전산해석을 통한 열증기압축기 설계와 실험적 검증 (Design of Thermal Vapor Compressor by Numerical Analysis and Experimental Verification)

  • A thermal vapor compressor in which the subsonic/supersonic flow appears simultaneously, has been accurately designed through the CFD analysis for the various shape parameters such as the primary nozzle shape, converging duct shape, mixing tube diameter, and so on. The performance of the developed thermal vapor compressor has been experimentally verified to be installed in a Multi Effect Desalination(MED) plant as an important element. In this paper, the effects of each parameter are discussed on the basis of CFD results and the experimental results for various boundary conditions(motive pressure, suction pressure, and discharge pressure) are presented in compared with CFD results. The two results show a good agreement with each other within 2 % accuracy with regard to the entrainment ratio.

  • A high motive pressure thermal vapor compressor(TVC) for a commercial multi-effect desalination(MED) plant is designed to have a high entraining performance and its robustness is also considered in the respect of operating stability at the abrupt change of the operating pressures like the motive and suction steam pressure which can be easily fluctuated by the external disturbance. The TVC having a good entraining performance of more than entrainment ratio 6.0 is designed through the iterative CFD analysis for the various primary nozzle diameter, mixing tube diameter and mixing tube length. And then for a couple of TVC having a similar entrainment ratio, the changes of the entrainment ratio are checked along the motive and suction pressure change. The system stability is diagnosed through the analyzing the changing pattern of the entrainment ratio.

  • A heat pump has been considered as a thermal management unit for electric vehicles, including the heating and cooling of the cabin. However, the heat pump shows performance degradation at low outdoor temperatures or high compressor speeds. In this study, a R-134a heat pump for an electric vehicle was designed to improve system efficiency, by applying vapor injection with an internal heat exchanger. The heating performance characteristics of the vapor injection heat pump were analyzed at various compressor speeds and outdoor temperatures. The vapor injection heat pump showed 13.3% COP improvement over the non-injection heat pump, when the heating capacity was fixed at 5.2 kW. In addition, the heating capacity of the vapor injection system increased by 9.6%, as compared to the non-injection system.

  • In general, TVC(Thermal Vapor Compressor) is used to boost/compress a low pressure vapor to a higher pressure for further utilization. The one-dimensional method is simple and reasonably accurate, but cannot realize the detail as like the back flow and recirculation in the mixing chamber, viscous shear effect, and etc. In this study, the axisymmetric How simulations have been performed to reveal the detailed flow characteristics for the various ejector shapes. The Navier-Stokes and energy equations are solved together with the continuity equation In the compressible flow fields. The standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model is selected for the turbulence modeling. The commercial computational fluid dynamic code FLUENT software is used for the simulation. The results contain the entrainment ratio under the various motive, suction and discharge pressure conditions. The numerical results are compared with the experimental data, and the comparison shows the good agreement. The three different flow regimes (double chocking, single chocking and back flow) have been clearly distinguished according to each boundary pressure values. Also the effects of the various shape variables (nozzle position, nozzle outlet diameter, mixing tube diameter, mixing tube converging angle, and etc.) are quantitatively discussed.

Effects of the electronic expansion valve and variable velocity compressor on the performance of a refrigeration system

  • Energy consumption of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems is responsible for about 25 to 30% of the energy demand especially in hot seasons. This equipment is mostly electricity dependent and their use in principle affects negatively the environment. Enhancing the energy efficiency of the existing equipment is important as one of the measures to reduce environment impacts. This paper reports the results of an experimental study to evaluate the impacts of the use electronic expansion valve and variable velocity compressor on the performance of vapor compression refrigeration system. The experimental rig is composed of two independent circuits one for the vapor compression system and the other is the secondary fluid system. The vapor compression system is composed of a forced air condenser unit, evaporator, hermetic compressor and expansion elements, while the secondary system has a pump for circulating the secondary fluid, and an air conditioning heat exchanger. The manufacturer's data was used to determine the optimal points of operation of the system and consequently tests were done to evaluate the influence of variation of the compressor velocity and the opening of the expansion device on the performance of the refrigeration system. A fuzzy logic model was developed to control the rotational velocity of the compressor and the thermal load. Fuzzy control model was made in LabVIEW software with the objective of improving the system performance, stability and energy saving. The results showed that the use of fuzzy logic as a form of control strategy resulted in a better energy efficiency.

Subcooling Bypass Technology를 적용한 압축기 토출 냉매 온도 감소에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Decrease of Compressor Discharge Temperature Using Subcooling Bypass Technology)

  • The purpose of the study is to decrease the refrigerant temperature at the outlet of the compressor under high thermal load conditions for air cooled vapor compression refrigeration system. The subcooling bypass line called subcooling bypass technology(SBT) is installed to the window type A/C system to investigate the performance test. The standard air calorimeter test method is applied to measure the refrigerant temperature at the outlet of the compressor, cooling capacity, power consumption, and system EER. The refrigerant temperature at the outlet of the compressor decreases as the bypass rate increases. When the bypass rate is 8.2%, the refrigerant temperature at the outlet of the compressor decreases $2.8^{\circ}C$ while the cooling capacity and EER are the same as the conventional A/C unit.

  • The performance characteristics of heat exchangers which consist of a gas cooler, an evaporator and an internal heat exchanger have been investigated at various operating conditions of $CO_2$ air conditioning system by experiments. The heat exchangers were designed for use in the vehicle $CO_2$ air conditioning system, when considering the characteristics of heat transfer and high pressure as $CO_2$ refrigerant. This paper studied the performance of heat exchangers at various compressor speeds and expansion valve openings, and quantified the heat transfer rates and pressure drops. Heat transfer rates at the gas cooler and the evaporator were 6.9 kW and 5.2 kW, respectively, when the compressor speed was 4000 rpm and refrigerant vapor quality at the evaporator outlet was 0.98. Therefore, this paper carried out that the heat exchangers were analyzed to achieve superior performance for the vehicle transcritical $CO_2$ cycle.

실제기체 상태방정식을 적용한 열압축기 내부유동에 대한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis for the Internal Flow of Thermal Vapor Compressor with real gas equation of state)

  • 열압축기는 고압 증기를 이용하여 저압 증기를 중간압으로 이송하는 일종의 이젝터이다. 이젝터에 대한 기존의 수치해석 연구는 대부분 작동유체를 이상기체로 취급하고 있으나 상변화가 발생하는 경우 이상기체 거동에서 크게 벗어날 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이상기체 상태방정식 대신 Redlich-Kwong 방정식을 적용하여 열압축기 내부 유동을 수치 해석하였고, realizable k-${\epsilon}$ 모델과 SST k-${\omega}$ 모델을 비교한 결과 SST k-${\omega}$ 모델이 shock diamond 패턴과 박리 및 난류경계층을 잘 예측하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 실제기체 상태방정식을 사용한 경우가 이상기체 상태방정식을 사용한 경우에 비해 상대적으로 디퓨저 입구 부분과 디퓨저 목부분에서 에너지 손실이 많은 것을 알 수 있었으며, 디퓨저 출구부분에서 shock train에 의한 압력상승은 상대적으로 적으나 pseudo shock에 의한 압력상승은동일한 것으로 확인되었다.

태양열과 재열기를 사용한 VI heat pump의 성능 특성에 관한 연구 (Heating Performance Characteristics of Heat Pump with VI cycle using Re-Heater and Solar-Assisted)

  • In this study, heating performance of the air-cooled heat pump with vapor-injection (VI) cycles, re-heater and solar heat storage tank was investigated experimentally. Devices used in the experiment were comprised of a VI compressor, re-heater, economizer, variable evaporator, flat-plate solar collector for hot water, thermal storage tank, etc. As working fluid, refrigerant R410A for heat pump and propylene glycol (PG) for solar collector were used. In this experiment, heating performance was compared by three cycles, A, B and C. In case of Cycle B, heat exchange was conducted between VI suction refrigerant and inlet refrigerant of condenser by re-heater (Re-heater in Fig. 3, No. 3) (Cycle B), and Cycle A was not use re-heater on the same operating conditions. In case of Cycle C, outlet refrigerant from evaporator go to thermal storage tank for getting a thermal energy from solar thermal storage tank while re-heater also used. As a result, Cycle C reached the target temperature of water in a shorter time than Cycle B and Cycle A. In addition, it was founded that, as for the coefficient of heating performance($COP_h$), the performance in Cycle C was improved by 13.6% higher than the performance of Cycle B shown the average $COP_h$ of 3.0 and by 18.9% higher than the performance of Cycle A shown the average $COP_h$ of 2.86. From this results, It was confirmed that the performance of heat pump system with refrigerant re-heater and VI cycle can be improved by applying solar thermal energy as an auxiliary heat source.
