  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) nanopowders were synthesized by coprecipitation and the sol-gel method to prepare a stable dispersion of ITO nano-colloid for antistatic coating of a display panel. The colloidal dispersions were prepared by attrition process with a vibratory milling apparatus using a suitable dispersant in organic solvent. The ITO coating solution was spin-coated on a glass panel followed by the deposition of partially hydrolyzed alkyl silicate as an over-coat layer. The double-layered coating films were characterized by measuring the sheet resistance and reflectance spectrum for antistatic and antireflective properties.

  • In Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) manufacturing, the organic over coat materials over coat materials for insulation layer of color filter with acryl ate was widely used. Therefore, we approach that the organic overcoat material can use to insulation layer for color filter and liquid crystal (LC) alignment layer in this research. The LC aligning capabilities was successful stuided for the first time. The organic overcoat layer and polymer layer was coated by spin-coating. In order to characterize the LC alignment, electric optic and residual DC and atomic force microscopy (AFM) image was used. The good LCD aligning capabilities treated on the organic overcoat thin film surfaces with ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ above ion beam energy density of 1200 eV can be achieved. Also the good LCD alignment capabilities treated polymer on surfaces with ion beam exposure of $45^{\circ}$ above ion beam energy density of 1800 eV can be achieved. Comparing electro-optical characteristics between the Polyimide (PI) and the overcoat, the resultant transmittance of the overcoat considerably matched that of the PI and the residual DC also exhibited similar features with the PI.

  • Even though stainless steel foil is not a highly efficient material for film-type solar cell, it has strong passivation capability without additional process. In this study, silicone resin was employed during a-Si:H thin film solar cell fabrication for the purpose of planarization and electrical insulation. In the first stage of process, silicone resin was coat onto the stainless steel (STS) using spin coater with thickness of $2{\sim}3{\mu}m$ and followed by aluminum deposition using ion beam application. Unexpectedly buckling was formed during aluminum deposition process. After subsequent fabrication processes, solar cell performance was evaluated. In voltage-current data, slight increase of cell performance was obtained and interpreted by the increase of light scattering.

  • Fabrications of antireflection structures on solar cell were investigated to trap the light and to improve quantum efficiency. Introductions of patterned substrate or textured layer for Si solar cell were performed to prevent reflectance and to increase the path length of incoming light. However, it is difficult to deposit conformally flat electrode on perpendicular plane. ZnO is II-VI compound semiconductor and well-known wide band-gap material. It has similar electrical and optical properties as ITO, but it is nontoxic and stable. In this study, Al-doped ZnO thin films are deposited as transparent electrode by atomic layer deposition method to coat on Si substrate with micro-scale structures. The deposited AZO layer is flatted on horizontal plane as well as perpendicular one with conformal 200 nm thickness. The carrier concentration, mobility and resistivity of deposited AZO thin film on glass substrate were measured $1.4\times10^{20}cm^{-3}$, $93.3cm^2/Vs$, $4.732\times10^{-4}{\Omega}cm$ with high transmittance over 80%. The AZO films were coated with polyimide and performed selective polyimide stripping on head of column by reactive ion etching to measure resistance along columns surface. Current between the micro-columns flows onto the perpendicular plane of deposited AZO film with low resistance.

  • Transparent conducting tin (IV) oxide thin films have been studied and developed for the electrode materials of solar cell substrate. Fabrication of tin oxide thin films by sol-gel method is process development of lower cost photovoltaic solar cell system. The research is focused on the establishment of process conditions and development of precursor. The precursor solution was made of tin isopropoxide dissolved in isopropyl alcohol. The hydrolysis rate was controlled by addition of triethanolamine. Dip and spin coating technique were applied to coat tin oxide on borosilicate glass. The resistivity of the thin film was lower than 0.01-cm and the transmittance is higher than $90\%$ in a visible range.

  • Wet gel with surface modification by TMCS was redispersed in EtOH and redispersed silica sol for coat-ing was prepared. After spin coating of redispersed sol was conducted on silicon substrate, processes of drying(8$0^{\circ}C$) and heat treatment(>25$0^{\circ}C$) were, followed at ambient pressure. The influence of heat treat-ment of properties of film was observed, changing temperature at heat treatment. The optimum redisp-ersion condition for stable silica sol was wet gel:EtOH=1g:110$m\ell$ and the concentration and viscosity of redispersed silica sol with average particle size of 30nm were 0.11 M, 2.0-2.2 cP respectively. Crack-free thin film with the refractive index of 1.14 and thickness of 400 nm was obtained through drying at 8$0^{\circ}C$ and subsequent heat treatment at 45$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs respectively after spin coating of 1500rpm, 10 times.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual performance of Korean firefighter's clothing through comparisons with protective clothing used in the United State, surveys of firefighter's opinion, and experiments on the material used in Korean firefighter's clothing. The paper presents experimental results as well as ways to improve current standards. The major results are as follows: 1. Korean protective clothing is too thin and too heavy. Thicker, lighter, and more heat- resistant fabric and a lighter trim should be used. 2. Korean protective clothing is not very water-resistant. A Water-resistant outershell and an innerliner which are made of air permeable and water resistant fabric must be used. 3. Korean protective clothing's outershell and innerliner should be made of fabric that is more heat-resistant, flame-resistant, and chemical resistant. 4. Protective clothing should be more brightly colored and its reflective tape should have greater reflectivity to make firefighters more visible. 5. The fastner currently used in Korean protective clothing consists of Velcro, a button, and a D-ring which can not be opened and closed quickly. A better fastener would have just velcro and a zipper. 6. The uniform for Korean firefighters consists of only a protective coat and boots. Protective trousers should be added to the standard uniform. Also, a thermal harrier should be used in winter to protect firefighters from the cold. 7. Korean firefighters should be provided with their own personal sets of protective clothing to ensure a proper fit.

  • The scanning quality can be influenced by reflective abilities of a surface. Transparency and glossiness of a surface can highly limit the scanning results. Various techniques have been developed to solve problems of reflective and transparent surfaces. As one of the most feasible and convenient solutions, a thin layer of coating with proper specifications is sprayed on surface for eliminating the problems of the surfaces. As the main goal is to keep the object geometry unchanged, then it is important to coat the surface with layers less than one micrometer in thickness. For this purpose, a newly designed atomization-based spray system has been developed and tested in sets of experiments to study its efficiency on scanning results while objects with the surface are in use. This paper presents the spray design process and then studies and compares the 3D scanning results of the surfaces coated with atomization-based and aerosol sprays.

  • We report a simple method for preparing hydrophobic mesoporous silica and its use as a pre-concentrating agent of gas analytes. Hydrophobic mesoporous silica was prepared by coating PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) thin layer on commercial mesoporous silica with thermal deposition method in a sealed chamber. By using this method, we were able to coat PDMS layer on inner-walls of pores larger than 15 nm. Also, contact angle measured on a surface consisting of PDMS-coated mesoporous silica exceeded $150^{\circ}$, implying that the surface has high water repellency. Pre-concentration ability of PDMS-coated mesoporous silica and baremesoporous silica was tested under dry and humid conditions. Adsorption and molecular desorption of gas analytes was much enhanced by PDMS-coating on mesoporous silica under both dry and humid conditions. Therefore we suggest that PDMS-coated mesoporous silica can be an efficient pre-concentration agent in order to enhance sensitivity of various detectors.

  • The structural changes in the pericarp of Panax ginseng fruit cells are studied during maturation periods. The pericarp can be divided into exocarp, mesocarp and endocarp. The exocarp consists of one layer of epidermal cells which is covered by a thin cuticle and hypodermal cells. A central vacuole and peripheral cytoplasm are observed in the exocarp and mesocarp. Also, irregular wall arrangement are observed during the differentiation. The endocarp is clearly marked off from the others by secondaw wall thickening and lignification. Secretory materials produced by the Golgi complex and rough endoplasmic reticulum vesicles appear to accumulated in the cell wall. These secretory materials are considered major components of the seed coat during the differentiation.
