In this work, a straightforward component design of a direct current (DC) relay equipped in electric vehicles is discussed. The work aims to provide and evaluate effective measures for reducing high-frequency sound from the DC relay carrying electric power. From the operation experiments for the relay, it is observed that noise is caused by the resonance from the forced vibration by the electromagnetic repulsive force originating at the area of electric contacts with a resonance frequency of around 710 Hz ~ 730 Hz. A finite element model for the relay was established to conduct vibration mode analysis, consisting of stationary and movable contacts and a contact spring. Vibration mode analysis indicates that in the resonance frequency, the movable contact with two-point contacts experiences rotational vibration mode. For the proposed relay with a three-point contact, vibration mode analyses give reasonable results of reducing noise at that frequency. Furthermore, for the fabricated relays with the three-point contact, similar results have been obtained. In conclusion, one can see that the proposed measures provide one of the feasible solutions to the reduction of relay noise.

Background: The tuberculin skin test (TST) is the standard tool to diagnose latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in mass screening. The aim of this study is to find an optimal cut-off point of the TST+ rate within tuberculosis (TB) contacts to predict the active TB development among adolescents in school TB outbreaks. Methods: The Korean National Health Insurance Review and Assessment database was used to identify active TB development in relation to the initial TST (cut-off, 10 mm). The 7,475 contacts in 89 schools were divided into two groups: Incident TB group (43 schools) and no incident TB group (46 schools). LTBI treatment was initiated in 607 of the 1,761 TST+ contacts. The association with active TB progression was examined at different cut-off points of the TST+ rate. Results: The mean duration of follow-up was $3.9{\pm}0.9years$. Thirty-three contacts developed active TB during the 4,504 person-years among the TST+ contacts without LTBI treatment (n=1,154). The average TST+ rate for the incident TB group (n=43) and no incident TB group (n=46) were 31.0% and 15.5%, respectively. The TST+ rate per group was related with TB progression (odds ratio [OR], 1.025; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001-1.050; p=0.037). Based on the TST+ rate per group, active TB was best predicted at TST+ ${\geq}$ 16% (OR, 3.11; 95% CI, 1.29-7.51; area under curve, 0.64). Conclusion: Sixteen percent of the TST+ rate per group within the same grade students can be suggested as an optimal cut-off to predict active TB development in middle and high schools TB outbreaks.
Load-carrying capacity of combined members consisted of inner and sleeved tubes subjected to axial compression was investigated in this paper. Considering the initial bending of the inner tube and perfect elasto-plasticity material model, structural behavior of the sleeved member was analyzed by theoretic deduction, which could be divided into three states: the elastic inner tube contacts the outer sleeved tube, only the inner tube becomes plastic and both the inner and outer sleeved tubes become plastic. Curves between axial compressive loads and lateral displacements of the middle sections of the inner tubes were obtained. Then four sleeved members were analyzed through FEM, and the numerical results were consistent with the theoretic formulas. Finally, experiments of full-scale sleeved members were performed. The results obtained from the theoretical analysis were verified against experimental results. The compressive load-lateral displacement curves from the theoretical analysis and the tests are similar and well indicate the point when the inner tube contacts the sleeved tube. Load-carrying capacity of the inner tube can be improved due to the sleeved tube. This paper provides theoretical basis for application of the sleeved members in reinforcement engineering.

This paper deals with a case for robotic hands to grasp the objects using inner link contact as well as fingertip contact. And the case is proved to be more efficient than the case of using only fingertip contact in terms of stability and uniform distribution of the contact forces. The general algorithm for the determination of the optimal ocntact force is developed for the soft finger contact as well as the point contact with friction. To show the validity of the proposed algorithm a numerical example is illustated by employing a robotic hand with three fingers each of which has four joints.
In many practical lubricated contacts such as a rough concentrated contact on the sliding of nominally flat surfaces, the fluid may be of molecular (nanometer) scale owing to the asperity interactions on the surfaces. Under this condition, there is insufficient lubricant on the concentrated contact spot to maintain a realistic continuum. Rheological behavior for this kind of concentrated contact has been studied extensively to know whether the application of viscous fluid model is appropriate. The interaction of two rough surfaces is simplified as perfectly flat-rough surfaces contact under certain conditions by "composite topography" and for a nanometer scale fluid film, three kinds of rheological fluid behavior are analyzed in elastohydrodynamic asperity point contact.t contact.

In this paper the method to determine tire optimal switching instants in order to reduce the transient surges during switching not relevant to the neutral treatment of shunt reactors is presented. This method consists of the following two steps. First, the instants of the voltage peaks between the contacts of each poles and the voltage magnitude as well as the moments of the current zero crosses were found out analytically. Next, the instants of the contact touches or separations were determined in consideration of the rate of decrease of dielectric strength or a circuit breaker and the variation of the its operating time. The results obtained from the EMTP(Electromagnetic Transient Program) analysis studies show that the making instants are established at the peak voltage of each three poles for any conditions of a neutral point and the possible upper limited values of inrush currents due to the variation of the mechanical operating time can be estimated.

Bending moments results from offset overloading of dental implant, which may cause stress concentrations to exceed the physiological capacity of cortical bone and lead to various kinds of mechanical failures. The purpose of this study was to compare the distributing pattern of stress on the finite element models with the different angulated placement of dental implant in mandibular posterior missing areas. The three kinds of finite element model, were designed according to 3 main configurations: Model 1(parallel typed placement of 2 fixtures), Model 2(15. distal angulated placement of one fixture on second molar area), Model 3(15. mesial angulated placement of one fixture on second molar area). The cemented crowns for mandibular first and second molars were made on the two fixtures (4mm 11.5). Three-dimensional finite element models by two fixtures were constructed with the components of the implant and surrounding bone. A 200N vertical static load were applied to the center of central fossa and the point 2mm apart from the center of central fossa on each model. The preprocessing, solving and postprocessing procedures were done by using FEM analysis software NISA/DISPLAY IV Version 10.0((Engineering Mechanics Research Corporation, USA). Von Mises stresses were evaluated and compared in the supporting bone, fixtures, and abutment. The results were as following : (1) Under the point loading at the central fossa, the direction of angulated fixture affected the stress pattern of implants. (2) Under the offset loading, the position of loading affected more on the stress concentration of implants compare to the angulated direction of implants. The results had a tendency to increase the stress on the supporting bone, fixture and screw under the offset loads when the placement angulation of implant fixture is placed toward mesial or distal direction. In designing of the occlusal scheme for angulated placement, placing the occlusal contacts axially during chewing appears to have advantages in a biomechanical viewpoint.

In modular fixturing systems, a given part or a subassembly is fixed by placing fixture elements such as locators and clamps adequately on a plate with a lattice of holes. It is known that the minimal number of point contacts to restrict translational and rotational motions on a plane is four and the type of three locators and a clamp(3L/1C) is the minimal future. Brost and Goldberg developed the complete algorithm to automatically synthesize 3L/1C types of fixtures which satisfy the condition of form closure. Due to the nature of the fixture, the clearance between the fixture and the part is extremely small. It is hard to load the part repeatedly and accurately for human as well as for robot. However the condition of loadability has not been taken into account in the B&G algorithm. In this paper, a new method to decide a given fixture to be loadable by using configuration space is proposed. A method to plan for a part to be loaded by using compliance safely even in the presence of control and sensing uncertainty is proposed is well.
