This paper proposes a method for measurement three-dimensional trajectories of bubbles generated around a swimmer's arms from stereo high-speed camera videos. This method is based on two techniques: two-dimensional trajectory estimation in single-camera images and trajectory pair matching in stereo-camera images. The two-dimensional trajectory is estimated by block matching using similarity of bubble shape and probability of bubble displacement. The trajectory matching is achieved by a consistensy test using epipolar constraint in multiple frames. The experimental results in two-dimensional trajectory estimation showed the estimation accuracy of 47% solely by the general optical flow estimation, whereas 71% taking the bubble displacement into consideration. This concludes bubble displacement is an efficient aspect in this estimation. In three-dimensional trajectory estimation, bubbles were visually captured moving along the flow generated by an arm; which means an efficient material for swimmers to swim faster.
Three dimensional shape measurement techniques are widely needed in industries for product quality monitoring and control. X-ray imaging method is a promising technology to achieve three-dimensional Information, both the surface and inner structure of an object, since it can overcome the limitations of conventional visual or optical methods such as an occlusion problem or surface reflection properties. In this paper, we propose three dimensional volume reconstruction method based on x-ray stereo imaging technology. Here, the stereo images of an object from two different views are taken by changing the object pose rather than moving imaging plane as in conventional stereo vision method. We propose a series of image processing techniques to extract the features efficiently from x-ray images, where the occluded features in case of normal camera vision could be found ...
High-density directional display provides natural three-dimensional images. A large number of directional images are displayed in different horizontal directions with directional rays. There are two different types of display configurations. One is the projection-type and the other is the thin-type. The 64-directional and 128-directional displays using the projection-type configuration and the 72-directional display using the thin-type configuration are presented. The human responses are also shown.

Virtual holography is a methodology of synthesizing apparent three-dimensional images from two-dimensional photographs. Since the input is photographic images of real objects, the degree of realism exceeds that offered by any computer-aided design software. The three-dimensional appearance is given in real-time by images from arbitrary viewing directions. If infinitely many photographs were taken and pasted together, virtual holography would have been trivial. But, the (infinite) storage requirement would prohibit such an attempt.
In this paper, we propose a series of calibrations f3r the x-ray three dimensional imaging system. In the developed x-ray system, a three dimensional inner and outer shape of an object can be reconstructed out of two dimensional transmitted x-ray image set, which are acquired by projecting x-ray to the object from different views. To achieve this, a reconstruction algorithm which estimates and updates the three dimensional volume from x-ray images is developed. The algorithm is named as uniform and simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique(USART) which is an iterative method estimating a 3D volume based on its projected images. In this method, it is assumed that the imaging conditions that are the relative positions between the x-ray sources, object and the image planes are blown. Practically it is not easy to know the three dimensional coordinate of the components of the system, since the x-ray is not visible and the image distortions are present due to the optical components in the system. In this paper, methods of correcting image distortions are present firstly. Then the coordinates of the x-ray systems are calibrated from the x-ray images of the grid pattern. Some experimental results on these calibrations are present and discussed.

In this paper, we propose a method of image-based three-dimensional modeling for realistic facial expression. In the proposed method, real human facial images are used to deform a generic three-dimensional mesh model and the deformed model is animated to generate facial expression animation. First, we take several pictures of the same person from several view angles. Then we project a three-dimensional face model onto the plane of each facial image and match the projected model with each image. The results are combined to generate a deformed three-dimensional model. We use the feature-based image metamorphosis to match the projected models with images. We then create a synthetic image from the two-dimensional images of a specific person's face. This synthetic image is texture-mapped to the cylindrical projection of the three-dimensional model. We also propose a muscle-based animation technique to generate realistic facial expression animations. This method facilitates the control of the animation. lastly, we show the animation results of the six represenative facial expressions.
Purpose: This study aimed to develop a deep learning architecture combining two task models to generate synthetic computed tomography (sCT) images from low-tesla magnetic resonance (MR) images to improve metallic marker visibility. Methods: Twenty-three patients with cervical cancer treated with intracavitary radiotherapy (ICR) were retrospectively enrolled, and images were acquired using both a computed tomography (CT) scanner and a low-tesla MR machine. The CT images were aligned to the corresponding MR images using a deformable registration, and the metallic dummy source markers were delineated using threshold-based segmentation followed by manual modification. The deformed CT (dCT), MR, and segmentation mask pairs were used for training and testing. The sCT generation model has a cascaded three-dimensional (3D) U-Net-based architecture that converts MR images to CT images and segments the metallic marker. The performance of the model was evaluated with intensity-based comparison metrics. Results: The proposed model with segmentation loss outperformed the 3D U-Net in terms of errors between the sCT and dCT. The structural similarity score difference was not significant. Conclusions: Our study shows the two-task-based deep learning models for generating the sCT images using low-tesla MR images for 3D ICR. This approach will be useful to the MR-only workflow in high-dose-rate brachytherapy.
Kojima Lake in Okayama prefecture is a freshing reservoir constructed adjacent to the oldest reclaimed land in Japan. This lake has a serious water quality problem because two urban rivers are flowing into it. In the present study, unsupervised classification was performed at intervals of several years using Landsat MSS data in the past 15 years. After geometric correction of these data, MSS data corresponding geographically to the field observation data were extracted and subjected to the multivariate analysis. Water quality distribution in the lake was estimated using the regression equation obtained as a result. In addition, two - dimensional and three-dimensional numerical simulations were performed and compared with the distribution obtained from the satellite images. Behavior of the reservoir flows is complicated and water quality distribution varies greatly with the flows. Here, I report the results of analysis on three factors, field observation, numerical simulation and satellite images.

Inspection and shape measurement of three-dimensional objects are widely needed in industries for quality monitoring and control. A number of visual or optical technologies have been successfully applied to measure three-dimensional surfaces. However, those conventional visual or optical methods have inherent shortcomings such as occlusion and variant surface reflection. X-ray vision system can be a good solution to these conventional problems, since we can extract the volume information including both the surface geometry and the inner structure of any objects. In the x-ray system, the surface condition of an object, whether it is lambertian or specular, does not affect the inherent characteristics of its x-ray images. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional x-ray imaging method to reconstruct a three dimensional structure of an object out of two dimensional x-ray image sets. To achieve this by the proposed method, two or more x-ray images projected from different views are needed. Once these images are acquired, the simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique(SART) is usually utilized. Since the existing SART algorithms have several shortcomings such as low performance in convergence and different convergence within the reconstruction volume of interest, an advanced SART algorithm named as USART(uniform SART) is proposed to avoid such shortcomings and improve the reconstruction performance. Because, each voxel within the volume is equally weighted to update instantaneous value of its internal density, it can achieve uniform convergence property of the reconstructed volume. The algorithm is simulated on various shapes of objects such as a pyramid, a hemisphere and a BGA model. Based on simulation results the performance of the proposed method is compared with that of the conventional SART method.
The educational benefits and potential of XR as a new medium are well recognized. However, there are still limitations in understanding the specific effects of XR compared to the more widely utilized representation of images on computer monitors. This study therefore aims to demonstrate the differences in effectiveness between the two technologies and to draw implications from a cognitive comparison of three-dimensional objects represented on a flat surface and virtually. The study was conducted a quantitative research method with an experiment involving two independent groups, and the results were tested using regression analysis. The results showed that for low-level, two-dimensional objects, the computer monitor method may be more effective, but above a certain level of complexity, the effectiveness of learning through the monitor tends to decrease rapidly. On the other hand, the group that used extended reality technology showed relatively high comprehension compared to the monitor group even as the complexity increased, and in particular, unlike the monitor group's rapidly decreasing comprehension level, the extended reality technology group showed a trend of decreasing comprehension with the level of complexity, suggesting the potential for compatibility and predictability in the use of technology.
