The heating process such as line heating, triangular heating and so on is widely used in plate forming of shell plates found in bow and stern area of outer shell in a ship. Local shrinkage during heating process is main physical phenomenon used in plate forming process. As it is well appreciated, the heated plate undergoes the change in material and mechanical properties around heated area due to the harsh thermal process. It is, therefore, important to investigate the changes of physical and mechanical properties due to heating process in order to use them plate the design stage of shell plates. This study is concerned with the development of formula of plastic hardening constitutive equation for steel plate on which line heating is applied. In this study the stress correction formula for the heated plate has been developed based on the numerical simulation of tension test with varying plate thickness and heating speed through the regression analysis of multiple variable case. It has been seen the developed formula shows very good agreement with results of numerical simulation. This paper ends with usefulness of the present formula in examining the structural characteristic of ship's hull.
Titanium alloy for bio-medical applications have been developed to reduce the toxicity of alloying elements and avoid the stress-shielding effect which is caused by relatively high elastic modulus compared to bone. Ti-39Nb-6Zr (TNZ40) alloy of elastic modulus exhibits around 40 GPa in the case of beta single phase. However, the strength of this alloy is lower than the other types of titanium alloys. Many research found that adding oxygen to beta-titanium alloys is beneficial for improving the strength through solid solution strengthening. In this study, TNZ40 ingots with addition of O were prepared by an arc remelting process (Ti-39Nb-6Zr-0.16O (wt.%), Ti-39Nb-6Zr-0.26O (wt.%)). Thermo-mechanical processing (i.e., heat treatment, cold swaging and aging heat treatment) has been performed under various conditions. Therefore, the aim of this study is to investigate the effect of oxygen content and ω phase formation on microstructure and mechanical properties.
The nonlinear snap-through buckling of functionally graded (FG) carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) curved tubes is analytically investigated in this research. It is assumed that the FG-CNTRC curved tube is supported on a three-parameter nonlinear elastic foundation and is subjected to the uniformly distributed pressure and thermal loads. Properties of the curved nanocomposite tube are distributed across the radius of the pipe and are given by means of a refined rule of mixtures approach. It is also assumed that all thermomechanical properties of the nanocomposite tube are temperature-dependent. The governing equations of the curved tube are obtained using a higher-order shear deformation theory, where the traction free boundary conditions are satisfied on the top and bottom surfaces of the tube. The von Kármán type of geometrical non-linearity is included into the formulation to consider the large deflection in the curved tube. Equations of motion are solved using the two-step perturbation technique for nanocomposite curved tubes which are simply-supported and clamped. Closed-form expressions are provided to estimate the snap-buckling resistance of FG-CNTRC curved pipes rested on nonlinear elastic foundation in thermal environment. Numerical results are given to explore the effects of the distribution pattern and volume fraction of CNTs, thermal field, foundation stiffnesses, and geometrical parameters on the instability of the curved nanocomposite tube.
The thermomechanical properties and morphologies of nanocomposite fibers of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) incorporating thermally stable organoclays are compared. Dodecyltriphenyl-phosphonium-mica($C_{12}PPh-Mica$) and 1-hexadecane benzimidazole-mica ($C_{16}BIMD-Mica$) were used as reinforcing fillers in the fabrication of PET hybrid fibers. Dispersions of organoclays with PET were studied by using the in-situ polymerization method at various organoclay contents to produce nano-scale composites. The thermo-mechanical properties and morphologies of the PET hybrid fibers were determined using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), wide angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), and a universal tensile machine (UTM). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs show that some of the clay layers are dispersed homogeneously within the polymer matrix on the nano-scale, although some clay particles are agglomerated. We also found that the addition of only a small amount of organoclay is enough to improve the thermal stabilities and mechanical properties of the PET nanocomposite fibers. Even polymers with low organoclay content (<5 wt%) were found to exhibit much higher thermo-mechanical values than pure PET fibers.

All solid rocket propellants are divided in two basic classes according to chemical state: homogeneous(double base) and heterogeneous (composite). Today, composite propellants are extensively used as power sources covering the range from gas generators and small rocket systems to large launch vehicles in space programs. The development of composite rocket propellants in the past was mainly directed to thermoset polymers. But, the thermoset composite propellants have the complication in formulation and fabricating process to adapt to rocket system requirements. In contrast to the thermoset propellant, the PVC plastisols composite propellants have the advantages in the view of loss in manufacturing process, low cost of raw material, and stability of the handling process even though moderate ballistic and mechanical properties. It is predicted that the application field of this class will be used more widely than any other classes.
Wear mechanisms may be briefly classified by mechanical, chemical and thermal wear. A plane strain finite element method is used with a new material stress and temperature fields to simulate orthogonal machining with continuous chip formation. Deformation of the workpiece material is healed as elastic-viscoplastic with isotropic strain hardening and the numerical solution accounts for coupling between plastic deformation and the temperature field, including treatment of temperature-dependent material properties. Effect of the uncertainty in the constitutive model on the distributions of strait stress and temperature around the shear zone are presented, and the model is validated by comparing average values of the predicted stress, strain, and temperature at the shear zone with experimental results.
Thermo-mechanical buckling problem of functionally graded (FG) nanoplates supported by Pasternak elastic foundation subjected to linearly/non-linearly varying loadings is analyzed via the nonlocal elasticity theory. Two opposite edges of the nanoplate are subjected to the linear and nonlinear varying normal stresses. Elastic properties of nanoplate change in spatial coordinate based on a power-law form. Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is exploited to describe the size dependency of nanoplate. The equations of motion for an embedded FG nanoplate are derived by using Hamilton principle and Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. Navier's method is presented to explore the influences of elastic foundation parameters, various thermal environments, small scale parameter, material composition and the plate geometrical parameters on buckling characteristics of the FG nanoplate. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling can provide accurate results of the FG nanoplates as compared some cases in the literature. Numerical examples show that the buckling characteristics of the FG nanoplate are related to the material composition, temperature distribution, elastic foundation parameters, nonlocality effects and the different loading conditions.

This paper shows mechanical properties and behaviors of macro- and micro-structures on friction stir welded specimen with 6061-T6 aluminum alloy plate. It apparently results in defect-free weld zone jointed at welding conditions like the traverse speed of 267mm/min, tool rotation speed of 2500rpm, pin inserted depth of 4.5mm and tilting angle of $2^{\circ}$ with tool dimensions such as tool pin diameter of 5mm, shoulder diameter of 15mm and pin length of 4.5mm. The tensile stress ${\sigma}_T=228MPa$ and the yield point ${\sigma}Y=141MPa$ are obtained at the condition of traverse speed of 267mm/min and tool rotation speed of 2500rpm. With the constant rotation speed, the higher traverse speed become, the higher tensile stress and yielding point become. Vickers hardness for welding zone profile were also presented.

Initial thermo-elastic and steady state creep deformation of a rotating functionally graded simple blade is studied using first-order shear deformation theory. A variable thickness model for cantilever beam has been considered. The blade geometry and loading are defined as functions of length so that one can define his own blade profile and loading using any arbitrary function. The blade is subjected to a transverse distributed load, an inertia body force due to rotation and a distributed temperature field due to a thermal gradient between the tip and the root. All mechanical and thermal properties except Poisson's ratio are assumed to be longitudinally variable based on the volume fraction of reinforcement. The creep behaviour is modelled by Norton's law. Considering creep strains in stress strain relation, Prandtl-Reuss relations, Norton' law and effective stress relation differential equation in term of effective creep strain is established. This differential equation is solved numerically. By effective creep strain, steady state stresses and deflections are obtained. It is concluded that reinforcement particle size and form of distribution of reinforcement has significant effect on the steady state creep behavior of the blade.

In the present study, vibration analysis of double bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells with saturated porous core and carbon/boron nitride nanotubes (CNT/BNNT) reinforced composite face sheets under multi-physical loadings based on Cooper-Naghdi theory is investigated. The material properties of the micro structure are assumed to be temperature dependent, and each of the micro-tubes is placed on the Pasternak elastic foundations, and mechanical, moisture, thermal, electrical, and magnetic forces are effective on the structural behavior. The distributions of porous materials in three distributions such as non-linear non-symmetric, nonlinear-symmetric, and uniform are considered. The relationship including electro-magneto-hydro-thermo-mechanical loadings based on modified couple stress theory is obtained and moreover the governing equations of motion using the energy method and the Hamilton's principle are derived. Also, Navier's type solution is also used to solve the governing equations of motion. The effects of various parameters such as material length scale parameter, temperature change, various distributions of nanotube, volume fraction of nanotubes, porosity and Skempton coefficients, and geometric parameters on the natural frequency of double bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells are investigated. Increasing the porosity and the Skempton coefficients of the core in micro sandwich cylindrical shell lead to increase the natural frequency of the structure. Cylindrical shells and porous materials in the industry of filters and separators, heat exchangers and coolers are widely used and are generally accepted today.
