die and specimen. In the sheet metal forming area, FE simulation technique to optimize forming process is widely used. To achieve high accuracy FE simulation results, Identification of material properties and deformation characteristic such as yield function are very important. In this study, uniaxial tensile and biaxial tensile test of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheet with thickness of 1.0mm were performed at elevated temperature of 873k. Biaxial tensile tests with cruciform specimen were performed until the specimen was breakdown to characterize the yield locus of Ti-6Al-4V alloy sheet. The experimental results for yield locus are compared with the theoretical predictions based on Von Mises, Hill, Logan-Hosford, and Balat's model. Among these Logan-Hosford's yield criterion well predicts the experimental results.

In this study, the effect of heat treatment to the electrochemical polarization resistance for the Ti-6Al-4V alloy was measured. The solution heat treatments were carried out at $1066^{circ}E, 966^{\circ}$E$, followed by aging heat treated $550^{circ}E, 600^{circ}E, and 650^{circ}E$. The electrochemical polarization resistance behavior was measured by potentio-dynamic polarization in the 1N $HNO_3$ + 15ppm HF solution. The obtained results were as follows. 1. As solution heat temperature increased. the corrosion potential was increased, whereas passive current density and critical current density were decreased. 2. As aging heat temperature increased, the corrosion potential was almost constant, but passive current density was decreased 3. The results of composition test measured by EDS at grain boundary and near $\gamma'$ precipitates indicated that S, Cl. and Si which originated from base metal were segregated at the grain boundaries Al and Ti which were the main alloying element in $\gamma'$ were depleted at the $\gamma'$ precipitated. The depletion of Al and Ti in $\gamma'$ was caused to early breakdown of passive film.
Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases are a family of nano-laminated compounds that possess unique combination of typical ceramic properties and typical metallic properties. As a member of MAX-phase, $Ti_2AlN$ bulk materials are attractive for some high temperature applications. In this study, $Ti_2AlN$ bulk with high density were synthesized by spark plasma sintering method. X-ray diffraction, micro-hardness, electrical and thermal conductivity were measured to compare the effect of material properties both $Ti_2AlN$ bulk samples and a conventional Ti-6Al-4V alloy. A femto-second laser conditions were conducted at a repetition rate of 6 kHz and laser intensity of 50 %, 70% and 90 %, respectively, laser confocal microscope were used to evaluate the width and depth of ablation. Consequently, the laser ablation result of the $Ti_2AlN$ sample than that of the Ti-6Al-4V alloys show a considerably good ablation characteristics due to its higher thermal conductivity regardless of to high densification and high hardness.
A new Ti-10Ta-10Nb alloy has designed and examined some possibility of forming more passive oxide film by oxidation treatment which is closely related to corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-10Ta-10Nb alloys were prepared by consumable vacuum arc melting and homogenized at 1050$^{\circ}C$ for 24hours. Alloy specimens were oxidized at the temperature range of 400 to 750$^{\circ}C$ for 30minutes, and the oxide films on Ti alloys were analysed by optical microscope, SEM, XPS and TGA. Cytotoxicity test was performed in MTT assay treated L929 fibroblast cell culture by indirect method. It is found out that the oxide film on Ti-10Ta-10Nb alloy is denser and thinner compared to Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The weight gain during the oxidation was increased rapidly at the temperature above 650$^{\circ}C$ for Ti-6Al-4V alloy and above 700$^{\circ}C$ for Ti-10Ta-10Nb alloy respectively. It was analysed that the passive film of the Ti alloys consisted of TiO2 through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. It is found out by cytotoxicity test that moderate oxidation treatment lowers cell toxicity, and Ti-10Ta-10Nb alloy showed better result compared to Ti-6Al-4V alloy.
