Silica($SiO_2$) thin film was synthesized by a low pressure metal organic chemical vapor deposition(LPMOCVD) using organic silane compound. Triethyl orthosilicate was used as a source material. Operation pressure was 1~100 torr at outlet of the reactor and deposition temperature was $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$. The experimental results showed that the high reaction temperature and high source gas concentration led to higher growth rate of $SiO_2$. The step coverage of films on micro-scale trenches was fairly good, which resulted from the phenomena that the condensed oligomers flow into the trenches. We estimated a reaction path that the source gas polymerizes and produces oligomers (dimer, trimer, tetramer, etc.), which diffuse and condense on the solid surface. The chemical species in the gas phase at the outlet of reactor tube were analyzed by quadrapole mass spectrometer. The peaks, assigned to be monomer, dimer of source gas and geavier molecules, were observed at 650 or $700^{\circ}C$. At higher temperature($900^{\circ}C$), the peaks of the heavy molecules disappeared, because almost all the source gas and intermediate(polymerized oligomer) molecules were oxidized or condensed on colder tube wall.
The ultrasonic guided wave propagates along with the given structure's wall direction. Because of this specific character, the ultrasonic guided waves arc used in many other fields. Especially, it can be readily utilized for nondestructive inspection of various structures that are made up of gas pipes, heat exchanger tubes, and thin plates. Further, the guided wave technology can be readily utilized when inspecting pipes or thin plates which pose high risk of the accident but for which the nondestructive inspection itself is impossible because it is difficult to get to them since they are coated or buried underground. In the other hand, conventional ultrasonic testing such as thickness gauging uses bulk waves and only tests the region of structure immediately below the transducer. As a result of the application about inlet and outlet cooling water line using guided wave test, we conformed that the overall corrosions were in the lower side of the 304.8 mm inlet valve and these corrosions were engaged in not locally but through the lower side of the valve line. In the near future, we can expect that the detectable defect size is smaller than before along with the development of the sensing technology.

This study was performed to predict the shape of polymer extrusion product and to find the cause of defective products Experiments was performed to extrude the complex profile shape using PC/ABS composite resin with new profile die and cooling die. A finite element analysis for the Polymer Extrusion process considering the heat transfer and thermal deformation was also performed, and the result was compared with the experimental data. It is found that the predicted profile shape in F. E. M was similar to the experimental result and the thickness of extruded product was thin when the velocity of profile die outlet was slow than the velocity of production (2m/min).

The paper considers acoustic analysis of the shock absorbing muffler within a rotary compressor. The internal space of the compressor is modelled as a combination of cavities and pipes. A simple one-dimensional impedance approach is used fur the acoustic analysis in the low frequency range, with ignoring the effects of gas flow and temperature gradients that are closely related to power efficiency of the compressor. Using the similarity between the vibration isolator and the shock absorbing muffler, the source strength transmissibility is newly proposed as a performance measure of the muffler and its validity is supported by power analysis. Some Important muffler design rules obtained are; (1) a muffler cavity and its opening throat should be used as a pair, (2) a long thin throat is desirable for high frequency noise isolation, (3) a large muffler cavity should be used with care since it shortens the working frequency range of the muffler. The rules were applied to redesign a compressor muffler currently in use, and a significant improvement was achieved by simply attaching a throat to the outlet holes of the muffler.
In liquid composite molding (LCM), composites are produced by impregnation of a dry preform with liquid resin. The resin flow through the preform is usually described by Darcy's law and the permeability tensor must be obtained for filling analysis. While the resin flow in the thickness direction can be neglected for thin parts, the resin flow in the transverse direction is important for thicker parts. However, the transverse permeability of the preform has not been investigated frequently. In this study, the transverse permeability was measured experimentally for five different fiber preforms. In order to verify the experimental results, the measured transverse permeability was compared with numerical results. Five different fiber mats were used in this study: glass fiber woven fabric, aramid fiber woven fabric, glass fiber random mat, glass fiber braided preform, and glass/aramid hybrid braided preform. The anisotropic braided preforms were manufactured by using a three dimensional braiding machine. The pressure was measured at the inlet and outlet positions with pressure transducers.

For the automation of a evaporation process, computer based evaporation system was built and applied to acquisition of the process variables with an centrifugal thin film evaporator(Centri-Therm, CT-1B). Controls of the process conditions were performed by computer system for pressure, feeding rate, steam, evaporation temperature and flow rate of cooling water. The data acquisitions were also performed by computer system for the changes in the concentration and temperature readings for steam, evaporation and cooling water at the both inlet and outlet. The control and the acquisition variables were collected through the interface device and analyzed by programs using the PASCAL language. To control the feeding rate during the concentration process, inverter was used. The cooling water for the vapor condensation was controlled by the valve controller and should be supplied with the flow rate of 125 kg/h. The maximum vapor condensation rate was 41.7kg/h at the feeding rate of 125 kg/h.
With an attempt to investigate the correlation between the internal pressure distribution of slit nozzle and the thickness uniformity of slot-coated thin films, we have performed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of slit nozzles and slot coating of high-viscosity (4,800 cPs) polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) using a gantry slot-die coater. We have calculated the coefficient of variation (CV) to quantify the pressure and velocity distributions inside the slit nozzle and the thickness non-uniformity of slot-coated PDMS films. The pressure distribution inside the cavity and the velocity distribution at the outlet are analyzed by varying the shim thickness and flow rate. We have shown that the cavity pressure uniformity and film thickness uniformity are enhanced by reducing the shim thickness. It is addressed that the CV value of the cavity pressure that can ensure the thickness non-uniformity of less than 5% is equal to and less than 1%, which is achievable with the shim thickness of 150 ㎛. It is also found that as the flow rate increases, the average cavity pressure is increased with the CV value of the pressure unchanged and the maximum coating speed is increased. As the shim thickness is reduced, however, the maximum coating speed and flow rate decrease. The highly uniform PDMS films shows the tensile strain as high as 180%, which can be used as a stretchable substrate.

A regenerative evaporative cooler has been fabricated and tested for the evaluation of cooling performance. The regenerative evaporative cooler is a kind of indirect evaporative cooler comprised of multiple pairs of dry and wet channels. The air flowing through the dry channels is cooled without any change in the humidity and at the outlet of the dry channel a part of air is redirected to the wet channel where the evaporative cooling takes place. The regenerative evaporative cooler fabricated in this study consists of the multiple pairs of finned channels in counterflow arrangement. The fins and heat transfer plates were made of aluminum and brazed for good thermal connection. Thin porous layer coating was applied to the internal surface of the wet channel to improve surface wettability. The regenerative evaporative cooler was placed in a climate chamber and tested at various operation condition. The cooling performance is found greatly influenced by the evaporation water flow rate. To improve the cooling performance, the evaporation water flow rate needs to be minimized as far as the even distribution of the evaporation water is secured. At the inlet condition of $32^{\circ}C$ and 50%RH, the outlet temperature was measured at $22^{\circ}C$ which is well below the inlet wet-bulb temperature of $23.7^{\circ}C$.
Split-flow thin cell fractionation (SPLITT fractionation, SF) is a particle separation technique that allows continuous (and thus a preparative scale) separation into two subpopulations based on the particle size or the density. In SF, there are two basic performance parameters. One is the throughput (TP), which was defined as the amount of sample that can be processed in a unit time period. Another is the fractionation efficiency (FE), which was defined as the number % of particles that have the size predicted by theory. Full-feed depletion mode (FFD-SF) have only one inlet for the sample feed, and the channel is equipped with a flow stream splitter only at the outlet in SF mode. In conventional FFD-mode, it was difficult to extend channel due to splitter in channel. So, we use large scale splitter-less FFD-SF to increase TP from increase channel scale. In this study, a FFD-SF channel was developed for a large-scale fractionation, which has no flow stream splitters (‘splitter less’), and then was tested for optimum TP and FE by varying the sample concentration and the flow rates at the inlet and outlet of the channel. Polyurethane (PU) latex beads having two different size distribution (about 3~7 µm, and about 2~30 µm) were used for the test. The sample concentration was varied from 0.2 to 0.8% (wt/vol). The channel flow rate was varied from 70, 100, 120 and 160 mL/min. The fractionated particles were monitored by optical microscopy (OM). The sample recovery was determined by collecting the particles on a 0.1 µm membrane filter. Accumulation of relatively large micron sized particles in channel could be prevented by feeding carrier liquid. It was found that, in order to achieve effective TP, the concentration of sample should be at higher than 0.4%.

Experimental and analytical studies are presented to characterize the break-up mechanism and atomization processes of the intermittent- impinging-type nozzle. Gasoline jets passing through the circular nozzle with the outlet diameter of 0.4mm and the injection duration of 10ms are impinged on each other. The impingement of fuel jets forms a thin liquid sheet, and the break-up of the liquid sheet produces liquid ligaments and droplets subsequently. The shape of liquid sheets was visualized at various impinging velocities and angles using the planer laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) technique. Based on the Kelvin-Helmholtz wave instability theory, the break-up length of liquid sheets and the droplet diameter are obtained by the theoretical analysis of the sheet disintegration. The mean diameter of droplet is also estimated analytically using the liquid sheet thickness at the edge and the wavelength of the fastest growing wave. The present results indicate that the theoretical results are favorably agreed with the experimental results. The size of droplets decreases after the impingement as the impinging angle or the injection pressure increase. The increment of the injection pressure is more effective than the increment of the impinging angle to reduce the size of droplets.
