In this paper, the energy and exergy analyses of the drying process of thin layer of eggplant slices are investigated. Drying experiments were conducted at inlet temperatures of drying air of 55, 65 and $75^{\circ}C$ and at drying air velocities of 1 and $1.5\;ms^{-1}$ in a cyclone type dryer. Using the first law of thermodynamics, energy analysis was carried to estimate the ratios of energy utilization. However, exergy analysis was accomplished to determine type and magnitude of exergy losses during the drying process by applying the second law of thermodynamics. It was deduced that eggplant slices are sufficiently dried in the ranges between $55-75^{\circ}C$ of drying air temperature and at 1 and $1.5\;ms^{-1}$ of drying air velocity during 12000-21600 s despite the exergy losses of $0-0.739\;kJs^{-l}.

We dried emitting layer of EL device at 30, 80, I20 and $150^{\circ}C$ for Ihr to investigate the effects to the emission characteristics of devices. PL intensity of P3HT thin film decreased with increasing the drying temperature. But, the EL intensity and stability of device with emitting layer dried at $150^{\circ}C$ were the best. We think it s because of absence of water and remaining solvent in P3HT emitting layer. So, We suggest that the drying temperature of emitting layer of EL device should be select slightly low temperature than its glass transition temperature.
In this study, drying kinetics of onion slices was examined in a laboratory scale vacuum dryer at an air temperature in a range of $50-70^{\circ}C$. Moisture transfer from onion slices was described by applying the Fick's diffusion model, and the effective diffusivity was calculated. Temperature dependency of the effective diffusivity during drying process obeyed the Arrhenius relationship. Effective diffusivity increased with increasing temperature and the activation energy for the onion slices was estimated to be 16.92 kJ/mol. The experimental drying data were used to fit 9 drying models, and drying rate constants and coefficients of models tested were determined by non-linear regression analysis. Estimations by the page and Two-term exponential models were in good agreement with the experimental data obtained.
This study was performed to develop a simulation model of circulating concurrent-flow rice dryer. The simulation model consists of drying model, tempering model and crack prediction model. The drying and tempering models were developed based on mathematical analysis, and the crack prediction model was developed by thin layer drying tests. Rice drying tests were done with three replications by use of a pilot scale dryer of holding capacity of 700 kg. Experimental values for moisture content, rice temperature, rice crack, and drying energy were compared with predicted values by simulation model. The RMSEs of predicted moisture contents were ranged from 0.5807% (d.b.) to 1.1951% (d.b.). and the coefficients of determination were 0.9688 to 0.9812. The RMSEs of predicted rice temperatures at the exit of the drying chamber were 1.83 to $3.81^{\circ}C$ and the coefficients of determination were 0.8834 to 0.9482. The results for moisture contents and rice temperatures showed very good relationships between predicted values and experimental values. The RMSEs of predicted value of crack ratio were 0.4082 to 0.7967% and the coefficients of determination were 0.8742 to 0.9547.

In this work, PZT(20/80)/(80/20) heterolayered thin film that has the tetragonal and rhombohedral structure was fabricated by Sol-Gel method spin-coated on the Pt/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si substrate by turns. The thickness of PZT-1 film obtained by six-times of drying/sintering process was about 480[nm]. This procedure was repeated several times to form PZT heterolayered thim film. PZT-5 thin films with top layer of tetragonal PZT(20/80) thin film showed dense grain structure and PZT-6 thin film with top layer of rhombohedral PZT(80/20) thin film showed the microstructure without rosette. Dielectric constant increased with increasing the number of coatings, and it was about 13S5 at PZT-6 thin film. Dielectric loss was not depend on the number of coatings.
The loss of the sulfur cathode material through dissolution of the polysulfide into electrolyte causes a significant capacity reduction of the lithium-sulfur cell during the charge-discharge reaction, thereby debilitating the electrochemical performance of the cell. We addressed this problem by using a chemical and physical approach called reduction of polysulfide dissolution through direct coating functional inorganic (graphene oxide) or organic layer (polyethylene oxide) on electrode, since the deposition of external functional layer can chemically interact with polysulfide and physically prevent the leakage of lithium polysulfide out of the electrode. Through this approach, we obtained a composite electrode for a lithium-sulfur battery (sulfur: 60%) coated with uniform and thin external functional layers where the thin external layer was coated on the electrode by solution coating and drying by a subsequent heat treatment at low temperature (${\sim}80^{\circ}C$). The external functional layer, such as inorganic or organic layer, not only alleviates the dissolution of the polysulfide electrolyte during the charging/discharging through physical layer formation, but also makes a chemical interaction between the polysulfide and the functional layer. As-formed lithium-sulfur battery exhibits stable cycling electrochemical performance during charging and discharging at a reversible capacity of 700~1187 mAh/g at 0.1 C (1 C = 1675 mA/g) for 30 cycles or more.
Sliced and whole root of rehmannia were dehydrated in a laboratory dryer at 40, 60, 80, and $100^{\circ}C$ to evaluate the kinetic parameters for dehydration of rehmannia. The drying curves of both samples were characterized by a falling-rate drying period only. Sliced rehmannia dried 1.1 to 3.1 times faster than whole root of rehmannia depending on drying temperature. Equilibrium moisture content (EMC) of rehmannia samples at the drying temperature tested were 0.069-0.078 g water/g dry solid, which was coincided with the monolayer moisture content (0.06 and 0.07 g water/g dry solid) evaluated from desorption isotherms using GAB (Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer) model. A logarithmic model for thin layer drying was applied to evaluate the drying time to reach EMC ($t_{EMC}$) and drying constant (k). The effect of temperature on $1/t_{EMC}$ and k was described by the Arrhenius model with activation energy values of 32.56 and 47.14 kJ/mol determined using the former parameter, and 34.27 and 38.26 kJ/mol determined using the latter parameter for sliced and whole root of rehmannia, respectively.

The effective moisture diffusivity and its dependence on drying temperature during drying of rapeseed were experimentally investigated. The data were recorded from thin layer drying experiments at nine different combinations of drying air temperatures of 40, 50, and $60^{\circ}C$ and the relative humidities of 30, 45, and 60%. The moisture diffusion equation was analyzed using stepwise multiple regression analysis. Effective moisture diffusivities were calculated based on the moisture diffusion equation for a spherical shape using Fick's second law. The effective diffusivities during the drying of rapeseed were $l.72{\times}10^{-11}$, $2.41{\times}10^{-11}$ and $3.31{\times}10^{-11}\;m^2{\cdot}s^{-1}$ at 40, 50 and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. The activation energy for moisture diffusion during drying was $28.47\;kJ{\cdot}mol^{-1}$. The dependence of moisture diffusivity on temperature was described by an Arrhenius-type equation. Drying occurred in the falling rate period and the internal moisture diffusion phenomenon is the governing physical mechanism of the moisture movement in the particles.
Purpose: The present study investigated the nutritional and organoleptic characteristics of two African leafy vegetables (ALVs)-jute mallow (Corchorus olitorius L) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata)-at various drying temperatures. Methods: The thin-layer drying of cowpea leaves and jute mallow was studied at various temperatures ($40-100^{\circ}C$) in a convective laboratory dryer, and the nutrient profiles of the dried vegetables were determined. The nutrients considered were vitamins B2 and C, and ${\beta}$-carotene. The level of vitamin C was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), whereas the levels of ${\beta}$-carotene and vitamin B2 were determined by titration. Results: ${\beta}$-carotene was the most stable nutrient, whereas vitamin C was the least stable nutrient in both cowpea leaves and jute mallow. The drying parameters-temperature and time-revealed that temperature had the most profound effect on vegetable nutrient stability. Organoleptic tests were carried out on the fresh and dried vegetable; there were no significant differences in preference between the fresh and dried ALVs (95% confidence interval). Conclusions: The present study revealed that the vegetables can be preserved by drying, and the study could be used as a guide for effective drying of those vegetables.
