  • Since thesaurus is used as a knowledge resource in many natural language processing systems, it is very useful and necessary for the high quality systems, especially for dealing with semantics. In this paper, we introduce a semi-automatic method for the construction of Korean noun semantic hierarchy by utilizing a monolingual MRD and an existing thesaurus.

  • In this paper we constructed semantic net that can efficiently conform retrieval and reuse of object-oriented source code. In order that initial relevance of semantic net was constructed using thesaurus to represent concept of object-oriented inheritance between each node. Also we made up for the weak points in spreading activation method that use to activate node and line of semantic net and to impulse activation value. Therefore we proposed the method to enhance retrieval time and to keep the quality of spreading activation.

  • The person information is a database given free most lively. This study investigates the construction of the domestic person information database and the service present situation. And I compare a search item and a search method with problems for the biographical database construction process and analyze it. I analyze the problems of the person information database and show the person idea who can solve this. I use term relations and the attribute data of the person which used thesaurus by biographical database construction with this purpose.

  • To improve the efficiency of business, it is important to standardize the meaning of terminology. And then, terminology dictionaries have been actively being built and used in various fields. In defense area, the publication of defense terminology dictionary is useful for information exchange of each army and distribution of standardized terminology. Defense agency for technology and quality(DTaQ) publishes terminology dictionary of defense science and technology on a three-year cycle. DTaQ tries to standardize the construction process of terminology dictionary and improve service efficiency by using terminology dictionary in defense area. This proposed method is based on the result of previous study about standardization of terminology dictionary. We suggest the practical steps including terminology dictionary constructing process, composition and role of organization, definition of headword, selection of target documents to be extracted terminology candidate, terminology extraction, generation of terminology candidate group, workbench registration, construction and validation of terminology dictionary. Thesaurus and workbench are developed to use and support terminology dictionary effectively.

  • This study aims at defining the concept of OPAC, tracing of research trends and development of it, and clarifying various methods of subject access and patterns of bibliographic searching in OPAC as well as strategies for improving to implement online catalogs. Although OPAC is so far the most user-friendly bibliographic searching method, there are still a lot of issues including online subject access in particular. Therefore a more effective and useful method for computer end-users have to be developed, for instance, improvement of an indexing system, a n.0, pplication of the classification system as a searching tool, a new design and construction of standardized thesaurus, betterment of user interface, introducing of expert system into bibliographic searching, establishment of subject authority file. Those would raise the success-rate of users seeking bibliographic information in the library catalogs. Korean libraries are in very early stage of OPAC implementation so that every efforts and concerns to improve strategies and techniques for subject access to OPAC have been strongly asked.

Ontology Construction and Its Application to Disambiguate Word Senses (온톨로지 구축 및 단어 의미 중의성 해소에의 활용)

  • This paper presents an ontology construction method using various computational language resources, and an ontology-based word sense disambiguation method. In order to acquire a reasonably practical ontology the Kadokawa thesaurus is extended by inserting additional semantic relations into its hierarchy, which are classified as case relations and other semantic relations. To apply the ontology to disambiguate word senses, we apply the previously-secured dictionary information to select the correct senses of some ambiguous words with high precision, and then use the ontology to disambiguate the remaining ambiguous words. The mutual information between concepts in the ontology was calculated before using the ontology as knowledge for disambiguating word senses. If mutual information is regarded as a weight between ontology concepts, the ontology can be treated as a graph with weighted edges, and then we locate the weighted path from one concept to the other concept. In our practical machine translation system, our word sense disambiguation method achieved a 9% improvement over methods which do not use ontology for Korean translation.
