Formation Temperature Dependence of Thermal Stability of Nickel Silicide with Ni-V Alloy for Nano-scale MOSFETs

  • In this paper, investigated is the relationship between the formation temperature and the thermal stability of Ni silicide formed with Ni-V (Nickel Vanadium) alloy target. The sheet resistance after the formation of Ni silicide with the Ni-V showed stable characteristic up to RTP temperature of $700\;^{\circ}C$ while degradation of sheet resistance started at that temperature in case of pure-Ni. Moreover, the Ni silicide with Ni-V indicated more thermally stable characteristic after the post-silicidation annealing. It is further found that the thermal robustness of Ni silicide with Ni-V was highly dependent on the formation temperature. With the increased silicidation temperature (around $700\;^{\circ}C$), the more thermally stable Ni silicide was formed than that of low temperature case using the Ni-V.

지상용 소형 루프히트파이프 성능에 관한 연구 (Thermal Performance of a Small-scale Loop Heat Pipe for Terrestrial Application)

  • A small-scale loop heat pipe with polypropylene wick was fabricated and tested for its thermal performance. The container and tubing of the system was made of stainless steel and several working fluids were used to see the difference in performance including methanol, ethanol, acetone, R134a, and water. The heating area was 35 mm ${\times}$ 35 mm and there were nine axial grooves in the evaporator to provide a vapor passage. The pore size of the polypropylene wick inside the evaporator was varied from 0.5 m to 25 m. The size of condenser was 40 mm (W) ${\times}$ 50 mm (L) in which ten coolant paths were provided. The inner diameter of liquid and vapor transport lines were 2.0 mm and 4.0 mm, respectively and the length of which were 0.5 m. The PP wick LHP was operated with methanol, acetone, and ethanol normally. R134a was not compatible with PP wick and water was unsuitable within operating limit of $100^{\circ}C$. The minimum thermal load of 10 W (0.8 W/cm2) and maximum thermal load of 80 W (6.5 W/cm2) were achieved using methanol as working fluid with the condenser temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ with horizontal position.

Thermal buckling properties of zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes using a refined nonlocal model

  • In the present article, the thermal buckling of zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is studied using a nonlocal refined shear deformation beam theory and Von-Karman geometric nonlinearity. The model developed simulates both small scale effects and higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the nanobeam. Furthermore the present formulation also accommodates stress-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the nanobeam. A shear correction factor, therefore, is not required. The equivalent Young's modulus and shear modulus for zigzag SWCNTs are derived using an energy-equivalent model. The present study illustrates that the thermal buckling properties of SWCNTs are strongly dependent on the scale effect and additionally on the chirality of zigzag carbon nanotube. Some illustrative examples are also presented to verify the present formulation and solutions. Good agreement is observed.

Performance of a Pilot-scale Rice Husk Incinerator

  • This study was conducted to find possible application areas of the by-products generated from the incineration of rice husk. To this end, a pilot-scale rice husk incinerator system was constructed and its performed test was carried. Major findings are summarized as follows. 1. The rice husk incinerator system developed in this study performed satisfactory in terms of thermal efficiencies. At the optimum operating conditions, thermal conversion efficiency and heat exchanger efficiency was 97% ad 60%, respectively, while overall thermal efficiency of the system was 58%. Under all conditions tested, temperatures in the combustion chamber were quite uniform and crystallization of SiO$_2$ in the ash was negligible. 2. NOx and SOx content in the flue gas was well below the legal limit but the CO concentration was around the legal limit. 3. Thermal energy from combustion was successfully recovered by a heat exchanger to provide hot water, ash was found a good supplementary cementing m terial, and the flue gas also was an acceptable $CO_2$ supplier to greenhouses.

Computational thermal stability and critical temperature buckling of nanosystem

  • Many of small-scale devices should be designed to tolerate high temperature changes. In the present study, the states of buckling and stability of nano-scale cylindrical shell structure integrated with piezoelectric layer under various thermal and electrical external loadings are scrutinized. In this regard, a multi-layer composite shell reinforced with graphene nano-platelets (GNP) having different patterns of layer configurations is modeled. An outer layer of piezoelectric material receiving external voltage is also attached to the cylindrical shell for the aim of observing the effects of voltage on the thermal buckling condition. The cylindrical shell is mathematically modeled with first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT). Linear elasticity relationship with constant thermal expansion coefficient is used to extract the relationship between stress and strain components. Moreover, minimum virtual work, including the work of the piezoelectric layer, is engaged to derive equations of motion. The derived equations are solved using numerical method to find out the effects of temperature and external voltage on the buckling stability of the shell structure. It is revealed that the boundary condition, external voltage and geometrical parameter of the shell structure have notable effects on the temperature rise required for initiating instability in the cylindrical shell structure.

공학규모 벤토나이트-모래 완충재 블록의 성형특성 및 열전도도 평가 (Evaluation for the Manufacturing Characteristics and Thermal Conductivity of Engineering Scale Bentonite-Sand Buffer Blocks)

  • 본 연구에서는 공학규모 벤토나이트-모래 완충재 블록의 성형특성을 분석하기 위해 플롯팅 다이(floating die) 방식의 프레스 압력에 따른 소요 밀도 관계 및 완충재 내 밀도분포 편차에 대한 균질도를 평가하였다. 또한 벤토나이트-모래 완충재의 열전도도 성능향상 수준을 분석하기 위해 최적함수비 조건에서 열전도도를 측정하고, 순수 벤토나이트 완충재의 열전도도와 비교하였다. 연구 결과 프레스 압력이 400kg/cm2 이상의 조건에서 건조밀도 표준편차가 0.011로 감소하고 균질한 밀도분포를 나타내는 것으로 확인되었다. 열전도도 측정 결과 프레스 압력이 400, 600kg/cm2일 때의 최적함수비 조건에서 각각 1.345, 1.261W/(m·K)으로 측정되었으며, 이는 순수 벤토나이트 완충재와 비교했을 때 각각 16.1, 11.0% 상승한 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과를 기반으로 공학규모의 균질한 벤토나이트-모래 완충재 블록 제작을 위한 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

홍삼의 온열 효과와 복약 순응도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Thermal Effect and Medication Compliance of Red Ginseng Extract)

  • Purpose: To evaluate thermal effect and medication compliance of red ginseng extract. Methods: Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over clinical study was performed. Twenty four healthy, married women aged 30-45 years with FSFI score below 25 were randomly divided into two groups; red ginseng group(N=12) and placebo group(N=12). During the first 6-week period (Study1), each group was dosed with red ginseng or placebo twice a day. Before starting the second 6-week period(Study2), a crossover design was chosen with a 2-week break(Washout period). Interchanging two groups after Washout period, red ginseng and placebo were dosed to each group. The efficacy of thermal effect was measured with subjective warm sensation scale and lower abdomen temperature by Digital Infrared Thermographic imaging(DITI) before and after each 6-week period. A medication compliance was assessed after each 6-week period and the correlation medication compliance between Sasang Constitution and subjective warm sensation was analyzed. Results: Overall 23 participants completed the study. In subjective warm sensation scale, after taking placebo, all participants exhibited an improving trend, but there was no significant difference. In lower abdomen temperature by DITI, statistically significant objective thermal effect of red ginseng was also not shown. A medication compliance was higher in Yin constitution(Taeumin, Soeumin), and showed an upward trend with decreasing subjective warm sensation. But no statistically significant difference was exhibited. Conclusion: Statistically significant thermal effect of red ginseng was not shown in this study. We anticipate if a long-term clinical trial is practiced, significant thermal effect of red ginseng will be shown.

글라스 비즈 - 고무 분말 혼합물의 열전달 특성 연구 (Characterization of Thermal Properties for Glass Beads - Rubber Mixture)

  • 본 연구는 글라스 비드와 고무 혼합재의 부피비와 상대적인 크기 비에 따른 열적 거동에 관해 다루고 있다. 혼합 물질의 열전도도를 측정하기 위하여 비정상면열원법이 사용되었다. 개별요소법과 열 네트워크 모델을 결합하여 입상체 모사 시료에서 입자 단위의 열전달 매커니즘을 분석하였다. 실험 및 해석의 결과는 다음과 같다. 유효 열전도도는 고무의 부피비가 증가할수록 감소한다. 두 물질의 상대적인 크기는 열 전파경로의 대부분을 결정하는 입자간 접촉상태의 공간적 구성을 지배한다. 같은 부피비를 갖는 혼합물질 중에서, 열이 잘 흐르지 않는 물질(여기에서는 고무)의 입자 크기가 큰 경우 열전달이 더 원활하게 이루어진다. 이상의 실험결과와 입자 단위의 관찰은 물질의 열적 거동이 부피비 뿐 아니라 구성 성분의 공간적인 구성에도 영향을 받음을 보여준다.
