A warpage analysis program has been developed for fiber-reinforced injection molded parts. The warpage is Predicted from the residual stress and anisotropic thermo-mechanical properties coupled with fiber orientation in the integrated injection molding simulation. A simple elastic model is used for the calculation of thermally and pressure-induced residual stresses which are employed as the initial conditions in the structural analysis. To improve the reliability of warpage analysis, a new triangular flat shell element superimposing well-known efficient plate bending and membrane element is presented. The numerical examples address the neccesity to use anisotropic models for fiber-reinforced materials and show that predicted warpage is in good agreement with experimentally measured one.
Because of high intensity and easy controllability of the heat source, high frequency induction heating has been concerned and studied for the steel forming process in the ship building industry. However, the heating and forming characteristics have to be further properly modelled and analyzed for the process to be utilized with its optimal working parameters. In this study, a modelling with thermo-elasto-plastic analysis is performed using the FEM to study heat flow and deformation of the steel plate during the forming process with the electro-magnetic induction heating. The numerical model is then used to study the effect of the inductor shape on the magnitude of angular deformation of the plate during the forming process. It is revealed that the square shape of inductor induces the largest deformation among the rectangular inductors.

In hot closed-die forging the load increases rapidly near the final stage. Preforming operation is important to both the sound final forging and die-service life. In this study, the material flows during preforming and final forging are investigated. The physical modeling with Plasticine as a model material showed clear flow patterns. The forging process were numerically simulated by the finite element method with the isothermal and the non-isothermal models. The flow patten of the isothermal simulation showed good agreements with the experiments. Temperature changes and pressure distributions on the die surfaces during one cycle of the forging process were obtained from the non-isothermal simulation. High pressure and temperature were developed at certain areas of the die surfaces. It was concluded that those areas usually coincide with each other and should be distributed by the preforming operations to enhance the die life.
In this article the frequency response of magneto-flexo-electric rotary porous (MFERP) nanobeams subjected to thermal loads has been investigated through nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory. A quasi-3D beam model beam theory is used for the expositions of the displacement components. With the aid of Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of MFERP nanobeams are obtained. Further, administrating an analytical solution the frequency problem of MFERP nanobeams are solved. In addition the numerical examples are also provided to evaluate the effect of nonlocal strain gradient parameter, hygro thermo environment, flexoelectric effect, in-plane magnet field, volume fraction of porosity and angular velocity on the dimensionless eigen frequency.
The paper presents the thermo-mechanically induced non-linear response of multiwall carbon nanotube reinforced laminated composite beam (MWCNTRCB) supported by elastic foundation using higher order shear deformation theory and von-Karman non-linear kinematics. The elastic properties of MWCNT reinforced composites are evaluated using Halpin-Tsai model by considering MWCNT reinforced polymer matrix as new matrix by dispersing in it and then reinforced with E-glass fiber in an orthotropic manner. The laminated beam is supported by Pasternak elastic foundation with Winkler cubic nonlinearity. A generalized static analysis is formulated using finite element method (FEM) through principle of minimum potential energy approach.

This study seeks to develop analytical solutions for the biothermoelastic model without accounting for energy dissipation. These solutions are then applied to estimate the temperature changes induced by external heating sources by integrating relevant empirical data characterizing the biological tissue of interest. The distributions of temperature, displacement, and strain were obtained by utilizing the eigenvalues approach with the Laplace transforms and numerical inverse transforms method. The impacts of the rate of blood perfusion and the metabolic activity parameter on thermoelastic behaviors were discussed specifically. The temperature, displacement, and thermal strain results are visually represented through graphical representations.
The importance of unsaturated state in various geo-engineering problems has led to the advance of mechanical constitutive model emulating behavior of unsaturated soils in response to thermo-hydro-mechanical loading. Elasto-plastic mechanical constitutive model for unsaturated soil is formulated based on Bishop's effective stress. Effective stress and temperature are main variables in constitutive equation, and incremental formulation of constitutive relationship is derived to compute stress update and stiffness tensor. Numerical simulations involving coupled THM processes are conducted to discuss numerical stability and applicability of developed constitutive model: one-dimensional test, tri-axial compression test, and clay-buffering at high level radioactive waste disposal. Numerical results demonstrated that developed model can predict very complex behavior of coupled THM phenomena and is applicable to geo-engineering problems under various environmental conditions, as well as interpret typical behavior of unsaturated soils.

In this study, the damage parameters of Mazars model for KURT (KAERI Underground Research Tunnel) granite are measured form uniaxial compressive and Brazilian tests under the simulated coupled condition of a deep geological disposal. The tests are conducted in three different temperatures (15℃, 45℃, and 75℃) and dry/saturated conditions. Major model parameters such as maximum effective tensile strain (𝜖d0), At, Bt, Ac, and Bc differ from the typical reference values of concrete specimens. This is likely due to the difference in elastic modulus between rock and concrete. It is found that the saturation of specimens causes an increase in value of Bt and Bc while, the rise in temperature increases 𝜖d0 and Bt and decreases Bc. The damage model obtained from this study will be used as the primary input parameters in the development of coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical Damage numerical model in KAERI.
We proposed a numerical method for the thermo-mechanical behavior of rock fracture using a grain-based distinct element model (GBDEM) and simulated thermally induced fracture slip. The present study is the benchmark simulation performed as part of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G, which aims to develop a numerical method to estimate the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical processes within the crystalline rock fracture network. We represented the rock sample as an assembly of Voronoi grains and calculated the interaction of the grains (blocks) and their interfaces (contacts) using a distinct element code, 3DEC. Based on an equivalent continuum approach, the micro-parameters of grains and contacts were determined to reproduce rock as an elastic material. Then, the behavior of the fracture embedded in the rock was characterized by the contacts with Coulomb shear strength and tensile strength. In the benchmark simulation, we quantitatively examined the effects of the boundary stress and thermal stress due to heat conduction on fracture behavior, focusing on the mechanism of thermally induced fracture slip. The simulation results showed that the developed numerical model reasonably reproduced the thermal expansion and thermal stress increment, the fracture stress and displacement and the effect of boundary condition. We expect the numerical model to be enhanced by continuing collaboration and interaction with other research teams of DECOVALEX-2023 Task G and validated in further study experiments.
In this study, nonlinear vibrations and dynamic instabilities of a smart embedded micro shell conveying varied fluid flow and subjected to the combined electro-thermo-mechanical loadings are investigated. With the aim of designing new hydraulic sensors and actuators, the piezoelectric materials are employed for the body and the effects of applying electric field on the stability of the system as well as the induced voltage due to the dynamic behavior of the system are studied. The nonlocal piezoelasticity theory and the nonlinear cylindrical shell model in conjunction with the energy approach are utilized to mathematically modeling of the structure. The fluid flow is assumed to be isentropic, incompressible and fully develop, and for more generality of the problem both steady and time dependent flow regimes are considered. The mathematical modeling of fluid flow is also carried out based on a scalar potential function, time mean Navier-Stokes equations and the theory of slip boundary condition. Employing the modified Lagrange equations for open systems, the nonlinear coupled governing equations of motion are achieved and solved via the state space problem; forth order numerical integration and Bolotin's method. In the numerical results, a comprehensive discussion is made on the dynamical instabilities of the system (such as divergence, flutter and parametric resonance). We found that applying positive electric potential field will improve the stability of the system as an actuator or vibration amplitude controller in the micro electro mechanical systems.
