  • LiNbO$_3$films were prepared by an rf-magnetron sputtering technique using sintered target containing potassium. The potassium was included to help to fabricate stoichiometric LiNbO$_3$film. Structural and electrical properties of thin films was investigated as a function of deposition condition. Optimum sputtering conditions were rf power of 100W, working pressure of 1m Torr and substrate temperature of 58$0^{\circ}C$. The thin film was grown to (012) preferred orientation. The dielectric constant of the thin film LiNbo$_3$ fabricated under optimum condition was 55 at 1MHz. Average grain size is about 200$\AA$ and roughness of the film is small enough to apply to optic devices.

  • Thin film coatings are commonly exploited to minimize wear and optimize the frictional behavior of various precision mechanical systems. The enhancement of thin film durability is directly related to the performance maximization of the system. Therefore, a fine approach to analyze the thin film wear behavior is required. Archard's equation is a representative and well-developed law that defines the wear coefficient, which is the probability of creating wear particles. A ploughing model is a commonly used model to determine the friction force during the abrasive contact. The equations demonstrate that the friction force and wear coefficient are inversely proportional to the hardness of the material. In this study, Archard's equation and ploughing models are modified with an effective hardness to minimize the gap between the experimental and numerical results. It is noted that the effective hardness is the hardness variation with respect to the penetration depth owing to the substrate effect. The nanoindentation method is utilized to characterize the effective hardness of Cu film. The wear coefficient value considering the effective hardness is more than three times higher than that without considering the effective hardness. The friction force predicted with the effective hardness agreed better with the results obtained directly from the friction force detecting sensor. This outcome is expected to improve the accuracy of friction and wear amount predictions.

  • Pd-doped SnO2 thin films for hydrogen gas sensing were fabricated by reactive fo magnetron sputtering and were studied on effects of film thickness and Pd doping content. Pd doping caused the optimum sensor operation temperature to reduce down to ~25$0^{\circ}C$ and also enhanced gas sensitivity, compared with undoped SnO2 film. Gas sensitivity depended on the film thickness. The sensitivity increased with decreasing the film thickness, showing maximum sensitivities at the thickness of 730$\AA$ and 300~400$\AA$ for the undoped SnO2 and the Pd-doped SnO2 film, respectively. Further decrease of the film thickness beyond these thickness ranges, however, resulted in the reduction of sensitivity again.

  • Polystyrene (PS) microspheres were used to good advantage as a template material to prepare macroporous $TiO_2$ thin films. This is enabled to run the thermal decomposition of the PS without the collapsing of the 3-D macroporous framework during the calcination step. $TiO_2$ thin films were deposited onto the colloidal templated substrates at room temperature by RF sputtering, and then samples were thermally treated at $450^{\circ}C$ for 40.min in air to remove the organic colloidal template and induce crystallization of the $TiO_2$ film. The macroporous $TiO_2$ thin film exhibited a quasi-ordered partially hexagonal close-packed structure. Burst holes, estimated to be formed during PS thermal decomposition, are seen as the hemisphere walls. the inner as well as the outer surfaces of the hollow hemispheres formed by the method of thermal decomposition can be easily accessed by the diffusing gas species. As a consequence, the active surface area interacting with the gas species is expected to be enlarged about by a factor of fourth as large as compared to that of a planar films. Also the thickness at neighboring hemisphere could be controlled a few nm thickness. If the acceptor density becomes as large that depletion width reaches those thickness, the device is in the pinch off-situation and a strong resistance change should be observed.

  • MI(Magneto-Impedance) sensor which is made by thin films has significantly high detecting sensitivity in weak magnetic field. It also has a merit to be able to build in the low power system. Its structure is simple, which makes it easier to prepare a miniature. In this study, its magnetic permeability and anisotropy field($H_{k}$) as a function of a thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb films with zero-magnetostriction and soft magnetic property are investigated. In order to make a uniaxial anisotropy, film was subjected to the post annealing in a static magnetic field with 1KOe intensity at 250, 300, and $320^{\circ}C$ respectively for 2 hours. Magnetic properties of film are measured by using a MH loop tracer. Its magnetic permeability of a film is measured over the frequency range 1 MHz to 750MHz. And, it was examined on the permeability and impedance to design the MI sensor which acts at 50MHz by thickening a CoZrNb film relatively, and fabricated the MI sensor which acts at the 50MHz.

Its structure is simple, which makes it easier to prepare a miniature. In this study, its magnetic permeability and anisotropy field$(H_k)$ as a function of a thickness of sputtered amorphous CoZrNb films with zero-magnetostriction and excellent soft magnetic property are investigated. In order to make a uniaxial anisotropy, film was subjected to the post annealing in a static magnetic field with 1KOe intensity at 250, 300, and $320^{\circ}C}$ respectively for 2 hours. Anisotropy field$(H_k)$ of film is measured by using a MH loop tracer. Its magnetic permeability of a film is measured over the frequency range from 1 MHz to 750MHz. It has shown that the magnetic permeability of amorphous CoZrNb film is decreased due to the skin effect with increasing a thickness of the CoZrNb film, and hence its driving frequency is lowered. And, it was examined on the permeability and impedance to fabricate the MI sensor which acts at a low frequency by thickening a CoZrNb film relatively.

  • In this study, specimens with nano-sized porous thin films were manufactured by injecting fluorescence solution into the pores. We intended to find out the difference of the fluorescence intensity in each region of the specimen through an experimental apparatus that makes a temperature field. Before conducting experiments, the optimized manufacturing conditions were determined by analysis of all parameters that influence the emission intensity, and the experiments were carried out with the specimens produced in the optimized conditions. Then, the calibration curves of the fluorescence intensity versus temperature were performed by taking the intensity distributions from the specimen in various temperature fields. The surfaces of specimens were coated with Rhodamine-B (Rh-B) fluorescent dye and measured based on the fluorescence intensity. Silica (SiO2) nanoporous structure with 1-um thickness was constructed on a cover glass, and fluorescence dye was absorbed into these porous thin films.

  • This paper presents direct ${\mu}c$-Si:H thin film growth on the glass substrates using RPCVD system (remote plasma chemical vapor deposition) in low temperature. Hydrogenated micro-crystalline silicon deposited by RPCVD system in low temperature is very useful material for photovoltaic devices, sensor applications, and TFTs (thin film transistors). Varying the deposition conditions such as substrate temperature, gas flow rate, reactive gas ratio $(SiH_4/H_2)$, total chamber pressure, and rf power, we deposited ${\mu}c$-Si:H thin films on the glass substrates (Corning glass 1737). And then we measured the structural and electrical properties of the films.

  • As the integrated circuit device shrinks to the smaller dimension, the chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) process was required for the global planarization of inter-metal dielectric(IMD) layer with free-defect. The effect of alternative commerical slurries pads, and post-CMP cleaning alternatives are discuess, with removal rate, scratch dentisty, surface roughness, dishing, erosion and particulate density used as performance metrics. we investigated the performance of $SnO_2$-CMP process using commonly used silica slurry, ceria slurry, tungsten slurry. This study shows removal rate and nonuniformity of $SnO_2$ thin film used to gas sensor by using Ceria, Silica, W-Slurry after CMP process. This study also shows the relation between partical size and CMP with partical size analysis of used slurry.

  • Analyzing electrical degradation of polycrystalline silicon transistor to applicable at several environment is very important issue. In this research, after fabricating p channel poly crystalline silicon TFT (thin film transistor) electrical characteristics were compare and analized that changed by gate bias with first measurement. As a result on and off current was reduced by variation of gate bias and especially re duce ratio of off current was reduced by $7.1{\times}10^1$. On/off current ratio, threshold voltage and electron mobility increased. Also, when channel length gets shorter on/off current ratio was increased more and thresh old voltage increased less. It was cause due to electron trap and de-trap to gate silicon oxide by variation of gate bias.
