Frequency equation for clamped-free circular cylindrical thin shell is derived by the application of Rayleigh-Ritz method using the Sanders shell equation. The cubic frequency equation is solved for each axial and circumferential mode number. Integration of the beam characteristic funcitions was performed via Mathematica which results in more accurate integration of the beam functions that affect the accuracy of the frequency. The natural frequencies from this calculation are compared with existing results. It shows that this calculation predicts natural frequencies closer to the test results than existing results.

In this paper, we propose a GPU-based method for real-time processing of dynamic re-meshing required for tearing cloth. Thin shell materials are used in various fields such as physics-based simulation/animation, games, and virtual reality. Tearing the fabric requires dynamically updating the geometry and connectivity, making the process complex and computationally intensive. This process needs to be fast, especially when dealing with interactive content. Most methods perform re-meshing through low-resolution simulations to maintain real-time, or rely on an already segmented pattern, which is not considered dynamic re-meshing, and the quality of the torn pattern is low. In this paper, we propose a new GPU-optimized dynamic re-meshing algorithm that enables real-time processing of high-resolution fabric tears. The method proposed in this paper can be used for virtual surgical simulation and physics-based modeling in games and virtual environments that require real-time, as it allows dynamic re-meshing rather than pre-split meshes.
The pressure of the mold flux acting on the meniscus shell was investigated through the coupling analysis of heat transfer in the mold and fluid flow in the flux caused by the mold oscillation. Finite element method was employed to solve the conservation equation associated with appropriate boundary conditions. As reported by previous workers, the axial pressure is positive on the negative strip time and negative on the positive strip time. A maximum pressure is predicted toward the top of the meniscus shell which has the thin shell arid a maximum value is in proportion to the relative mold oscillation velocity. The relative mold oscillation velocity was changed by the effect of meniscus level fluctuation. Therefore the pressure of the mold flux acting on the meniscus shell was different each cycle of the mold oscillation due to the irregularity of relative mold oscillation velocity.

The shell waste biomineralization process has known a tremendous metamorphosis and also the nanostructure with the identification of matrix proteins in oyster shells. However, proteins are represented in minor shell components and they are the major macromolecules that control biocrystal synthesis. Aragonite and calcite were derived from molluscan shells and evaluated the source of carbonate minerals and it helps for the formation of limestone. The oyster shell wastes are large and massive. The paleoecological study of oyster beds has discovered a near-shore and thin Upper Rudeis formation with storm influence during the accumulation of oysters with highly altered by disarticulation, bioerosion, and encrustation. It is possible even in the Paleozoic mollusks provided sufficient carbonate entirely to the source of microcrystalline of limestone. The present review is to discuss paleoecologically a number of oyster shell beds accumulated and sediment to form the different types of limestone during the Middle Miocene time.

A three-dimensional (3-D) method of analysis is presented for determining the free vibration frequencies and mode shapes of thick, complete (not truncated) conical shells of revolution, Unlike conventional shell theories, which are mathematically two-dimensional (2-D). the present method is based upon the 3-D dynamic equations of elasticity. Displacement components $u_{r},\;u_{z},\;and\;u_{\theta}$ in the radial, axial, and circumferential directions, respectively, are taken to be sinusoidal in time, periodic in , and algebraic polynomials in the r and z directions. Potential (strain) and kinetic energies of the conical shells are formulated, the Ritz method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem, thus yielding upper bound values of the frequencies by minimizing the frequencies. As the degree of the polynomials is increased, frequencies converge to the exact values. Convergence to four-digit exactitude is demonstrated for the first five frequencies of theconical shells. Novel numerical results are presented for thick, complete conical shells of revolution based upon the 3-D theory. Comparisons are also made between the frequencies from the present 3-D Ritz method and a 2-D thin shell theory.

Organic solar cell was fabricated using one-pot deposition of a mixture of NiO nanoparticles, P3HT and PCBM. In the presence of NiO, the photovoltaic performance was slightly increased comparing to that of the device without NiO. When $TiO_2$ thin films with a thickness of 2~3 nm was prepared on NiO nanoparticles using atomic layer deposition, the power conversion efficiency was increased by a factor 2.5 with respect to that with bare NiO. Moreover, breakdown voltage of the film consisting of NiO, P3HT, and PCBM on indium tin oxide was increased by more than 1 V in the presence of $TiO_2$-shell on NiO nanoparticles. It is evidenced that S atoms of P3HT can be oxidized on NiO surfaces, and $TiO_2$-shell on NiO nanoparticles. It is evidenced that S atoms of P3HT can be oxidzed on NiO surfaces, and $TiO_2$ shell heavily reduced oxidation of S at oxide/P3HT interfaces. Oxidized S atoms can most likely act as carrier generation sites and recombination centers within the depletion region, decreasing breakdown voltage and performance of organic solar cells. Our result shows that fabrication of various core-shell nanostruecutres of oxides by atomic layer deposition with controlled film thickness can be of potential importance for fabricating highly efficient organic solar cells.

QDs-LEDs(quantum dot light emitting device) should contain well-organized arrays of QDs on an electron transport layer. Thin films of CdSe/ZnS core-shell QDs were successfully fabricated on $TiO_2$ substrates by using PDMS stamp and micro contact printing method. 2-Carboxyethylphosphonic acid(CAPO) and 1,6-hexanedithiol(HDT) were employed as molecular linkers in assembling CdSe/ZnS core-shell QDs with high-density and uniform array. The CAPO increased the binding strength between the QDs and the substrates, and the HDT induced the strong inter-particle attractions of assembled QDs. The assembling properties of QDs thin films were characterized by SEM, AFM, optical microscope and photoluminescence spectroscope(PL).
This paper proposes a real-time simulation technique for thin shells undergoing large deformation. Shells are thin objects such as leaves and papers that can be abstracted as 2D structures. Development of a satisfactory physical model that runs in real-time but produces visually convincing animation of thin shells has been remaining a challenge in computer graphics. Rather than resorting to shell theory which involves the most complex formulations in continuum mechanics, we adopt the energy functions from the discrete shells proposed by Grinspun et al. For real-time integration of the governing equation, we develop a modal warping technique for shells. This new simulation framework results from making extensions to the original modal warping technique which was developed for the simulation of 3D solids. We report experimental results, which show that the proposed method runs in real-time even for large meshes, and that it can simulate large bending and/or twisting deformations with acceptable realism.
An environmentally friendly water-based pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) was designed in an attempt to replace the solvent-based adhesive for dry lamination used in flexible food packaging films. Instead of using a low molecular weight surfactant, which may have variable material properties, a high molecular weight dispersant was used for emulsification. A polymeric nano-dispersant (PND) was synthesized using solution polymerization, and it was used as a micelle seed in the surfactant, resulting in the synthesis of a core/shell grafted acrylic adhesive. The shell and core exhibited different $T_g$ values, so that the initial adhesion strength and holding power were complemented by the film's flexibility, which is required to provide good adhesion of thin films. Results showed that the PSA designed in this study using the PND instead of traditional low molecular weight surfactant had adhesive properties applicable to the flexible packaging with appropriate tack.
Thin-walled adaptive structures render a large and important group of adaptive structures. Typical material system used for them is a composite laminate that includes piezoelectric material based sensors and actuators. The piezoelectric active elements are in the form of thin patches bonded onto or embedded into the structure. Among different types of patches, the paper considers those polarized in the thickness direction. The finite element method (FEM) imposed itself as an essential technical support for the needs of structural design. This paper gives a brief description of a developed shell type finite element for active/adaptive thin-walled structures and the element is, furthermore, used as a tool to consider the aspect of mesh distortion over the surface of actuators and sensors. The aspect is of significance for simulation of behavior of adaptive structures and implementation of control algorithms.
