  • Recently, High Tensile Steel is adapt to thin plate on the steel structure and marine structure is used widely. It is possible for buckling happens great. Specially, Initial deflection of ship structure happens in place absence necessarily by heat processing of welding or cutting etc. This Initial Deflection is exerted negative impact when thin plate absence complicated nonlinear behaviour accompanied secondary buckling. As a result, must idealize initial deflection that occurrence is possible to endow stability and accuracy in the hull structure or marine structure and reflect in early structure design considering secondary buckling. Longi direction of compressive load interacts and analyzed finite element series analysis that apply various kinds initial deflection shape measured actually on occasion that is arranged simply supported condition in this research. • Recently, HT steel has been widely used in structure, and this enables to reduce the plate thickness. To use the HT steel effectively for a ship hull, the plate thickness becomes thin so that plate buckling may take place. Therefore, precise assessment of the behaviour of plat above primary buckling load is important. The plate under the load, that is called, secondary buckling load may undergo abrupt changes in wave form after primary buckling. This is very important when the collapse strength of the whole structures is considered. From this point of view, this paper discusses secondary buckling behaviour of thin plate under inplane compressive loading. A elastic large deflection analysis of plates with initial imperfection is performed assuming uniaxial compression, respectively, and the influence of secondary buckling is investigated. It is known that square plate is not influenced by non-symmetrical deflection coefficient but influenced by symmetrical deflection coefficient. Also, it has been found that rectangular plate($\alpha$=a/b) is influenced by all deflection coefficient, and the reduction of inplane stiffness of the plate after primary buckling is continued.

  • The High-tensile steel has been recognized as a promising concept for structural design of light weight transportation systems such as aircraft high speed trains and fast ships. Using the high-tensile steel has been widely used in ship structures, and this enables to reduce the plate thickness. Using the high-tensile steel effectively for a ship hull, the plate thickness becomes thin so that plate buckling may take place. Therefore, precise assessment of the behavior of plate above primary buckling load is important. In this study, examined closely secondary buckling behavior after initial buckling of thin plate structure which operated compressive load according to the various kinds of yield stress with simply supported boundary condition. Analysis method is F.E.M by commercial program(ANSYS V7.1) and complicated nonlinear behaviour can analyze using art-length method about secondary buckling.

  • Modern ultra-large container carriers can be exposed to the unprecedented springing excitation from ocean waves due to their relatively low torsional rigidity. Large deck opening on the deck of container carriers tends to cause warping distortion of hull structure under wave-induced excitation, eventually leading to the higher chance of resonance vibration between its torsional response and incoming waves. To handle this problem, a higher-order B-spline Rankine panel method and Vlasov-beam FE model was directly coupled in the time domain, and the coupled equation was solved by using an implicit iterative method. In order to capture the complicated behavior of thin-walled open section girder, a sophisticated beam-based finite element model was developed, which takes into account warping distortion and shear-on-wall effect. Then, the developed beam model was directly coupled with the time-domain Rankine panel method for hydrodynamic problem by using the fixed-point iteration method. The developed computational scheme was validated through the comparison with the frequency-domain solution on the container carrier model in linear springing regime.

  • Ship are typically thin-walled structures and consists of stiffened plate structure by purpose of required design load and weight reduction etc. Also, a hull structural characteristics are often used in structures with curvature at deck plating with camber, side shell plating at fore and aft parts and bilge circle parts, It have been believed that these structures can be modelled fundamentally by a part of cylinder. Structural component with curvature subjected to combined loading regimes and complex boundary conditions, which can potentially collapse due to buckling. Hence, for more rational and safe design of ship structures, it is crucial importance to better understand the interaction relationship of the buckling and ultimate strength for cylindrically curved plate under these load components. In this study, the ultimate strength characteristic of curved plate under combined load(lateral pressure load + axial compressive load) are investigated through using FEM series analysis with varying geometric panel properties.

  • Although a yacht sails operate with large displacement due to very thin thickness, many studies for flow around yacht sails have not considered the sail deformation. The sail deformation not only caused a change in the center of effect(CE) on the sail but also a change in the thrust of the sail. The change of the CE and thrust affects the center of lateral resistance(CLR) and side forces of the hull, and the balance of the yacht. These changes affect the motion of the yacht which changes the velocity of the yacht. Thus, when analyzing the flow around yacht sails, the sail deformation should be considered. In the present study, fluid-structure-interaction(FSI) analysis of a two dimensional section of yacht sails was performed to consider the effects of sail deformation on the lift and drag performance. FSI and moving mesh methods were studied. Computational methods were verified using benchmark test cases such as the flow around horizontal and vertical cantilever beams. Shape deformation, pressure distribution, lift forces and separation flow were compared for both rigid and deformable sail.

  • Large deck openings of ultra large container ships reduce their torsional stiffness considerably and hydroelastic analysis for reliable structural design becomes an imperative. In the early design stage the beam model coupled with 3D hydrodynamic model is a rational choice. The modal superposition method is ordinary used for solving this complex problem. The advanced thin-walled girder theory, with shear influence on both bending and torsion, is applied for calculation of dry natural modes. It is shown that relatively short engine room structure of large container ships behaves as the open hold structure with increased torsional stiffness due to deck effect. Warping discontinuity at the joint of the closed and open segments is compensated by induced distortion. The effective torsional stiffness parameters based on an energy balance approach are determined. Estimation of distortion of transverse bulkheads, as a result of torsion and warping, is given. The procedure is illustrated in the case of a ship-like pontoon and checked by 3D FEM analysis. The obtained results encourage incorporation of the modified beam model of the short engine room structure in general beam model of ship hull for the need of hydroelastic analysis, where only the first few natural modes are of interest.

  • Generally in order to reduce the steel weight of stiffened plate, stiffener spaces tend to be narrow and the plate gets thin. However, it will involve more fabrication cost because it can lead to the increase of welding length and the number of structural members. In the yard, the design which is able to reduce the total fabrication cost is needed, although it requires more steel weight. The purpose of this study is to find optimum stiffener spaces to minimize the fabrication cost for the cargo tank of LPG Carriers. Global optimization methods such as ES(Evolution Strategy) and GA(Genetic Algorithm) are introduced to find a global optimum solution and the sum of steel material cost and labor cost is selected as main objective function. Convergence degree of both methods in according to the size of searching population is examined and an efficient size is investigated. In order to verify the necessity of the optimum design based on the cost, minimum weight design and minimum cost design are carried out.

  • The determination of sound pressure radiated from periodic plate structures is fundamental in the estimation of noise level in aircraft fuselages or ship hull structures. As a robust approach to this problem, here a very general and comprehensive analytical model is developed for predicting the sound radiated by a vibrating plate stiffened by periodically spaced orthogonal symmetrical beams subjected to a sinusoidally time varying point load. In this these, we experiment with the numerical analysis using the space harmonic series and the SYSNOISE for measuring the vibration mode and character of response caused by sound radiation with adding the harmonic point force in the thin isotropic plate supported by the rectangular lattice reinforcement. We used the reinforcements, beams of open type section like the style of 'ㄷ' letter; the space of the beams were chosen to be 0.2m, 0.3m, 0.4m. We studied the behavior of sound pressure levels, analysis of vibration mode between support points, connection between frequency function and sound pressure levels, and connection between position function and sound pressure levels.
