In order to analyze the formation mechanism of iron oxide nanoparticles, we measured the heat flow of $Fe(OL)_3$ precursor with temperature, and TEM images and AC susceptibility of aliquots samples sequentially taken from the reaction solution, respectively. The thermal decomposition of two OL-chain from $Fe(OL)_3$ produced the Fe-OL monomer, which were contributed to the formation of iron oxide nanoparticles. In the initial stage of nanoparticles formation, the small iron oxide nanoparticles had ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ structure. However, as the iron oxide nanoparticles were rapidly growth, the iron oxide nanoparticles showed ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$-FeO core-shell structure which the FeO layer was formed on the surface of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles by insufficient oxygen supply from the reaction solution. These nanoparticles were transformed to $Fe_3O_4$ structure by oxidation during long aging time at high temperature. Finally, the $Fe_3O_4$ nanoparticles with high saturation magnetization and stable in the air could be easily synthesized by the thermal decomposition method.

Carbon fiber(CF) with excellent thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity is attracting attention as an alternative material because metal heating elements have problems such as high heat loss and fire risk. However, since CF is oxidized and disconnected at about 200℃ or higher, the application of heating elements is limited, and CF heating elements in the form of vacuum tubes are currently used in some commercial heaters. In this work, polyimide(PI) with high heat resistance was coated on the surface of carbon fiber by electrophoretic deposition to prevent oxidation of CF in the atmosphere without using a vacuum tube, and the coating thickness and heat resistance were investigated according to the applied voltage. The heater made by connecting the PI-coated CF heating elements in series showed stable heating characteristics up to 292℃, which was similar to the heating temperature result of the heat transfer simulation. The PI layer coated by the electrophoretic deposition method is effective in preventing oxidation of CF at 200℃ or higher and is expected to be applicable to various heating components such as secondary batteries, aerospace, and electric vehicles that require heat stability.
The formation of high-quality polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) on relatively low cost substrate has been an important issue in the development of thin film solar cells. Poly-Si seed layers were fabricated by an inverse aluminum-induced crystallization (I-AIC) process and the properties of the resulting layer were characterized. The I-AIC process has an advantage of being able to continue the epitaxial growth without an Al layer removing process. An amorphous Si precursor layer was deposited on Corning glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering system with Ar plasma. Then, Al thin film was deposited by thermal evaporation. An $SiO_2$ diffusion barrier layer was formed between Si and Al layers to control the surface orientation of seed layer. The crystallinity of the poly-Si seed layer was analyzed by Raman spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction (XRD). The grain size and orientation of the poly-Si seed layer were determined by electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) method. The prepared poly-Si seed layer showed high volume fraction of crystalline Si and <100> orientation. The diffusion barrier layer and processing temperature significantly affected the grain size and orientation of the poly Si seed layer. The shorter oxidation time and lower processing temperature led to a better orientation of the poly-Si seed layer. This study presents the formation mechanism of a poly seed layer by inverse aluminum-induced crystallization.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with two-dimensional layered structure, such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) and tungsten diselenide (WSe2), are considered attractive materials for future semiconductor devices due to its relatively superior electrical, optical, and mechanical properties. Their excellent scalability down to a monolayer based on the van der Waals layered structure without surface dangling bonds makes semiconductor devices based on TMD free from short channel effect. In comparison to the widely studied transistor based on MoS2, researchs focusing on WSe2 transistor are still limited. WSe2 is more resistant to oxidation in humid ambient condition and relatively air-stable than sulphides such as MoS2. These properties of WSe2 provide potential to fabricate high-performance filed-effect transistor if outstanding electronic characteristics can be achieved by suitable metal contacts and doping phenomenon. Here, we demonstrate the effect of two different metal contacts (titanium and platinum) in field-effect transistor based on WSe2, which regulate electronic characteristics of device by controlling the effective barreier height of the metal-semiconductor junction. Electronic properties of WSe2 transistor were systematically investigated through monitoring of threshold voltage shift, carrier concentration difference, on-current ratio, and field-effect mobility ratio with two different metal contacts. Additionally, performance of transistor based on WSe2 is further enhanced through reliable and controllable n-type doping method of WSe2 by triphenylphosphine (PPh3), which activates the doping phenomenon by thermal annealing process and adjust the doping level by controlling the doping concentration of PPh3. The doping level is controlled in the non-degenerate regime, where performance parameters of PPh3 doped WSe2 transistor can be optimized.

The semiconducting $MnSi_{1.73}$ compound has been recognized as a thermoelectric material with excellent oxidation resistance and stable characteristics at elevated temperature. In the present work, we applied mechanical alloying (MA) technique to produce $MnSi_{1.73}$ compound using a mixture of elemental manganese and silicon powders. The mechanical alloying was carried out using a Fritsch P-5 planetary mill under Ar gas atmosphere. The MA powders were characterized by the X-ray diffraction with Cu-$K{\alpha}$ radiation, thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy. Due to the observed larger loss of Si relative to Mn during mechanical alloying of $MnSi_{1.73}$, the starting composition of a mixture Mn-Si was modified to $MnSi_{1.83}$ and then $MnSi_{1.88}$. The single $MnSi_{1.73}$ phase has been obtained by mechanical alloying of $MnSi_{1.88}$ mixture powders for 200 hours. It is also found that the grain size of $MnSi_{1.73}$ compound powders analyzed by Hall plot method is reduced to 40 nm after 200 hours of milling.

As a kind of distributed energy system, the co-generation system based Diesel engine using after-treatment device was devised for its environmental friendly and economic qualities. It is utilized in that the electric power is produced by the generator connected to the Diesel engine, and waste heat is recovered from both the exhaust gases and the engine itself by the finned tube and shell & tube heat exchangers. An after-treatment device composed ceramic heater and DOC(Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) is installed at the engine outlet in order to completely reignite the unburned fuel from the Diesel engine. In this study, mutual relation of each experimental condition was derived through minimum number of experiment using Taguchi Design and ANOVA recently used in the various fields. It is found that the total efficiency (thermal efficiency plus electric power generation efficiency) of this system reaches maximum 94.4% which is approximately higher than that of the typical diesel engine exhaust heat recovery system.
The $SnO_{2}$ thin film sensors were fabricated by a thermal oxidation method. $SnO_{2}$ thin film sensors were treated in $N_{2}$ atmosphere. The sensors with $O_{2}$ treatment after $N_{2}$ treatment showed 70 % sensitivity for 1 ppm $H_{2}S$ gas, which is higher than the sensors with only $O_{2}$ treatment. The Ni metal was evaporated on Sn thin film on the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ substrate. And the sensor was heated to grow the Sn nanowire in the tube furnace with $N_{2}$ atmosphere. Sn nanowire was thermally oxidized in $O_{2}$ environments. The sensitivity of $SnO_{2}$ nanowire sensor was measured at 500 ppb $H_{2}S$ gas. The selectivity of $SnO_{2}$ nanowire sensor compared with thin film and thick film $SnO_{2}$ was measured for $H_{2}S$, CO, and $NH_{3}$ in this study.

The analysis, hydrolysis mechanism, oxidation, reduction, thermal decomposition and metabolism of irritant materials such as chloroacetophenone isomers, bromophenylacetonitrile isomers, o-chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile(CS), and ethylisothiocyanate, etc. are interested in forensic science. We had studied hydrolysis of CS in 10% MeOH-$H_2O$ and 10% dioxane-$H_2O$ at pH 1.0~11.0 and various temperatures. As a result, we identified o-chlorobenzaldehyde and malononitrile that were formed by hydrolysis of CS by using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, UV/Vis spectrometry, and polarographic method.
An experimental study on the combustion of superfine aluminum powders (average particle diameter, a$_{s}$: ∼0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) in air is reported. The formation of aluminum nitride during the combustion of aluminum in air and the influence of the combustion scenario on the structures and compositions of the final products are in the focus of this study. The experiments were conducted in an air (pressure: 1 atm). Superfine aluminum powders were produced by the wire electrical explosion method. Such superfine aluminum powder is stable in air but once ignited it can burn in a self-sustaining way due to its low bulk: density (∼0.1 g/㎤) and a low thermal conductivity. During combustion, the temperature and radiation were measured and the actual burning process was recorded by a video camera. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and chemical analysis were performed on the both initial powders and final products. It was found that the powders, ignited by local heating, burned in a two-stage self-propagating regime. The products of the first stage consisted of unreacted aluminum (-70 mass %) and amorphous oxides with traces of AlN. After the second stage the AlN content exceeded 50 mass % and the residual Al content decreased to ∼10 mass %. A qualitative discussion is given on the kinetic limitation for AlN oxidation due to rapid condensation and encapsulation of gaseous AlN.N.
The cooling of precooked skipjack Katsuwonus pelamis is a critical thermal process in tuna canning because it affects the quality and yield of the canned tuna, as well as productivity. The combined method of vacuum cooling followed by water spraying (VC-WS) was investigated to increase cooling rates, and prevent loss of yield of the precooked tuna during vacuum cooling. For VC-WS, the precooked skipjack was cooled to $30^{\circ}C$ by vacuum at 31 mmHg and then wetted by spraying water for 2 min. The effects of VC-WS on cooling times, cooling loss, color, texture and lipid oxidation of the precooked tuna were compared with conventional spray cooling (SC).The cooling times for precooked skipjack from $75^{\circ}C-30^{\circ}C$ were 11 min for VC-WS and 145 min for SC. The cooling losses were 1.7 % for VC-WS and 1.6 % for SC. Peroxide and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) values of VC-WS were lower than those of SC. The loin of the VC-WS-treated skipjack was brighter and harder than the SC loin, as indicated by higher lightness and hardness values. Based on these results, we believe that the VC-WS process could compensate for the cooling loss of vacuum cooling and minimize changes in quality that occur during cooling of precooked skipjack tuna.
