To date, the development of anticancer drugs has been conducted using two-dimensional (2D) cell culture systems. However, since cancer cells in the body are generated and developed in three-dimensional (3D) microenvironments, the use of 2D anticancer drug screening can make it difficult to accurately evaluate the anticancer effects of drug candidates. Therefore, as a step towards developing a cancer cell-friendly 3D microenvironment based on a combination of vinylsulfone-functionalized polyethylene glycol (PEG-VS) with dicysteine-containing crosslinker peptides with an intervening matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-specific cleavage site, the types of MMPs secreted from human hepatocarcinoma HepG2 cells, a representative cancer cell, were analyzed transcriptionally and translationally. MMP3 was confirmed to be the most highly expressed protease secreted by HepG2 cells. This knowledge will be important in the design of a crosslinker necessary for the construction of PEG-based hydrogels customized for the 3D culture of HepG2 cells.
This paper reviews the literature on urban sustainability with the objective of drawing more attention to the social aspect of sustainability in urban planning. Given that social capital is a crucial component of moving towards more progressive smart cities and urban innovation, it is important to investigate the social dimension of sustainability and the opportunities that just cities can bring to improve the quality of life for urban dwellers. This paper is divided into three sections. The initial section provides an introduction to urban sustainability, discussing the historical roots of sustainability and sustainable development ideas, the three fundamental elements of sustainability, and the process of defining and measuring sustainability in an urban setting. Moving on to the second section, it delves into the body of work related to linking urban sustainability with urban strategies. The third section finally addresses the emergence of literature on just sustainability and just cities, which can give valuable insights to city policymakers who are trying to improve balanced sustainability.
This study is a methodological research study to develop an instrument to measure in patients with cancer and to test the validity and reliability of the instrument. The research procedure was as follows : 1) The first step was to develop conceptual framework based on a comprehensive review of the literature and in-depth interviews with patients with cancer. This conceptual framework was organized in to three dimensions (the intrapersonal dimension, the significant-other and context related dimension, the transcendental dimension). Initially 59 items were adopted. 2) These items were analyzed through the index of content validity(CVI) and 53 items were selected which met more than 80% on the CVI. 3) The pretest was carried out with 87 patients with cancer. After the pretest results were analyzed by item analysis, 44 items were selected. A second test of content validity was conducted and 6 items were eliminated considering the 80% CVI. 4) To test for reliability and validity, data collection was done during the period from January 25, 1999, to February 26, 1999. The subjects for the test were 160 patients with cancer and 185 healthy persons. analysis, item analysis and multitrait-multimethod method to analyze validity. The findings are as follows : 1) The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for internal consistency was .92 for the total 38 items and .79, .82, .85, for the three dimensions in that order. 2) The item analysis was based on the corrected item to total correlation coefficient( .30 or more) and information about the alpha estimate if this item was dropped from the scale. 3) As a result of the initial factor analysis using principal component analysis and varimax rotation, one item was deleted because of factor complexity (indiscriminate factor loadings). In the secondary factor analysis, 7 factors with eigenvalue of more than 1.0 were extracted and these factors explained 56 percents of the total variance. The seven factors were labeled as 'family relationship', 'emotional condition', 'physical discomfort', 'meaning and goal of life', 'contextual stimuli', 'change of body image', 'guilt feelings'. 4) The convergence effect between this instrument and the life satisfaction scale was identified and there was significant positive correlation(r= .52, p= .00). The discriminant validity between this instrument and the depression scale(CES-D) was tested and there was significant negative correlation(r= -.50, p= .00). The instrument for accessing the suffering of patients with cancer developed in this study was identified as a tool with a high degree of reliability and validity. In this sense, this tool can be effectively utilized for assessment in caring for patients with cancer.
This study aimed to establish a conceptual scheme of the quality of university and to develop a set of structured indicators for assessing the quality of university based on the result of comparative analysis of major approaches in foreign countries. Reviewing extensive literatures regarding the quality of higher education, a conceptual scheme of the quality of university, in which three representative approaches such as a goal-accomplishment approach, a customer-satisfaction approach, and a value-added approach were emphasized, was proposed and the quality of university was defined as a function of harmonization of input-process-output elements of universities. To develop indicators for assessing the quality of university, four types of approaches including university accreditation system, commercially-producted university ranking system, college student survey, and direct assessment of students' learning outcomes were reviewed. Finally thirteen sets of evaluation indicators out of six countries were comparatively analyzed. The analyses focused on the format, the content, and the primary concept of the quality in each instrument and a draft of the assessment indicators were structured. The draft of the assessment indicators were verified through a panel of professionals. The final indicators assessing the quality of university consist of three dimensions and seven areas. The input dimension comprised institutional goals, human resources, and physical resources. In the process dimension, curriculum and learning process areas were included. And, finally, the output dimension consists of educational outputs and research outputs. Based on the outcomes of the study, the recommendations were suggested for improving and utilizing the assessment indicators of the quality of university.
Constructed-response items are useful to estimate a higher-order thinking abilities such as sense of place, graphicacy, and geographical imaginations which are aimed by geography education. This study aims to identify the conception of the constructed-response items, to classify those feasible items in geography education, and to propose some comments and suggestions for development and application in Korea. The author tries to classify the constructed-response items by analyzing the NAEP items in the formal aspect and the aspect of cognitive dimension respectively. In the formal aspect, they are classified as 'question-standalone' type and 'material-presenting' type. In the aspect of cognitive dimension, they are classified into three types as 'knowledge-requirement', 'understanding-requirement', and 'applying-requirement'. Some comments and suggestions are as follows. First, it is necessary to develope the constructed-response items that coherent to both content and cognitive dimensions. Second, it is required for students who take an examination to use a great variety of graphics, photos, thematic maps related to geography. Third, we need to inquire the rubric, grade, process to scoring because they are vital to success of the constructed-response items.

Loss of posterior support may cause overloading and excessive wear of remaining teeth. Moreover, the extrusion of antagonistic teeth leads to the destruction of the occlusal plane. The loss of vertical dimension of occlusion (VDO) also emerges clinically, which may bring the loss of esthetic appearance and function. These patients who suffer from the loss of posterior support, often require vigorous periodontal treatments (osteotomy, crown lengthening) and extensive oral rehabilitation. Sixty three years old female patient visited for the prosthetic treatment of the posterior edentulous area. She had no other systematic disease and parafuctional habits for prosthetic treatment. Intraoral and radiographic examinations were done. The evaluation of VDO and vertical dimension of rest position were evaluated for proper prosthetic procedures and diagnostic wax up was done. As a result of diagnosis, VDO was increased by 2 mm considering the loss of VDO and space for the prosthetic treatment. After the pretreatments, initial preparation of teeth and provisionalization were carried out. Six weeks later of provisionalizaion, final preparation and impression was performed. Using the duralay resin copings, jaw relation was registered. The master cast was mounted and definitive restoration was fabricated. After the evaluation of esthetic and function, pick up impression for clinical remounting was done. Lucia jig was made for new jaw relation and occlusal adjustment on the articulator. Definitive restoration was delivered and the patient was periodically recalled for additional occlusal adjustment. From this case, the satisfactory functional and esthetic results through full mouth rehabilitation with increase vertical dimension were achieved.
Characteristics of minimum fluidization velocity and pressure fluctuations were investigated in an annular fluidized bed whose diameter was 0.102 m and 2.0 m in height. Effects of gas velocity, particle size and bed temperature on the minimum fluidization velocity and pressure fluctuations were examined. The values of minimum fluidization velocity obtained by means of three different methods were very similar each other. The correlation dimension could be a quantitative parameter for expression the resultant complex behavior of gas and solid mixture in the annular fluidized bed. The value of correlation dimension increased with increasing gas velocity, fluidized particle size and temperature in the bed. The minimum fluidization velocity could be determined by means of correlation dimension of pressure fluctuations as well as pressure drop in the bed and standard deviation of pressure fluctuations. The minimum fluidization velocity increased with increasing particle size but decreased with increasing bed temperature in annular fluidized beds. The minimum fluidization velocity was well correlated in therms of correlation dimension as well as operating variables within experimented conditions of this study.
The purpose of this study is to look qualitatively into how efficiently and reasonably a computer can learn themes related to the Nature of Science (NOS). In this regard, a corpus has been constructed focusing on literature (920 abstracts) related to NOS, and factors of the optimized Word2Vec (CBOW, Skip-gram) were confirmed. According to the four dimensions (Inquiry, Thinking, Knowledge and STS) of NOS, the comparative evaluation on the word-level word embedding was conducted. As a result of the study, according to the previous studies and the pre-evaluation on performance, the CBOW model was determined to be 200 for the dimension, five for the number of threads, ten for the minimum frequency, 100 for the number of repetition and one for the context range. And the Skip-gram model was determined to be 200 for the number of dimension, five for the number of threads, ten for the minimum frequency, 200 for the number of repetition and three for the context range. The Skip-gram had better performance in the dimension of Inquiry in terms of types of words with high similarity by model, which was checked by applying it to the four dimensions of NOS. In the dimensions of Thinking and Knowledge, there was no difference in the embedding performance of both models, but in case of words with high similarity for each model, they are sharing the name of a reciprocal domain so it seems that it is required to apply other models additionally in order to learn properly. It was evaluated that the dimension of STS also had the embedding performance that was not sufficient to look into comprehensive STS elements, while listing words related to solution of problems excessively. It is expected that overall implications on models available for science education and utilization of artificial intelligence could be given by making a computer learn themes related to NOS through this study.
We wanted to evaluate the usefulness of three-dimensional reconstructive images using computed tomography for rib fracture patients. The reconstruction used in clinical multi planar reformation(MPR), volume rendering technique(VRT), and image data using quantitative methods and qualitative methods were compared. Much more, the artifact shadow was minimized to reconstruct with 3D volumetric image by using an law data in the analysis of the reconstructive image and chest CT scan of the evaluation result fractures of the thoracic patient. And we could know that the fractures of the thoracic determination and three dimension volume image reconstruction time were reduced.
