Estimation of a Driver's Physical Condition Using Real-time Vision System (실시간 비전 시스템을 이용한 운전자 신체적 상태 추정)

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for estimating a driver's physical condition using real-time vision system and performs experimentation for real facial image data. The system relies on a face recognition to robustly track the center points and sizes of person's two pupils, and two side edge points of the mouth. The face recognition constitutes the color statistics by YUV color space together with geometrical model of a typical face. The system can classify the rotation in all viewing directions, to detect eye/mouth occlusion, eye blinking and eye closure, and to recover the three dimensional gaze of the eyes. These are utilized to determine the carelessness and drowsiness of the driver. Finally, experimental results have demonstrated the validity and the applicability of the proposed method for the estimation of a driver's physical condition.

Homogeneous and Non-homogeneous Polynomial Based Eigenspaces to Extract the Features on Facial Images

  • High dimensional space is the biggest problem when classification process is carried out, because it takes longer time for computation, so that the costs involved are also expensive. In this research, the facial space generated from homogeneous and non-homogeneous polynomial was proposed to extract the facial image features. The homogeneous and non-homogeneous polynomial-based eigenspaces are the second opinion of the feature extraction of an appearance method to solve non-linear features. The kernel trick has been used to complete the matrix computation on the homogeneous and non-homogeneous polynomial. The weight and projection of the new feature space of the proposed method have been evaluated by using the three face image databases, i.e., the YALE, the ORL, and the UoB. The experimental results have produced the highest recognition rate 94.44%, 97.5%, and 94% for the YALE, ORL, and UoB, respectively. The results explain that the proposed method has produced the higher recognition than the other methods, such as the Eigenface, Fisherface, Laplacianfaces, and O-Laplacianfaces.

Facial expression recognition based on pleasure and arousal dimensions (쾌 및 각성차원 기반 얼굴 표정인식)

  • This paper presents a new system for facial expression recognition based in dimension model of internal states. The information of facial expression are extracted to the three steps. In the first step, Gabor wavelet representation extracts the edges of face components. In the second step, sparse features of facial expressions are extracted using fuzzy C-means(FCM) clustering algorithm on neutral faces, and in the third step, are extracted using the Dynamic Model(DM) on the expression images. Finally, we show the recognition of facial expression based on the dimension model of internal states using a multi-layer perceptron. The two dimensional structure of emotion shows that it is possible to recognize not only facial expressions related to basic emotions but also expressions of various emotion.

  • 본 논문은 복잡한 비선형 모델링 방법인 다항식 기반 RBF 뉴럴 네트워크(Radial Basis Function Neural Network)와 벡터공간에서 임의의 비선형 경계를 찾아 두 개의 집합을 분류하는 방법으로 주어진 조건하에서 수학적으로 최적의 해를 찾는 SVM(Support Vector Machine)를 사용하여 3차원 얼굴인식 모델을 설계하고 두 모델의 3차원 얼굴 인식률을 비교한다. 3D스캐너를 통해 3차원 얼굴형상을 획득하고 획득한 영상을 전처리 과정에서 포인트 클라우드 정합과 포즈보상을 수행한다. 포즈보상 통해 정면으로 재배치한 영상을 Multiple Point Signature기법을 이용하여 얼굴의 깊이 데이터를 추출한다. 추출된 깊이 데이터를 RBFNN과 SVM의 입력패턴과 출력으로 선정하여 모델을 설계한다. 각 모델의 효율적인 학습을 위해 PCA 알고리즘을 이용하여 고차원의 패턴을 축소하여 모델을 설계하고 인식 성능을 비교 및 확인한다.

Recognizing a polyhedron by network constraint analysis

  • The present paper describes a method of recognizing a polyhedron employing the notion of network constraint analysis. Typical difficulties in three-dimensional object recognition, other than shading, reflection, and hidden line problems, include the case where appearances of an object vary according to observation points and the case where an object to be recognized is occluded by other objects placed in its front, resulting in incomplete information on the object shape. These difficulties can, however, be solved to a large extent, by taking account of certain local constraints defined on a polyhedral shape. The present paper assumes a model-based vision employing an appearance-oriented model of a polyhedron which is provided by placing it at the origin of a large sphere and observing it from various positions on the surface of the sphere. The model is actually represented by the sets of adjacent faces pairs of the polyhedron observed from those positions. Since the shape of a projected face gives constraint to that of its adjacent face, this results in a local constraint relation between these faces. Each projected face of an unknown polyhedron on an acquired image is examined its match with those faces in the model, producing network constraint relations between faces in the image and faces in the model. Taking adjacency of faces into consideration, these network constraint relations are analyzed. And if the analysis finally provides a solution telling existence of one to one match of the faces between the unknown polyhedron and the model, the unknown polyhedron is understood to be one of those memorized models placed in a certain posture. In the performed experiment, a polyhedron was observed from 320 regularly arranged points on a sphere to provide its appearance model and a polyhedron with arbitrarily postured, occluded, or imposed another difficulty was successfully recognized.

Pointwise CNN for 3D Object Classification on Point Cloud

  • Three-dimensional (3D) object classification tasks using point clouds are widely used in 3D modeling, face recognition, and robotic missions. However, processing raw point clouds directly is problematic for a traditional convolutional network due to the irregular data format of point clouds. This paper proposes a pointwise convolution neural network (CNN) structure that can process point cloud data directly without preprocessing. First, a 2D convolutional layer is introduced to percept coordinate information of each point. Then, multiple 2D convolutional layers and a global max pooling layer are applied to extract global features. Finally, based on the extracted features, fully connected layers predict the class labels of objects. We evaluated the proposed pointwise CNN structure on the ModelNet10 dataset. The proposed structure obtained higher accuracy compared to the existing methods. Experiments using the ModelNet10 dataset also prove that the difference in the point number of point clouds does not significantly influence on the proposed pointwise CNN structure.

Convergence and integration study related to development of digital contents for radiography training using dental radiograph and augmented reality (치과방사선사진과 증강현실을 활용한 방사선촬영법 숙련용 디지털 콘텐츠 개발에 대한 융복합 연구)

  • This study aims to develop digital techniques that enable repeated practice of dental radiography using augmented reality technology. A three-dimensional object was fabricated by superimposing a photograph of an adult model and a computed tomography image of a manikin phantom. The system was structured using 106 radiographs such that one of these saved radiographs is opened when the user attempts to take a radiograph on a mobile device. This system enabled users to repeatedly practice at the pre-clinical stage without exposure to radiation. We attempt to contribute to enhancing dental hygienists' competency in dental radiography using these techniques. However, a system that enables the user to actually take a radiograph based on face recognition would be more useful in terms of practice, so additional studies are needed on the topic.
