Comparison of access window created by cervical ventral slot and modified slanted ventral slot in canine cadaver

  • Ten cadavers were studied to compare the accessibility of cervical vertebral canal with conventional standard ventral slot and modified slanted ventral slot. One group performed standard ventral slot procedures at the C3-4, C5-6. The other group performed modified slanted ventral slot with inverted cone technique procedures at the C3-4, C5-6 computed tomography was performed before and after surgery. The accessibility of cervical vertebral canal with conventional standard ventral slot and modified slanted ventral slot using computed tomography in C3-4 and C5-6 intervertebral space was compared. Although smaller ostectomy was performed in the modified slanted ventral slot, some lesions were more accessible but limitations were obvious in C3-4 and C5-6 intervertebral disk space. After the disc material has been identified through accurate preoperative diagnostic imaging, less morbidity and complications can be expected if the appropriate surgical method is selected based on the lesion of compression.

사이펀 여수로 공기혼입장치(air slot)의 방류량 조절 능력에 대한 실험 연구 (Experimental Study for Capability of Air Slot in Siphon Spillway to Control Outflow Discharge)

  • 본 연구에서는 수리모형실험을 통해 사이펀 여수로에 장착된 공기혼입장치(air slot)의 방류량 조절 능력을 검토하였다. 공기혼입장치의 단면 형상으로 원호 및 직사각형 형상을 채택하였으며, 개구부 면적을 조절할 수 있게 하였다. 공기혼입장치가 장착된 경우 사이펀 관 내부에 공기와 물이 혼합된 복잡한 흐름이 발생하였다. 공기혼입장치가 장착된 사이펀 여수로에서 저수지 내측 수위가 상승할 때와 하강할 때 동일한 수위에서 동일한 유량이 계측되었다. 공기혼입장치의 무차원 개구부 면적이 증가할수록 일정한 수두차 및 저수지 수위 조건에서 무차원 방류량은 감소하였다. 수리모형실험 결과는 공기혼입장치의 면적 조절을 통해 사이펀을 통한 방류량 조절이 가능함을 보여주었다.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the flow and combustion characteristic of the experimental burner which was manufactured for the reflection of the oven and broil burner features. As slot shape, spacing between slots, and slot arrangement of the exit area which emits the mixing gas are different in case of oven burners and broil turners, the purpose of this study is to know the affection of the flame interaction and combustion characteristic according to the change of shape factors such as slot shape, slot arrangement, and slot-to-slot spacing. With no relation of the slot shape, as the spacing between slots became narrow, the occurrence of a lift-flame was delayed. So the combustion was possible in the leaner region, but the appearance of yellow-tip became a little fast. Slit slot port had the broadest operating range among the other slot shapes. Specially, from the side of lift-flame, as the jet that spreads downstream in the longitudinal slot was nearly circular just a few slot lengths away from the orifice, slot-to-slot spacing of the Slit port was closer than the other ports. These results could be expected through the computer numerical method and had a good agreement. As the spacing between slots increased, in case of Slit and Mix port, NOx emission rate was constant or decreased, but the NOx emission of Hole port was increased. CO emission rate of Slit and Hole port was increased as the slot-to-slot spacing was broadened.

Compact Dual-Band Half-Ring-Shaped Bent Slot Antenna for WLAN and WiMAX Applications

  • A compact dual-band half-ring-shaped (HRS) bent slot antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide for wireless local area network (WLAN) and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) applications is presented. The antenna consists of two HRS slots with different lengths and widths. The two HRS slots are connected through an arc-shaped slit, and the upper HRS slot is bent in order to reduce the size of the antenna. The optimized dual-band HRS bent slot antenna operating in the 2.45 GHz WLAN and 3.5 GHz WiMAX bands is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with dimensions of 30 mm by 30 mm. The slot length of the proposed dual-band slot antenna is reduced by 35%, compared to a conventional dual-band rectangular slot antenna. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna operates in the frequency bands of 2.40-2.49 GHz and 3.39-3.72 GHz for a voltage standing wave ratio of less than 2, and measured gain is larger than 1.4 dBi in the two bands.

  • Photonic Slot Routing(PSR) is a promising approach to solve the fundamental scalability problem of all-optical packet switched WDM networks. In photonic slot routing, packets destined for the same subnetwork are aggregated to form a photonic slot which is jointly routed as a single unit of information through the network. The relative location of the nodes from bridge may cause to fairness problem in the unidirectional WDM ring network based on PSR. As photonic slots from different subnetworks can originate contentions at the bridge, packets may be dropped and retransmitted. Thus we evaluated the performance of PSR based WDM ring network in the point of fairness for each node and slot contentions at the bridge. Simulation results show that the PSR based WDM ring requires a slot access mechanism to guarantee the transmission fairness and efficient switch architecture to resolve slot contention at the bridge.

Weight Decision Scheme based on Slot-Count in Gen-2 Q-Algorithm

  • In the Gen-2 Q-algorithm, the values of weight C, which is the parameter for incrementing or decrementing the slot-count size, are not optimized in the standard. However, the standard suggests that the reader uses small values of C when the slot-count is large and larger values of C when the slot-count is small. In this case, if the reader selects an inappropriate weight, there are a lot of empty or collided slots. As a result, the performance will be declined because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we propose a scheme to select the weight based on the slot-count size of current query round. Through various computer simulations, it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieves more stable performances than Gen-2 Q-algorithm.

  • A novel mixed-integer linear programming model for the short-term scheduling of a sequential multipurpose batch plant is addressed. First, a time slot domain to each unit is introduced. By assigning each time slot to a product, we obtain the production sequence that minimizes makespan. For multiple-unit assignment problem where a few parallel units with the same function exist, production paths are defined for the distinction of the same stage with a different unit. As a second issue, the model adapted for sequence dependent changeover is presented. For a time slot of a unit, if a product is assigned to the time slot and a different product is assigned to the adjacent time slot, the changeover time considering this situation is included. The performance of the proposed models are illustrated through two examples.

Initial Slot-Count Selection Scheme with Tag Number Estimation in Gen-2 RFID System

  • In Gen-2 RFID system, the initial value of $Q_{fp}$, which is the slot-count parameter of Q-algorithm, is not defined in the standard. In this case, if the number of tags within the reader's identification range is small and we let the initial $Q_{fp}$ be large, the number of empty slot will be large. On the other hand, if we let the initial $Q_{fp}$ be small in spite of many tags, almost all the slots will be collided. As a result, the performance will be declined because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we propose a scheme to allocate the optimal initial $Q_{fp}$ through the tag number estimation before the query round begins. Through computer simulations, it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieves more stable performance than Gen-2 Q-algorithm.

단일 슬롯 만곡형전개판의 유체역학적 특성에 대한 연구 (The Study on the Hydrodynamic Characteristics of the Single Slot Cambered Otter Board)

  • This study deals with the experimental and numerical investigations to design the high performance otter board. Experiment was carried out to determine the most effective slot size of single-slot cambered otter board in the circulation water channel of BAEK KYUNG IND. Co. LTD. Numerical analysis was done by the commercial CFD code, FLUENT, to provide some valuable physical interpretations and finally to design the otter board section by numerical method. The major results are as follows ; 1. In experiment, the maximum lift and drag coefficients of simple cambered type otterboard were 1.41, 0.55, respectively, at the angle of attack $28^\circ$, while those of slot one with slot size 0.02C (C denotes the chord length) were 1.72, 0.42 at the angle of attack $24^\circ$. 2. The hydrodynamic characteristics depending upon slot size shows the greatest at 0.02C of the slot size. 3. Numerical results well visualized the streamlines, pressure fields, and speed vectors of a simple cambered and slot cambered otter board with slot size 0.02C. The slot cambered one with slot size 0.02C was shown that pressure field was distributed moderately on front and back side of otter board. And, the delay and decrease of separation were favorably achieved by flow through slot. 4. Computed result on the pattern of hydrodynamic field and the values of $C_L$ and $C_D$ by the commercial CFD code, FLUENT, show almost the same as those of the experimental result.

도체평판의 슬롯 침투 전자파 저감을 위한 개구면 차단필터 (Aperture Cut-off Filter for Reduction of Electromagnetic Field Penetration through a Slot in Conducting Screens)

  • 본 논문에서는 무한 도체평판의 슬롯을 통해 침투하는 침투 전자파를 저감(차단)시키기 위한 개구면 차단필터를 제안하고 슬롯으로 침투하는 전자파의 저감(차단) 특성을 검토하고 있다. 개구면 차단필터의 개념을 정립하기 위해 무한 도체평판에 있는 슬롯의 개구면 전계분포에 관한 적분방정식을 유도하고, 적분방정식의 해를 모멘트법으로 구하여 평면파가 슬롯 개구에 입사할 때 개구면 차단필터에 의한 침투 전자파의 저감(차단) 효과를 검토하였다. 이론해석의 결과, 도체평판의 슬롯으로 침투하는 침투 전자파를 저감(차단)시킬 수 있는 개구면 차단필터가 실현 가능함을 확인할 수 있었다. 개구면 차단필터의 개념 및 이론해석의 타당성을 검증하기 위해 폭이 좁은 슬롯에 개구면 차단필터를 부착하여 침투 전자파의 저감(차단) 효과를 실험적으로 확인하였다.
