Standard positive photoresist techniques were adapted to generate nano-scale patterns of gold substrate using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) and femtosecond laser. SAMs formed by the adsorption of alkanethiols onto gold substrate are employed as very thin photoresists, Alkanethiolates formed by the adsorption of alkanethiols are oxidized on exposure to UV light in the presence of air to alkylsulfonates. Specifically, it is known that deep UV light of wavelength less than 200nm is necessary for oxidation to occur. In this study, ultrafast laser of wavelength 800nm and pulse width 200fs is applied for photolithography. Results show that ultrafast laser of visible range wavelength can replace deep UV laser source for photo patterning using thin organic films. Femtosecond laser coupled near-field scanning optical microscopy facilitates not only the patterning of surface chemical structure, but also the creation of three-dimensional nano-scale structures by combination with suitable etching methods.
The method of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry has been used to solve some bioanalytical problems, which is difficult to analyse by general methods. For the selection of proper laser wavelength and matrices, eight matriees was used with laser wavelength of 226 and 355nm. The result shows that with wavelength of 355nm better results could be obtained with most of the matrices. The molecular weight of eytochrome C, which was seperated by gel electrophoresis and electro-blotted onto NC membrane is determined by MALDI. The accuracy is better than 0.1%, which is much higher than that of SDS-PAGE. Protein mixture extracted from crude peanut oil is directly determined by MALDI. The molecuiar weight of its three components are determined, and the result also demonstrated that these proteins are in free manner. As proteins arc in 2S bond, with the traditional method, SDS-PAGE, it is not able to decide whether protein exists in combination mode or in free manner. In the technique of two phase aquesous solution, which is used for separating biomaterials, water soluble polymers stained with dyes are used in this technique. By the use of MALDI the number or the dye molecules react with the polymer PEG molecule are determined, and that is difficult to determined by other methods.

Inspection and shape measurement of three-dimensional objects are widely needed in industries for quality monitoring and control. Recently the shape measurement using interferometric principle is found to be a successful methodology among other visual or optical technologies. Especially, the measuring method using wavelength scanning interferometer(WSI) has a great advantage in comparison with other conventional jnterferometric methods in that the absolute distance from the reference surface can be directly obtained from the amount of jnterferometric phase change. However, the measurement methods using WSI proposed by other researchers have low measurement resolution so far because they can't measure fractional phase change. To avoid this shortcoming we propose a new algorithm in this paper, which can obtain a small amount of even fractional phase change by sinusoidal function fitting. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed sinusoidal function fitting algorithm, a series of measuring experiments are conducted for discontinuously shaped specimens which have various height. The proposed algorithm shows much more enhanced measurement resolution than other existing conventional algorithms such as zero crossing algorithm and Fourier transform algorithm.
We propose a method to synthesize a color non-hogel-based computer-generated-hologram (CGH) from light field data of a three-dimensional scene with a hologram pixel pitch shared for all color channels. The non-hogel-based CGH technique generates a continuous wavefront with arbitrary carrier wave from given light field data by interpreting the ray angle in the light field to the spatial frequency of the plane wavefront. The relation between ray angle and spatial frequency is, however, dependent on the wavelength, which leads to different spatial frequency sampling grid in the light field data, resulting in color aberrations in the hologram reconstruction. The proposed method sets a hologram pixel pitch common to all color channels such that the smallest blue diffraction angle covers the field of view of the light field. Then a spatial frequency sampling grid common to all color channels is established by interpolating the light field with the spatial frequency range of the blue wavelength and the sampling interval of the red wavelength. The common hologram pixel pitch and light field spatial frequency sampling grid ensure the synthesis of a color hologram without any color aberrations in the hologram reconstructions, or any loss of information contained in the light field. The proposed method is successfully verified using color light field data of various test or natural 3D scenes.

Thermal sensors, also called thermal infrared wavelength sensors, measure temperature based on the intensity of infrared signals that reach the sensor. The infrared signals recognized by the sensor include infrared wavelength(0.7~3.0㎛) and radiant infrared wavelength(3.0~100㎛). Infrared(IR) wavelengths are divided into five bands: near infrared(NIR), shortwave infrared(SWIR), midwave infrared(MWIR), longwave infrared(LWIR), and far infrared(FIR). Most thermal sensors use the LWIR to capture images. Thermal sensors measure the temperature of the target in a non-contact manner, and the data can be affected by the sensor's viewing angle between the target and the sensor, the amount of atmospheric water vapor (humidity), air temperature, and ground conditions. In this study, the characteristics of three thermal imaging sensor models that are widely used for observation using unmanned aerial vehicles were evaluated, and the optimal application field was determined.

Using the MHD coronal seismology technique, we estimated the magnetic field for three spicules observed in 2008 June. For this study, we used the high resolution Ca II H line ($3968.5\;{\AA}$) images observed by the Hinode SOT and considered a vertical thin flux tube as a spicule model. To our knowledge, this is the first attempt to estimate the spicule magnetic field using the Hinode observation. From the observed oscillation properties, we determined the periods, amplitudes, minimum wavelengths, and wave speeds. We interpreted the observed oscillations as MHD kink waves propagating through a vertical thin flux tube embedded in a uniform field environment. Then we estimated spicule magnetic field assuming spicule densities. Major results from this study are as follows : (1) we observed three oscillating spicules having durations of 5-7 minutes, oscillating periods of 2-3 minutes, and transverse displacements of 700-1000 km. (2) The estimated magnetic field in spicules is about 10-18 G for lower density limit and about 43-76 G for upper density limit. (3) In this analysis, we can estimate the minimum wavelength of the oscillations, such as 60000 km, 56000 km, and 45000 km. This may be due to the much longer wavelength comparing with the height of spicules. (4) In the first event occurred on 2008 June 03, the oscillation existed during limited time (about 250 s). This means that the oscillation may be triggered by an impulsive mechanism (like low atmospheric reconnection), not continuous. Being compared with the ground-based observations of spicule oscillations, our observation indicates quite different one, i.e., more than one order longer in wavelength, a factor of 3-4 larger in wave speed, and 2-3 times longer in period.
The photoinitiated intramolecular ylide-olefin addition has been developed as an approach for the construction of one ring and two chiral centers, two rings and three chiral centers or three rings and six chiral centers in a single experimental operation from relatively simple starting materials. These investigations have uncovered several interesting and unusual reactions, which are sensitive to controls such as wavelength, temperature and solvent.
Inspection and shape measurement of three-dimensional objects are widely needed in industries for quality monitoring and control. A number of visual or optical technologies have been successfully applied to measure three dimensional surfaces. Especially, the shape measurement using an interferometric principle becomes a successful methodology. However, those conventional interferometric methods to measure surface profile have an inherent shortcoming, namely 2∏ ambiguity problem. The problem inevitably happens when the object to be measured has discontinuous shape due to the repetition of interferometric signal with phase period of 2∏. Therefore, in this paper, we choose as a shape measuring method, ...

In this work, in order to realize a band pass filter with wide-band characteristics for mobile communications, 2 GHz band pass filter was designed using ring resonator with stub. The three stage wide-band BPF was designed and fabricated. For broadband design, the ring circumference was divided by 4 sections with 1/8 wavelength and 2 sections with 1/4 wavelength which have different line impedances. The characteristics of the proposed BPF were highly improved by using three stage ring resonator. The characteristic impedance values of each sections were obtained by Powell's least square algorithm where differentiations are not needed. The measured results showed a good agreement with the theoretical results as well as ADS simulation.
