고온 가스 질화와 저온 가스 질화 방법에 따른 AISI 410 마르텐사이트 스테인레스강의 경화층 및 마모 특성 (Surface Hardening and Wear Properties of AISI 410 Martensitic Stainless Steel by High & Low Temperature Gaseous Nitriding)

  • High temperature and low temperature gaseous nitriding was performed in order to study of the surface hardening and wear properties of the nitrided AISI 410 Martensitic stainless steels. High temperature gaseous nitiridng (HTGN) was carried out using partial pressure $N_2$ gas at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 10 hour, and Low temperature gaseous nitiridng (LTGN) was conducted in a gas mixture of NH3 and N2 at $470^{\circ}C$ for 10 hour. The nitrided samples were characterized by microhardness measurements, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The phases were identified by X-ray diffraction and nitrogen concentration was analyzed by GD-OES. The HTGN specimen had a surface hardness of about $700HV_{0.1}$, $350{\mu}m$ of case depth. A ${\sim}50{\mu}m$ thick, $1,250HV_{0.1}$ hard nitrided case formed at the surface of the AISI 410 steel by LTGN, composed nitrogen supersaturated expanded martensite and ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{24}N_{10}$ iron nitrides. Additionally, the results of the wear tests, carried out LTGN specimen was low friction coefficient and high worn mass loss of ball. The increase in wear resistance can be mainly attributed to the increase in hardness and to the lattice distortion caused by higher nitrogen concentration.

용접법의 우선순위 결정 방법 (Decision-Making Method of Priority Welding Process)

  • Nowadays, several welding processes are generally used to join parts together, and the materials are generally steel, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, and other difficult-to-weld materials. If a proper welding process is chosen, it is helpful for welding parts. However, there is no desirable technique for appropriately deciding on the welding process in the industry. Therefore, an appropriate method of selecting a welding process is needed for the novice worker in the industry. In this sense, a new analytic network process (ANP) technique is used for effective decision making in welding. By considering several criteria in ANP, a selection method is suggested to decide on the proper welding process. In the study, several criteria were considered for the proper welding of parts. By considering a matrix of prior interdependence effects among various welding processes, a decision-making method based on an ANP is accomplished using a weighting matrix, which is supposed to select an appropriate welding process. In addition, for appropriate decision criteria of the welding process, several factors, such as material, shape, precision, economics, and equipment, are used to accomplish the ANP algorithm. Moreover, the final weighting matrix is calculated following its ANP strategy. Furthermore, this decision-making technique is applied to both stainless razor spot joining and thick steel pipe joining. The results show its reliability and practicality, and the novice engineer and manager can use this technique to determine the best welding process.

레이저를 이용한 소재가공기술 동향 - ICALEO 2014를 중심으로 - (Recent Trends of the Material Processing Technology with Laser - ICALEO 2014 Review -)

  • New lasers such as high power, high brightness and short wavelength laser are using diverse industry. Also new technologies are developing actively to solve various issues such as spattering, process monitoring, deep penetration and key-hole stability. ICALEO is the international congress where recent technology for laser material processing and laser system are present. At 2014, it was held at San Diego in USA and more than 260 papers were presented from 28 country. The effect of the laser beam shape such as Gaussian like and top-hat was investigated on acoustic emission signal and pore formation in welding. Inline penetration depth was measured with ICI(Inline Coherent Imaging) technique and the data was verified with real time X-ray image on laser welding. The laser welding performance at low pressure environment was evaluated for the thick plate alloy steel. UV laser was used to weld various metals such as Cu, Aluminum, steel and stainless steel. The effect of the wavelength of the laser on the formation of the wave at the wall of the key-hole front and the absorptivity was investigated.

Containment Evaluation of the KN-12 Transport Cask

  • The KN-12 transport cask has been designed to transport 12 PWR spent nuclear fuel assemblies and to comply with the regulatory requirements for a Type B(U) package. The containment boundary of the cask is defined by a cask body, a cask lid, lid bolts with nuts, O-ring seals and a bolted closure lid. The containment vessel for the cask consists of a forged thick-walled carbon steel cylindrical body with an integrally-welded carbon steel bottom and is closed by a lid made of stainless steel, which is fastened to the cask body by lid bolts with nuts and sealed by double elastomer O-rings. In the cask lid an opening is closed by a plug with an O-ring seal and covered by the bolted closure lid sealed with an O-ring. The cask must maintain a radioactivity release rate of not more than the regulatory limit for normal transport conditions and for hypothetical accident conditions, as required by the related regulations. The containment requirements of the cask are satisfied by maintaining a maximum air reference leak rate of $2.7{\times}10^{-4}ref.cm^3s^{-1}$ or a helium leak rate of $3.3{\times}10^{-4}cm^3s^{-1}$ for normal transport conditions and for hypothetical accident conditions.

미세 다수공 타입의 네일파일 제조용 퍼퍼레이팅 금형 개발 (Development of Perforating Die for Manufacturing Fine Multi-perforated type Nail Files)

  • 네일 파일(nailfile)을 제조할 때 재료는 강판(두께 0.5mm)을 사용하고 가공방법은 외형형상을 만들고 $\phi$ 0.8-$\phi$ 1.0mm의 구멍을 약 300여개 뚫어 완성한다. 이들의 가공방법은 에칭(etching)에 의존하므로 제조 원가의 $33\%$를 에칭비가 차지하고 있으므로 제조원가의 상승원인이 되고 에칭시 부식제(etching reagent)의 잔류도 환경친화적이 못되며 재료가 강판이기 때문에 제품에 녹(rust)이 생기므로 이들의 문제점을 해결하고자 하였다. 따라서, 재질은 스테인리스판으로 교체하고 에칭가공 대신 금형으로 가공할 수 있는 프로그레시브 퍼퍼레이팅 금형(progressive perforating die)을 개발하였다.

PECVD를 이용한 금속 스탬프용 점착방지막 형성과 특성 평가 (Fabrication and Characterization of an Antistiction Layer by PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) for Metal Stamps)

  • Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is a novel method of fabricating nanometer scale patterns. It is a simple process with low cost, high throughput and resolution. NIL creates patterns by mechanical deformation of an imprint resist and physical contact process. The imprint resist is typically a monomer or polymer formulation that is cured by heat or UV light during the imprinting process. Stiction between the resist and the stamp is resulted from this physical contact process. Stiction issue is more important in the stamps including narrow pattern size and wide area. Therefore, the antistiction layer coating is very effective to prevent this problem and ensure successful NIL. In this paper, an antistiction layer was deposited and characterized by PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) method for metal stamps. Deposition rates of an antistiction layer on Si and Ni substrates were in proportion to deposited time and 3.4 nm/min and 2.5 nm/min, respectively. A 50 nm thick antistiction layer showed 90% relative transmittance at 365 nm wavelength. Contact angle result showed good hydrophobicity over 105 degree. $CF_2$ and $CF_3$ peaks were founded in ATR-FTIR analysis. The thicknesses and the contact angle of a 50 nm thick antistiction film were slightly changed during chemical resistance test using acetone and sulfuric acid. To evaluate the deposited antistiction layer, a 50 nm thick film was coated on a stainless steel stamp made by wet etching process. A PMMA substrate was successfully imprinting without pattern degradations by the stainless steel stamp with an antistiction layer. The test result shows that antistiction layer coating is very effective for NIL.

MEMS 기술 기반 이식형 청각 장치용 전자기 엑츄에이터의 소형화 및 최적화 (Miniaturization and Optimization of Electromagnetic Actuators for Implantable Hearing Device Based on MEMS Technology)

  • A micro electromagnetic actuator with high vibration efficiency is proposed for use in an implantable hearing device. The actuator, which can be implanted in the middle ear, consists of membranes based on the stainless steel 304 (SUS-304), and other components. In conventional actuators, in which a thick membrane and a silicone elastomer are used, the size reduction was difficult. In order to miniaturize the size of the actuator, it is necessary to reduce the size of the actuation potion that generates the driving force, resulting in reduction of the electromagnetic force. In this paper, the electromagnetic actuator is further miniaturized by the metal membrane and the vibration amplitude is also optimized. The actuator designed according to the simulation results was fabricated by using micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology. In particular, a $20{\mu}m$ thick metal membrane was fabricated using the erosion process, which reduced the length of the actuator by more than $400{\mu}m$. In the experiments, the vibration displacement characteristics of the optimized actuator were above 400 nm within the range of 0.1 to 1 kHz when a current of $1mA_{rms}$ was applied to the coil.

초미세 금속 박판의 마이크로 채널 포밍 (Micro Channel Forming with Ultra Thin Metal Foil)

  • Our research dealt with micro fabrication using micro forming process. The goal of the research was to establish the limit of forming process concerning the size of forming material and formed shape. Flat-rolled ultra thin metallic foils of pure copper(3.0 and $1.0{\mu}m$ in thickness)and stainless steel($2.5{\mu}m$ in thickness) were used for forming material. We obtained the various shapes of micro channels as using designed forming process. $12-14{\mu}m$ wide and $9{\mu}m$ deep channels were made on $3.0{\mu}m$ thick foil and $6{\mu}m$ wide and $3{\mu}m$deep channels were made on $1.0{\mu}m$ thick foil. Si wafer die for forming was fabricated by using etching technique. And the relation of etching time and die dimension was investigated for fabricating precisely die groove. For the forming, die and metal foil were vacuum packed and the forming was conducted with a cold isostatic press. The formed channels were examined in terms of their dimension, surface qualities and potential for defects. Base on the examinations, formability of ultra thin metallic foil was also discussed. Finally, we compared the forming result with simulation. The result of research showed that metal forming technology is promising to produce micro parts.

MOCVD 법에 의해 제조된 YBCO 초전도 박막의 물성에 대한 완충층 템플릿의 영향 (Effect of the Buffered-template on the Property of YBCO Superconducting Film Deposited by MOCVD Method)

  • [$YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$] thin films were deposited on various buffered-templates by a metal organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD). Three different templates of $CeO_2/YSZ/CeO_2/pure-Ni(CYC),\;CeO_2/YSZ/Y_2O_3/Ni-3at.%W(YYC)$ and $CeO_2/IBAD-YSZ$/stainless steel were used. The Ni and Ni-W alloy tapes were biaxially textured by cold rolling and annealing heat treatment. The dense YBCO films were grown on both the IBAD and YYC templates with no microcrack, while the YBCO films on the CYC templates were grown with the formation of microcracks and NiO. The YBCO film on the YYC template showed the higher $I_c$ than that on CYC template. Especially, the IBAD templates with a thin $CeO_2$(type I) and thick $CeO_2$(type II) top layer were used to compare the deposition nature of the YBCO on them. Comparing the current property of the YBCO films on IBAD templates, the YBCO film deposited on thick $CeO_2$ layer was better than the film on thin $CeO_2$ layer.

열간압연 클래드강의 맞대기용접부 내식성 및 용접성 평가 (Evaluation of Corrosion Resistance and Weldability for the Butt Welding Zone of Hot Rolled Clad Steel Plates)

  • We have investigated the traits of clad metals in hot-rolled clad steel plates, including the sensitization and mechanical properties of STS 316 steel plate and carbon steel (A516), under various specific circumstances regarding post heat treatment, multilayered welds, and thick or repeated welds for repair. For evaluations, sectioned weldments and external surfaces were investigated to reveal the degree of sensitization by micro vickers hardness, tensile, and etching tests the results were compared with those of EPR tests. The clad steel plates were butt-welded using FCAW and SAW with the time of heat treatment as the variable, a that was conducted at $625^{\circ}C$, for 80, 160, 320, 640, and 1280 min. Then, the change in corrosion resistance was evaluated in these specimens. With carbon steel (A516), as the heat treatment time increased, the annealing effect caused the tensile strength to decrease. The micro-hardness gradually increased and decreased after 640 min. The elongation and contraction of the area also increased gradually. The oxalic acid etch test and EPR test on STS316 and the clad metal showed STEP structure and no sensitization. From the test results on multi-layered and repair welds, it could be concluded that there is no effect on the corrosion resistance of clad metals. The purpose of this study was to suggest some considerations for developing on-site techniques to evaluate the sensitization of stainless steels.
