The Crystal and Molecular Structures of Sulfametrole

  • Sulfametrole, $C_9H_{10}N_4O_3S_2$, crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group $P2_1/n$ , with a = 8.145(2), b = 16.505(4), c = 9.637(1)${\AA},{\beta}=103.72(1)^{\circ},D_m=1.52gcm^{-3}$,Z=4.Intensities for 3594(2143 observed) unique reflections were measured on a four-circle diffractometer with Mo $K{\alpha}$ radiation $({\lambda}=0.71069{\AA})$. The structure was solved by direct method and refined by full-matrix least squares to a final R of 0.070. The geometrical features of the thiadiazole ring indicate some ${pi}$-electron delocalization inside the ring. The least squares planes defined by the benzene and thiadiazole rings are nearly perpendicular to each other(dihedral angle; $93.9^{\circ}$ ). All the potential hydrogen-bond donor atoms in the molecule, N(1) and N(2), are included in the hydrogen bonding. The molecules through hydrogen bonding form three dimensional network.

Synthesis and Characterization of New Dihydroindolo[3,2-b]indole and 5,6-Bis(octyloxy)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-Based Polymer for Bulk Heterojunction Polymer Solar Cells

  • We have designed and developed a new ladder type tetrafused ${\pi}$-conjugated building block such as dihydroindolo[3,2-b]indole (DINI) and investigated its role as an electron rich unit. The photovoltaic properties of a new semiconducting ${\pi}$-conjugated polymer, poly[[5,10-bisoctyl-5,10-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]indole-[5,6- bis(octyloxy)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole]], represented by PDINI-OBTC8 are described. The new polymer PDINI-OBTC8 was synthesized in donor-acceptor (D-A) fashion, where fused ${\pi}$-conjugated tetracyclic DINI, and 5,6-bis(octyloxy)-4,7-di(thiophen-2-yl) benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (OBTC8) were employed as electron rich (donor) and electron deficient (acceptor) moieties, respectively. The conventional bulk heterojunction (BHJ) device structure ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PDINI-OBTC8:PCB71M/LiF/Al was utilized to fabricate polymer solar cells (PSCs), which comprises the blend of PDINI-OBTC8 and [6,6]-phenyl-$C_{71}$-butyric acid methyl ester ($PC_{71}BM$) in BHJ network. A BHJ PSC that contain PDINI-OBTC8 delivered power conversion efficiency (PCE) value of 1.68% with 1 vol% of 1,8-diidooctane (DIO) under the illumination of A.M 1.5G 100 $mW/cm^2$.

  • The redox characteristics of 2-ketohydrazono-3-phenyl-5-substituted-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-thiadiazoles and its derivatives (1a-h) has been investigated in nonaqueous solvents such as 1,2-dichloroethane (DCE), dichloromethane (DCM), acetonitrile (AN), tetrahydrofuran (THF), and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) containing 0.1 mol.dm-3 tetra n-butylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) as supporting electrolyte at platinum ectrode. Through controlled potential electrolysis, the oxidation and reduction products of the investigated compounds can be separated and indentified. The redox mechanism is suggested and proved. It was found that all the investigated compounds are oxidized in two irreversible one-electron processes following the well known pattern of EC-mechanism. On the other hand, these compounds are reduced in a single two electron or in a successive two one electron processes following the well known pattern of EEC-mechanism according to the nature of the substituent

CoMFA on the Antiproliferative Activity of N-Substituted(R) 2-Amino-5-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole Analogues against Bladder and Rectal Cancer Cells (방광암(HCV29T) 및 직장암(SW707) 세포에 대한 N-치환(R)-2-amino-5-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole 유도체의 항증식 활성에 관한 CoMFA 분석)

  • Comparative molecular field analyses (CoMFA) on the antiproliferative activity of N-substituted (R) 2-amino-5-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazole analogues (ADTs: 1-17) against bladder cancer (HCV29T) and rectal cancer (SW707) cells were studied quantitatively. The statistical predictability and fitness of CoMFA A1 model for bladder cancer cells were better than those of CoMFA F1 model for rectal cancer cells and the antiproliferative activity of ADTs depends on steric field (HCV29T: 93.1% & SW707: 83.8%). Also, from the contour maps of optimized CoMFA models, the activity for bladder cancer cells had predicted to increase when sterically favored groups were substituted on meta- and para-position, and sterically disfavored groups were substituted on one ortho-position of phenyl ring. The activity for rectal cancer cells had predicted to increase when sterically favored groups were substituted on para-position, and sterically disfavored groups were substituted on two ortho-position of phenyl ring as R-group.

A Novel Donor-Acceptor-Acceptor-Acceptor Polymer Containing Benzodithiophene and Benzimidazole-Benzothiadiazole-Benzimidazole for PSCs

  • New electron deficient acceptor-acceptor-acceptor type of monomer unit composed of weak electron accepting benzimidazole and relatively strong electron accepting benzothiadiazole derivatives namely 4,7-bis(6-bromo-1-(2-ethylhexyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (BBB) was synthesized. The Stille polycondensation of the newly synthesized BBB monomer with electron donating 2,6-bis(trimethyltin)-4,8-bis(2-ethylhexyloxy)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene (BDT) afforded donor-acceptor-acceptor-acceptor type of polymer namely 2,6-(4,8-bis(2-ethylhexyloxy)benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b']dithiophene)-alt-4,7-bis(1-(2-ethylhexyl)-1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (PBDTBBB). The opto-electrical studies revealed that the absorption band of PBDTBBB appeared in the range of 300 nm-525 nm and its highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels were positioned at -5.18 eV and -2.84 eV, respectively. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the polymer solar cell (PSC) prepared from PBDTBBB:PC71BM (1:2 wt %) blend was 1.90%.

  • A series of novel benzimidazole derivatives bearing a heterocyclic ring as oxadiazole (21-32), thiadiazole (33-34), triazole (35-36) were synthesized and evaluated for their activities against Coxsackie virus B3 and B6 in Vero cells. Compounds 21-26, 31-36 with moieties of 2'-pyridyl, 3'-pyridyl and 4'-pyridyl at the 2-position and oxadiazoles, thiadiazole, or triazole substituent at the 4- or 5-position generally displayed activities against CVB3 and CVB6. Especially compound 24 ($IC_{50}=1.08{\mu}g/mL$, SI = 61.7 against CVB3) was the promising candidate as lead compound for anti-enteroviral drug. It was observed in the incorporation of heterocyclic rings in benzimidazole at the 5-position could enhance their biological activities.

  • The reactions of 3-methyl-1-phenyl-5-oxo-${\Delta}^2$-pyrazoline-4-thiocarbohydrazide towards phenyl isothiocyanate, sodium nitrite, cyclohexanone, aromatic aldehydes, and carbon disulphide has been studied. The Vilsmeier-Haack reaction has been applied on 4-substituted pyrazolone derivatives.

  • A series of 2-methylbenzimidazole incorporated to different heterocycles through ethyl or carbamoylethyl groups at position 1 of benzimidazole were synthesized. Also 3-(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-yl)propanoic acid hydrazide incorporated with semicarbazides and thiosemicarbazides were prepared. Moreover, the triazole 5e underwent Michael addition and alkylation reaction. Some of the newly synthesized compounds showed considerable antimicrobial activity against gram positive, negative bacteria and yeast.

  • The positive active material for polymer film-battery was prepared by using polyphenlenediamine(PPD) synthesized in our lab. and 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole(DMcT) with various mixture ratio. The transference measurement of surface morphology and thermal stability of the prepared composite film was carried out by using SEM and TGA, respectively. Electrochemical property and electrical conductivity of the composite film were also measured by using cyclic voltammetry and four-probe method in dry box, respectively. The thermal stability of prepared composite film was up to $200^{\circ}C$. The electrical conductivity of the composite film increased and showed the highest value(about 3 S/cm) when doped at 0.4% $LiCIO_4$ solution. And we could confirm that DMcT was effective on reactivation of PPD through cyclic voltammogram.
