  • PURPOSE. The present study aimed to evaluate the clinical applicability of monolithic zirconia (MZ) crowns of different thickness via determination of fracture resistance and marginal fit. MATERIALS AND METHODS. MZ crowns with 0.5, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.5 mm thickness and porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns were prepared, ten crowns in each group. Marginal gaps of the crowns were measured. All crowns were aged with thermal cycling (5 - 55℃/10000 cycle) and chewing simulator (50 N/1 Hz/lateral movement: 2 mm, mouth opening: 2 mm/240000 cycles). After aging, fracture resistance of crowns was determined. Statistical analysis was performed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HDS post hoc test. RESULTS. Fracture loads were higher in the PFM and 1 mm MZ crowns compared to 0.5 mm and 0.8 mm crowns. 1.5 mm MZ crowns were not broken even with the highest force applied (10 kN). All marginal gap values were below 86 ㎛ even in the PFM crowns, and PFM crowns had a higher marginal gap than the MZ crowns. CONCLUSION. The monolithic zirconia exhibited high fracture resistance and good marginal fit even with the 0.5 mm thickness, which might be used with reduced occlusal thickness and be beneficial in challengingly narrow interocclusal space.

  • The online realtime positioning error compensation system 'SKY-PACS' is developed to correct geometric errors, thermal errors and tool deflection errors induced by cutting forces on the vertical machining center. 'SKY-PACS' communicates position commands and position compensation signals with the CNC controller at 100Hz, which is CNC control frequency. So the compensation procedure can be applied during axis movement. Using 'SKY-PACS', Maximum 1 axis positioning accuracy was corrected from 5{\mu}m$ to 2{\mu}m$and the squareness error of X-Y table was corrected from 51{\mu}m$/m to below 4{\mu}m$/m. The error compensation under the cutting condition is carried out by ISO10791-7. And the measurement of test-pieces shows that the roundness is corrected rom 8{\mu}m$ to below 5{\mu}m$.

  • Present combustion engines have reached almost at the limit of development due to the fundamental structural problems. This study was carried out to propose a new concept internal combustion engine which has great potential advantages to the conventional engines. Proposed new concept engine is a kind of rotary engine. A rotor is rotating concentrically in a cylinder which is divided into two partitioning valves. and it makes four compartments in the cylinder. The volumes of each of four compartments are changing continuously with the rotor movement, and performs the functions of intake, compression. expansion and exhaust simultaneously. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. Expected theoretical thermal efficiency is 44.9 percent at the condition of 1000rpm and compression ratio of 8.0. which is almost the same as that of the conventional engines. i.e., piston and Wankel rotary engine. 2. The new concept engine has 2. working strokes in every revolution. Therefore. the new concept engine can reduce the specific weight and volume than four-stroke piston engine. 3. The torque variation is very small. therefore minimal noise and vibration are expectable. 4. The new concept engine can reduce mechanical energy loss than piston engine because neither crank mechanism nor eccentrical motion exists.

  • Heliostat, as a mirror system tracking the sun's movement, is the most important subsystem determining the efficiency of solar thermal power plant. Thus the accurate sun tracking performance under the various hazardous operating condition, is required. This study presents a methodology of development of the solar ray tracing technique and the application of it in the analysis of sun tracking error due to the heliostat geometrical errors. The geometrical errors considered here are the azimuth axis tilting error and the elevation axis tilting error. We first analyze the geometry of solar ray reflected from the heliostat. Then the point on the receiver, where the solar ray reflected from the heliostat is landed, is computed and compared with the original intended point, which represents the sun tracking error. The result obtained shows that the effect of geometrical error on the sun tracking performance is varying with time(season) and the heliostat location. It also shows that the heliostat located near the solar tower has larger sun tracking error than that of the heliostat located farther.

  • This manuscript will discuss a numerical method where the six equations of two-phase flow, the solid heat conduction equations, and the two equations that describe neutron diffusion and precursor concentration are solved together in a tightly coupled, nonlinear fashion for a simplified model of a nuclear reactor core. This approach has two important advantages. The first advantage is a higher level of accuracy. Because the equations are solved together in a single nonlinear system, the solution is more accurate than the traditional "operator split" approach where the two-phase flow equations are solved first, the heat conduction is solved second and the neutron diffusion is solved third, limiting the temporal accuracy to $1^{st}$ order because the nonlinear coupling between the physics is handled explicitly. The second advantage of the method described in this manuscript is that the time step control in the fully implicit system can be based on the timescale of the solution rather than a stability-based time step restriction like the material Courant limit required of operator-split methods. In this work, a pilot code was used which employs this tightly coupled, fully implicit method to simulate a reactor core. Results are presented from a simulated control rod movement which show $2^{nd}$ order accuracy in time. Also described in this paper is a simulated rod ejection demonstrating how the fastest timescale of the problem can change between the state variables of neutronics, conduction and two-phase flow during the course of a transient.

  • This paper is to investigate the shrinkage properties of high performance concrete (HPC) with mixture adjustment by using mock-up specimens. HPC with mixture adjustment needed a higher dosage of SP agent due to fluidity reduction and a larger dosage of AE agent due to the reduction of air content. Setting time of HPC with mixture adjustment exhibited earlier than that of control HPC by as much as 6 hours. HPC with mixture adjustment gained more than 70MPa of compressive strength. Autogenous shrinkage of Control HPC was found to be $-340\times40^{-6}$ at 49days when the expansion value by thermal effect was excluded and HPC with mixture adjustment $-175\times10^{-6}$, which was the half of the value of control HPC. Drying shrinkage of center section of HPC with mixture adjustment showed similar tendency with autogenous shrinkage because of no internal moisture movement, while surface section had larger drying shrinkage. The specimen embedded with reinforcing bar had smaller deformation caused by confinement of reinforcing bar.

  • The effects of substituting Zn+2 for Ni+2 ion on dielectric and piezoelectric prooperties of Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-PZT ceramics were investigated. With increasing Zn2+ contents the tetragonality was appreciably enhanced and the grain size decreased. Both Curie temperature and thermal stability were increased with increase in Zn2+ contents since the Zn+2 partial substition for Ni+2 could form solid solution in almost range of the composition investigated. Piezoelectric prooperties showed the maximum($\varepsilon$ T/$\varepsilon$0=5014, kp=0.56, d31=250$\times$10-12m/V) in 4.5Pb(Zn1//3Nb2/3)O3-40.5Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3-55PZT composition sintered at 125$0^{\circ}C$ and then decreased again due to the phase boundary movement for tetragonal phase of the solid solution of Zn2+ amount.

  • This work has been performed to evaluate the strength of fixtures, which were attached to outer surface of propeller flask to prevent transient movement during filling and cooling stages at Ni-Al-Bronze casting of large marine propellers. Experimental work was carried out to evaluate forces exerted on flask fixtures by measuring strain changes of fixtures due to thermal expansion and contraction during casting processes. Numerical analyses were also made to verify the experimental results and finally to evaluate the validity of arrangement of flask fixtures for casting of marine propellers.

  • Composite Lightweight (CL) insulated walls have gained wide adoption recently because the exterior claddings of steel building frames have their cost effectiveness, good thermal and structural efficiency. To investigate the seismic behavior, lateral stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation of steel frames with the CL infill walls, five one-story one-bay steel frames were fabricated and tested under cyclic loads. Test results showed that the bolted connections allow relative movement between CL infill walls and steel frames, enabling the system to exhibit satisfactory performance under lateral loads. Additionally, it is found that the addition of diagonal steel straps to the CL infill wall significantly increases the initial lateral stiffness, load-carrying capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of the system. Furthermore, the test results indicate that the lateral stiffness values of the frames with the CL infill wall are similar to those of the bare steel frames in large lateral displacement.

  • The state feedback optimal control techniques are used in designing the reactor control system. The mathematical plant model with the temperature feedback effects is established from the one delayed neutron group point kinetics equation and the singly lumped thermal-hydraulic balance equations, and is expressed in terms of state variables. The LQR (Linear Quadratic Regulator) control system is designed, being followed by the LQG (Linear Quadratic Gaussian) design to determine the optimal conditions of rod movement for the desired reactor power responses. And two different servo control schemes, the ordinary feedback system and the order increased regulating system, are proposed for the purpose of input tacking. The general control characteristics such as stability margins and output responses are discussed. Comparing each other, it is found that the order increased regulating system has far better control characteristics than the ordinary feedback system.
