A Study on The Change Characteristic of Basin Topographical Parameters According to the Threshold Area of Stream Creation (하천생성 임계면적의 변화에 따른 유역의 지형관련 매개변수들의 특성분석)

  • The change of stream creation has a very sensitive effect on runoff analysis model using the divergence characteristic of stream. Therefore, in this study, the threshold area of stream creation was examined the change characteristic of topographical parameters. The subject basin of the research was the upper basin of the Kumho water gage station which is located in the middle of the Kumho river. The 1:25,000 numerical geography which was constructed $10{\times}10m$ mesh was used. The range of investigation of topographical parameters are number of stream order, length, area, slope, basin relief, sinuosity ratio, drainage density and total stream length etc. It was found from the result of analysis that the threshold value of 1st order stream has a very big effect on topographical parameters of basin. It was found that the threshold area of stream creation was under $0.10km^2$, the parameters showed a big change but showed a very small change over $0.10km^2$.

Automatic Liver Segmentation of a Contrast Enhanced CT Image Using an Improved Partial Histogram Threshold Algorithm

  • This paper proposes an automatic liver segmentation method using improved partial histogram threshold (PHT) algorithms. This method removes neighboring abdominal organs regardless of random pixel variation of contrast enhanced CT images. Adaptive multi-modal threshold is first performed to extract a region of interest (ROI). A left PHT (LPHT) algorithm is processed to remove the pancreas, spleen, and left kidney. Then a right PHT (RPHT) algorithm is performed for eliminating the right kidney from the ROI. Finally, binary morphological filtering is processed for removing of unnecessary objects and smoothing of the ROI boundary. Ten CT slices of six patients (60 slices) were selected to evaluate the proposed method. As evaluation measures, an average normalized area and area error rate were used. From the experimental results, the proposed automatic liver segmentation method has strong similarity performance as the MSM by medical Doctor.

Hand Segmentation Using Depth Information and Adaptive Threshold by Histogram Analysis with color Clustering

  • This paper presents a method for hand segmentation using depth information, and adaptive threshold by means of histogram analysis and color clustering in HSV color model. We consider hand area as a nearer object to the camera than background on depth information. And the threshold of hand color is adaptively determined by clustering using the matching of color values on the input image with one of the regions of hue histogram. Experimental results demonstrate 95% accuracy rate. Thus, we confirmed that the proposed method is effective for hand segmentation in variations of hand color, scale, rotation, pose, different lightning conditions and any colored background.

  • In this study, we surveyed the operating status of the Runway for the Light Sport Aircraft(LSA) in Korea, and analyzed the Airfield Facilities Manual for the Air Leisure and the Standard Specification for Recreational Airpark Design. Based on the information, we presented the displacement of the threshold concept, to ensure the Runway Length and the Runway Safety Area, and operation of LSA in Korea.

Area-constrained NTC Manycore Architecture Design Methodology (면적 제약 조건을 고려한 NTC 매니코어 설계 방법론)

  • With the advance in semiconductor technology, the number of elements that can be integrated in system-on-chip(SoC) increases exponentially, and thus voltage scaling is indispensable to enhance energy efficiency. Near-threshold voltage computing(NTC) improves the energy efficiency by an order of degree, hence it is able to overcome the limitation of conventional super-threshold voltage computing(STC). Although NTC-based low performance manycore system can be used to maximize energy efficiency, it demands more number of cores to sustain the performance, which results in considerable increase of area. In this paper, we analyze NTC manycore architecture considering the trade-offs between performance, power, and area. Therefore, we propose an algorithmic methodology that can optimize power consumption and area while satisfying the required performance by determining the constrained number of cores and size of caches and clusters in NTC environment. Experimental results show that proposed NTC architecture can reduce power consumption by approximately 16.5 % while maintaining the performance of STC core under area constraint.

Accurate Detection of a Defective Area by Adopting a Divide and Conquer Strategy in Infrared Thermal Imaging Measurement

  • Aiming at infrared thermal images with different buried depth defects, we study a variety of image segmentation algorithms based on the threshold to develop global search ability and the ability to find the defect area accurately. Firstly, the iterative thresholding method, the maximum entropy method, the minimum error method, the Ostu method and the minimum skewness method are applied to image segmentation of the same infrared thermal image. The study shows that the maximum entropy method and the minimum error method have strong global search capability and can simultaneously extract defects at different depths. However none of these five methods can accurately calculate the defect area at different depths. In order to solve this problem, we put forward a strategy of "divide and conquer". The infrared thermal image is divided into several local thermal maps, with each map containing only one defect, and the defect area is calculated after local image processing of the different buried defects one by one. The results show that, under the "divide and conquer" strategy, the iterative threshold method and the Ostu method have the advantage of high precision and can accurately extract the area of different defects at different depths, with an error of less than 5%.

Development and Evaluation of Computational Method for Korean Threshold Runoff (국내 유역특성을 반영한 한계유출량 산정기법 개발 및 평가)

  • The objective of this study is to develop and evaluate a Korean threshold runoff computation method. The selected study area is the Han-River basin and the stream channels in the study area are divided into 3 parts; natural channel and artificial manmade channel for small mountainous catchments, and main channel for master stream. The threshold runoff criteria for small streams is decided to 0.5 m water level increase from the channel bottom, which is the level that mountain climbers and campers successfully escape from natural flood damage. Threshold runoff values in natural channel of small mountainous area are computed by the results from the regional regression analysis between parameters of basin and stream channel, while those in artificial channel of small mountainous area are obtained from the data of basin and channel characteristics parameter. On the other hand, the threshold runoff values for master channel are used the warning flood level that is useful information for escaping guideline for riverside users. For verification of the threshold runoff computation method proposed in this study, three flash flood cases are selected and compared with observed values, which is obtained from SCS effective rainfall computation. The 1, 3, 6-hour effective rainfall values are greater than the corresponding threshold runoff values represents that the proposed computation results are reasonable.

  • The procedures for identifying channel network are suggested by exploring the scaling property between the local slope and the contributing area, given that the area threshold criterion is an indispensable complement to the slope-area threshold criterion. Through the use of the above procedures and the field data, the basin slopes illustrate the trends of large scatters in space for the geomorphologic/topographic factors. According to the scaling regimes of them both the forms of landscape can be classified as topographic divergence and convergence. The presentation of the procedures proposed in this study is implemented in the case study on Seolma experimental catchment in Korea. As a result the dynamic behaviors of basin are confirmed, and thus the dynamics of channel head advance and channel network are shown to represent better than the method using the topographic chart manually.

  • An useful method for evaluating the threshold of the optimum detector can be used if sufficient statistics exists. This was done by giving examples. The design of the suboptimum detector can be carried out by finding the threshold of the appropriate test statistics. The results are conformed with the existing theory and the method given above is applicable in extensive area of designing the detectors.

  • There are many application areas of sensor networks, such as surveillance, hospital monitoring, and home network. These are dependent on the secure operation of networks, and will have serious outcome if the networks is injured. An adversary can inject false data into the network through the compromising node. Ye et al. proposed a statistical en-route filtering scheme (SEF) to detect such false data during forwarding process. In this scheme, it is important that the choice of the threshold value since it trades off security and overhead. This paper presents an adaptive threshold value determining method in the SEF using fuzzy logic. The fuzzy logic determines a security distance value by considering the situation of the network. The Sensor network is divided into several areas by the security distance value, it can each area to uses the different threshold value. The fuzzy based threshold value can reduce the energy consumption in transmitting.
