  • This paper focuses on three-dimensional measurement system of micro balls on micro Ball-Grid-Array(BGA) packages in-line. Most of visual inspection system still suffers from sophisticate reflection characteristics of micro balls. For accurate shape measurement of them, a specially designed visual sensor system is proposed under the sensing principle of phase shifting moire interferometry. The system consists of a pattern projection system with four projection subsystems and an imaging system. In the projection system, four subsystems have spatially different projection directions to make target objects experience the pattern illuminations with different incident directions. For the phase shifting, each grating pattern of subsystem is regularly moved by PZT actuator. To remove specular noise and shadow area of BGA balls efficiently, a compact multiple-pattern projection and imaging system is implemented and tested. Especially, a sensor fusion algorithm to integrate four information sets, acquired from multiple projections, into one is proposed with the basis of Bayesian sensor fusion theory. To see how the proposed system works, a series of experiments is performed and the results are analyzed in detail.

  • The guide-ways of precision machine tools are one of important element of machine tools. It has usually a pair of surfaces for constraint of one direction with bearing. In the case of precision machine tools, non-contact bearing such as hydrostatic bearing and aerostatic bearing is adopted usually. In this case, profiles of rails has effect on straightness and the clearance of bearing has effect on stiffness of guide way, which changes to higher if clearance changes to smaller. The clearance is varied along moving table according to relative distance of pair of rails. The relative distance of pair of rail can be divided by three properties. First and second properties are straightness of each pair of rail and bearing pad. And, third is parallelism about pair of rails and pairs of bearing pad. There are several methods for measuring straightness of each surface such as reversal method, sequential two point method, and way straightness. These straightness measuring methods are always acquiring deviation of profile from eliminating linear fitted inclined line and don't have the information of parallelism. Therefore, to get the small clearance for high stiffness, the straightness of rail and bearing pad and parallelism about pair of rails and pair of bearing pads are measured for correction such as regrinding, reassembling and lapping. In this research, new and easy method for measuring parallelism of pair of rails is suggested. Two displacement probe and sensor stage, which is carry on the displacement sensor, are needed. The simulation and experiment was accomplished about pair of horizontal guide way to confirm the measurement of parallelism. And, the third probe is added to measure the straightness of each rails by sequential two point method. From the estimation of combined these two methods, it is confirmed that the profiles of a pairs of rails can be measured.

  • Four programs, i.e. TRMM, ADEOS2, ASTER, and ALOS are going on in Japanese Earth Observation programs. TRMM and ASTER are operating well, and TRMM operation will be continued to 2009. ADEOS2 was failed, but AMSR-E on Aqua is operating. ALOS (Advanced Land Observing Satellite) was successfully launched on $24^{th}$ Jan. 2006. ALOS carries three instruments, i.e., PRISM (Panchromatic Remote Sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping), AVNIR-2 (Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer), and PALSAR (Phased Array L band Synthetic Aperture Radar). PRISM is a 3 line panchromatic push broom scanner with 2.5m IFOV. AVNIR-2 is a 4 channel multi spectral scanner with 10m IFOV. PALSAR is a full polarimetric active phased array SAR. PALSAR has many observation modes including full polarimetric mode and scan SAR mode. After the unfortunate accident of ADEOS2, JAXA still have plans of Earth observation programs. Next generation satellites will be launched in 2008-2012 timeframe. They are GOSAT (Greenhouse Gas Observation Satellite), GCOM-W and GCOM-C (ADEOS-2 follow on), and GPM (Global Precipitation Mission) core satellite. GOSAT will carry 2 instruments, i.e. a green house gas sensor and a cloud/aerosol imager. The main sensor is a Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS) and covers 0.76 to 15 ${\mu}m$ region with 0.2 to 0.5 $cm^{-1}$ resolution. GPM is a joint project with NASA and will carry two instruments. JAXA will develop DPR (Dual frequency Precipitation Radar) which is a follow on of PR on TRMM. Another project is EarthCare. It is a joint project with ESA and JAXA is going to provide CPR (Cloud Profiling Radar). Discussions on future Earth Observation programs have been started including discussions on ALOS F/O.

  • We propose an effective ToA-based localization method considering accuracy in indoor environments. The purpose of the localization system is to estimate the coordinates of the geographic location of target device. In indoor environments, accurately estimating the location of a target device is not easy due to various errors. The accuracy of wireless localization is influenced by NLOS errors. ToA-based localization measures the location of a target device using the distances between a mobile device and three or more base stations. However, each of the NLOS errors along a distance estimated from a target device to a base station is different because of dissimilar obstacles. To accurately estimate the target's location, an optimized localization process is needed in indoor environments. In this paper, effective ToA-based localization method process is proposed for improving accuracy in wireless sensor networks. Performance evaluations are presented, and the experimental localization system results are proved through comparisons of various localization methods with the proposed methods.

  • TDI CCD sensors are being used for most of the electro-optical camera mounted on the low earth orbit satellite to meet high performance requirements such as SNR and MTF. However, the CMOS sensors which have a lot of implementation advantages over the CCD, are being upgraded to have the TDI function. A few methods for improving the issue of motion blur which is apparent in the CMOS sensor than the CCD sensor, are being introduced. Each pixel can be divided into a few sub-pixels to be read more than once as is the same case with three or four phased CCDs. The fill factor can be reduced intentionally or even a kind of mask can also be implemented at the edge of pixels to reduce the blur. The motion blur can also be reduced in the TDI CMOS sensor by reducing the integration time from the full line scan time. Because the integration time can be controlled easily by the versatile control electronics, one of two performance parameters, MTF and SNR, can be concentrated dynamically depending on the aim of target imaging. MATLAB simulation has been performed and the results are presented in this paper. The goal of the simulation is to compare dynamic MTFs affected by the different methods for reducing the motion blur in the TDI CMOS sensor.

  • There are two methods to fabricate the readout electronic to a large-area CMOS image sensor (LACIS). One is to design and manufacture the sensor part and signal processing electronics in a single chip and the other is to integrate both parts with bump bonding or wire bonding after manufacturing both parts separately. The latter method has an advantage of the high yield because the optimized and specialized fabrication process can be chosen in designing and manufacturing each part. In this paper, LACIS chip, that is optimized design for the latter method of fabrication, is presented. The LACIS chip consists of a 3-TR pixel photodiode array, row driver (or called as a gate driver) circuit, and bonding pads to the external readout ICs. Among 4 types of the photodiode structure available in a standard CMOS process, $N_{photo}/P_{epi}$ type photodiode showed the highest quantum efficiency in the simulation study, though it requires one additional mask to control the doping concentration of $N_{photo}$ layer. The optimized channel widths and lengths of 3 pixel transistors are also determined by simulation. The select transistor is not significantly affected by channel length and width. But source follower transistor is strongly influenced by length and width. In row driver, to reduce signal time delay by high capacitance at output node, three stage inverter drivers are used. And channel width of the inverter driver increases gradually in each step. The sensor has very long metal wire that is about 170 mm. The repeater consisted of inverters is applied proper amount of pixel rows. It can help to reduce the long metal-line delay.

  • We describe a method for detecting slope instability in flume tests using pore pressure and water content data in conjunction with a statistical control chart analysis. Specifically, we conducted univariate statistical analysis on x-MR control chart data (pore pressure and water content) collected at several points along the flume slope, which we separated into three parts: upper, middle, and lower. To assess our results in the context of landslide forecasting and warning systems, we applied control limit lines at $1{\sigma}$, $2{\sigma}$, and $3{\sigma}$ levels of uncertainty. In doing so, we observed that dispersion time varies depending on the control limit line used. Moreover, the detection of instabilities is highly dependent on the position and type of sensor. Our findings indicate that different characteristics of the data on various factors predict slope failure differently and these characteristics can be identified by univariate statistical analysis. Therefore, we suggest that a univariate statistical approach is an effective method for the early detection of slope instability.

  • The existing mobile antenna networks in the military use have been operated by the manual pointing between two antennas. The work presented here describes the study of ATPC(Automatic Tracking and Pointing Control) system between facing antennas and the related tracking and pointing performances. This system is able to automatically track the maximum RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) value from the source's RF(Radio Frequency) signal and then control for maintaining the LOS(Line of Sight) between two antennas. The system has three major units; the driving unit consisting of motors, harmonic drives and encoders, the sensor unit with a GPS(Global Positioning System) and AHRS(Attitude and Heading Reference System) and the control unit regulating all the tracking and pointing events. By using PI(Proportional and Integral) controller, this system is able to properly track and point the other antenna under the external disturbance like the wind load. Both the simulation and the experimental works have been successively carried out to prove the performances of the system.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) for a distribution board that can monitor the leakage current of a load distribution line in real time. The developed distribution board was fabricated by applying IEC 61439-1. It consists of the distribution board and an alarm device. The work process for making the distribution board was compliant with the KEMC (Korea Electrical Manufacturers Cooperative) regulations. And the AC distribution board range is 1,000 V. In addition, the voltage in DC is less than 1500 V. The distribution board receives a 3-phases and 4-wires power supply system and can supply power to the load of a maximum of 32 single or three phase distribution circuits. Also, leakage current measured on the power distribution board was used by sensors installed. The SOP of the developed distribution board consists of the installation standards for the short circuit alarm device and sensor, the surge protection device, switches and indication lamps, and other devices. The operation procedure was prepared so that each manufacturing step of the distribution board must be confirmed by the persons in charge of preparation, production, quality control and approval before moving forward to the next step.
