Development of Lifetime Assessment and Rehabilitation Cost Calculation Methods for Overseas ROMM Project

  • Regarding the implementation of ROMM project (Rehabilitation, Operation, Maintenance & Management), which is one of overseas development projects, it is very important to diagnose the exact current status of aged thermal power plant. However, when people visit the power plant for the purpose of prediagnosis to implement the ROMM project, most target power plants for diagnosis, in general, are under operation. This can be a big interference factor to diagnose the exact current status of power plants. Therefore, in order to solve such interference factor, based on the 30 years of know-how in the field, the present study has developed a regression curve for a simple life time assessment and the calculation of rehabilitation cost that may be used as a reference relatively for the quantitative diagnosis on the status of a relevant power plant even during the operation of the power plant.

  • This paper deals with the characteristic and thermal analysis of brushless motors for Rack assist type Electric Power Steering(REPS). The performance of permanent magnet is under the influence of temperature. To predict the motor performance, the thermal analysis is necessary. The equivalent thermal network is composed of the thermal resistance and the temperature of major parts is calculated according to the operating condition.

자성 페라이트 용사피막의 전자파 차폐 특성 (Electromagnetic Wave Shield Characteristics of Thermal Sprayed Ferrite Coatings)

  • In these days, many advanced nations have enforced import restrictions against things emitting electromagnetic wave which has report that it is so harmful. In general, electromagnetic wave is composed of electric wave and magnetic wave. The reflection of electromagnetic wave is mainly reflected by conductive materials and the magnetism loss is generated by magnetic ferrite. The magnetism loss of ferrite is separated by eddy current loss, residual magnetism loss and hysteresis loss. Thermal sprayed coating is intended to manufacture because of simple processes and high efficient electromagnetic wave shielding. The high efficient thermal sprayed coatings were made from the magnetic ferrite materials that characterizes absorption of electromagnetic wave, and the electric conductive materials that characterize emitting of electromagnetic wave. This study was manufactured thermal sprayed coatings to improve absorption-efficiency, and measured the electromagnetic wave shielding efficiency. As the experimental results, high electromagnetic wave shield efficiency was obtained at wave frequency 2GHz to thermal sprayed ferrite coatings manufactured by size distribution range of spray powders, $38~88\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • Effective thermal management in a battery electric vehicle (BEV) is crucial for reducing energy consumption and maximizing driving range in cold climates. Consequently, original equipment manufacturers are actively investing in the development of local heating systems. Visualizing occupant thermal behaviors or comfort can readily provide valuable insights that would substantially impact the design and control strategies of such microclimate systems. This study uses MATLAB for three-dimensional visualization of human thermal psychology. The developed program enables qualitative assessment of occupant comfort in BEVs.

Experimental investigation on the variation of thermal conductivity of soils with effective stress, porosity, and water saturation

  • The thermal conductivity of soils is an important property in energy-related geotechnical structures, such as underground heat pumps and underground electric power cable tunnels. This study explores the effects of geotechnical engineering properties on the thermal conductivity of soils. The thermal conductivities of quartz sands and Korean weathered silty sands were documented via a series of laboratory experiments, and its variations with effective stress, porosity, and water saturation were examined. While thermal conductivity was found to increase with an increase in the effective stress and water saturation and with a decrease in porosity, replacing air by water in pores the most predominantly enhanced the thermal conductivity by almost one order of magnitude. In addition, we have suggested an improved model for thermal conductivity prediction, based on water saturation, dry thermal conductivity, saturated thermal conductivity, and a fitting parameter that represents the curvature of the thermal conductivity-water saturation relation.

전동 워터펌프의 열유동 특성 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Thermo-flow Characteristics Analysis of Electric Water Pump)

  • An electric water pump for engine cooling system has an advantage which particularly in the cold start, the use of the electric water pump saves fuel and leads to a corresponding reduction in emissions. The canned type electric water pump without mechanical sealing elements was selected to meet the requirements for operational reliability and life. However, the electric water pump for internal combustion engine generates much more heat loss than for hybrid electric vehicle since it is operated by the electric power of high current and low voltage. In this study, the fluid flow and thermal characteristics of the canned type electric water pump as an inverter integrated water pump has been investigated under the effects of heat generation. The analysis conditions such as outdoor air temperature of $125^{\circ}C$, water pump speed of 6000 rpm, coolant temperature of $106^{\circ}C$ and coolant flow rate of 120 L/min was used as a standard condition. Therefore, flow fields and temperature distribution inside the water pump were obtained. Also, we checked the feasibility of the canned type for the electric water pump in comparison with the mechanical seal type.
