The Principle objective of this paper is to introduce a systematic approach to identifying similar container ports in Asia. For this, it analyses data on port facilities, port facility availability, port service level total container throughput, and economic index, by using Multidimentional Scaling (MDS) method. Based on the analysis it identifies five groupings of similar container ports in Asia within which Port comparison can be justifiably made, evaluates a present position of five groupings on the basis of factors used to compare container ports in Asia ; and finally proposes policy implications for operation efficiency of Pusan container port in comparison with Kaohsiung Port. The major implication is that both the Kaosuing and the Pusan port have to strengthen port facility to attract more traffic, and particularly, Pusan Port has to reinforce the number of berth, total length of berth. and yard areas.
An online scaling method adds new nodes to the shared-nothing database cluster and makes tables be reorganized while the system is running. The objective is to share the workload with many nodes and increase the capacity of cluster systems. The existing online scaling method, however, has two problems. One is the degradation of response time and transactions throughput due to the additional overheads of data transfer and replica's condidtency. The other is and inefficient recovery mechanism in which the overall scaling transaction is aborted by a fault. These problems deteriorate the availability of shared-nothing database cluster. To avoid the additional overheads throughout the scaling period, our scalingmethod consists of twophases : a parallel data transfer phase and a combination phase. The parallel data transferred datausing reduces the size of data transfer by dividing the data into the number of replicas. The combination phase combines the transferred datausing resources of spare nodes. Also, our method reduces the possibility of failure throughout the scaling period and improves the availability of the database cluster.

Opportunistic routing was originally introduced in various multihop network environments to reduce the number of hops in such a way that, among the relays that decode the transmitted packet for the current hop, the one that is closest to the destination becomes the transmitter for the next hop. Unlike the conventional opportunistic routing case where there is a single active S-D pair, for an ad hoc network in the presence of fading, we investigate the performance of parallel opportunistic multihop routing that is simultaneously performed by many source-destination (S-D) pairs to maximize the opportunistic gain, thereby enabling us to obtain a logarithmic gain. We first analyze a cut-set upper bound on the throughput scaling law of the network. Second, computer simulations are performed to verify the performance of the existing opportunistic routing for finite network conditions and to show trends consistent with the analytical predictions in the scaling law. More specifically, we evaluate both power and delay with respect to the number of active S-D pairs and then, numerically show a net improvement in terms of the power-delay trade-off over the conventional multihop routing that does not consider the randomness of fading.
Malaria elimination and control require prompt and accurate diagnosis for treatment plan. Since microscopy and rapid diagnostic test (RDT) are not sensitive particularly for diagnosing low parasitemia, highly sensitive diagnostic tools are required for accurate treatment. Molecular diagnosis of malaria is commonly carried out by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting 18S rRNA gene, while this technique involves long turnaround time and multiple steps leading to false positive results. To overcome these drawbacks, we compared highly sensitive cytochrome oxidase gene-based single-step multiplex reaction with 18S rRNA nested PCR. Cytochrome oxidase (cox) genes of P. falciparum (cox-III) and P. vivax (cox-I) were compared with 18S rRNA gene nested PCR and microscopy. Cox gene multiplex PCR was found to be highly specific and sensitive, enhancing the detection limit of mixed infections. Cox gene multiplex PCR showed a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 97%. This approach can be used as an alternative diagnostic method as it offers higher diagnostic performance and is amenable to high throughput scaling up for a larger sample size at low cost.

In this paper, we introduce three types of opportunistic interference management strategies in multi-cell uplink networks with time-invariant channel coefficients. First, we propose two types of opportunistic interference mitigation techniques, where each base station (BS) opportunistically selects a set of users who generate the minimum interference to the other BSs, and then their performance is analyzed in terms of degrees-of-freedom (DoF). Second, we propose a distributed opportunistic scheduling, where each BS opportunistically select a user using a scheduler designed based on two threshold, and then its performance is analyzed in terms of throughput scaling law. Finally, numerical evaluation is performed to verify our result.

The active components in a plant extract can be represented as mass profiles. We introduce here a new, multi-compound discovery method known as Scaling of Correlations between Activity and Mass Profiles (SCAMP). In this method, a correlation coefficient is used to quantify similarities between the extract activity and mass profiles. The method was evaluated by first measuring the anti-oxidation activity of eleven fractions of an Astragali Radix extract using DPPH assays. Next, 15 T Fouriertransform ion cyclotron resonance (FT-ICR) MS was employed to generate mass profiles of the eleven fractions. A comparison of correlation coefficients indicated two compounds at m/z 285.076 and 286.076 that were strong antioxidants. Principal component analyses of these profiles yielded the same result. FT-ICR MS, which offers a mass resolving power of 500,000, was used to discern isotopic fine structures and indicated that the molecular formula corresponding to the peak at m/z 285.076 was $C_{16}H_{13}O_5$. SCAMP in combination with high-resolution MS can be applied to any type of mixture to study pharmacological activity and is a powerful tool for active compound discovery in plant extract studies.
Inertial microfluidics has attracted significant attention in recent years due to its superior benefits of high throughput, precise control, simplicity, and low cost. Many inertial microfluidic applications have been demonstrated for physiological sample processing, clinical diagnostics, and environmental monitoring and cleanup. In this review, we discuss the fundamental mechanisms and principles of inertial migration and Dean flow, which are the basis of inertial microfluidics, and provide basic scaling laws for designing the inertial microfluidic devices. This will allow end-users with diverse backgrounds to more easily take advantage of the inertial microfluidic technologies in a wide range of applications. A variety of recent applications are also classified according to the structure of the microchannel: straight channels and curved channels. Finally, several future perspectives of employing fluid inertia in microfluidic-based cell sorting are discussed. Inertial microfluidics is still expected to be promising in the near future with more novel designs using various shapes of cross section, sheath flows with different viscosities, or technologies that target micron and submicron bioparticles.

This paper proposes the high speed LDPC decoder structure base on the DVB-S2. Firstly, We study the solution to avoid the memory conflict. For the high speed decoding process the decoder adapts the HSS(Horizontal Shuffle Scheduling) scheme. Secondly, for the high speed decoding algorithm normalized Min-Sum algorithm is adapted instead of Sum-Product algorithm. And the self corrected is a variant of the LDPC decoding that sets the reliability of a Mc${\rightarrow}$v message to 0 if there is an inconsistency between the signs of the current incoming messages Mv'${\rightarrow}$c and the sign of the previous incoming messages Moldv'${\rightarrow}$c This self-corrected algorithm avoids the propagation on unreliable information in the Tanner graph and thus, helps the convergence of the decoder.Start after striking space key 2 times. Lastly, and this paper propose the optimal hardware architecture supporting the high speed throughput.

Biopulping is defined as the treatment of wood chips with lignin-degrading fungi prior to pulping. Fungal pretreatment prior to mechanical pulping reduces electrical energy requirements during refining or increases mill throughput, improves paper strength, reduces the pitch content, and reduces the environmental impact of pulping. Our recent work involved scaling up the biopulping process towards the industrial level, investigating both the engineering and economic feasibility. We envision the process to be done in either a chip-pile or silo-based system for which several factors need to be considered: the degree of decontamination, a hospitable environment for the fungus, and the overall process economics. Currently, treatment of the chips with low-pressure steam is sufficient for decontamination and a simple, forced ventilation system maintains the proper temperature, humidity, and moisture conditions, thus promoting uniform growth of the fungus. The pilot-scale trial resulted in the successful treatment of 4 tons of wood chips (dry weight basis) with results comparable to those on a laboratory. Larger, 40-ton trials were also successful, with energy savings and paper properties comparable with the laboratory scale. The overall economics of the process also look very favorable and can result in significant annual savings to the mill. Although the current research has focused on biopulping for mechanical pulping, it is also beneficial for sulfite chemical pulping and some applications to recycled fiber have been investigated.
