To purpose of this research is to develop the numerical model for simulating performance of ground heat exchanger with high prediction accuracy. This paper describes the development of a numerical model that simulates the heat transfer between ground and circulation water in ground heat exchanger. Furthermore, we propose the estimating technique of soil properties, such as thermal conductivity, heat capacity and hydraulic conductivity, based on ground investigation. Comparison between experiment and numerical analysis based on the model developed above was conducted under the condition of the experiment in 2004. The result of analysis agreed well with the experimental result.

In this study, laboratory test equipment was designed and installed to evaluate the thermal behavior of bentonite, which is used as a buffer in high-level waste disposal systems. The thermal analysis was conducted to verify the test results using ABAQUS, a finite element analysis code. In view of the seasonal changes seen during the test, the thermal behavior of bentonite with a temperature of outside air was evaluated. Of the cases examined, the results of the analysis model using stainless steel (Case 3) approximates to the test results, showing an error of about 1℃. The results of the thermal analysis into seasonal temperature distributions are consistent with trends seen in lab-test results. These analyses show that the effects of the thermal conductivity of the material surrounding the buffer and outside air temperature, are very important factors in the thermal behavior of bentonite. In the future, it is expected that a moisture saturation test of a bentonite buffer containing a heat source will be carried out. Therefore, the development of a numerical analysis model is required for the prediction and verification of the laboratory test results.
In this study, the thermal properties of peeled chestnuts were measured, and the mathematical prediction model of freezing time was also developed for various interior positions from center to rind (surface). The measured thermal properties were showed that heat conductivity is $0.43W/m^{\circ}C$, specific heat is $2.7206J/m^3^{\circ}C$, latent heat is $216.9{\times}10^6J/m^3$ and freezing point is $-2.8^{\circ}C$. The entire process about reaching to the freezing time of peeled chestnuts was analyzed with its each regular depth position using the finite difference method (FDM) based on computer simulation. In case of regular freezing temperature, it was showed an that surface (rind) position is more rapidly reached into the freezing point rather than the center position, and also reaching time to the freezing point is more fast at the lower freezing temperature. Comparison results between simulation and experiments showed linear relationship. In regularly varying condition for freezing temperature, this method would give an information to predict a freezing time of the interior points for peeled chestnuts and more similar agricultural products.
The damage threshold measurement of gold films is carried out with ultrashort-pulse laser. An enhanced two temperature model is developed to encounter the limitation of linear modeling during ultrashort pulse laser ablation. In which the electron heat capacity is calculated using a quantum mechanical approach based on a Fermi-Dirac distribution, temperature-dependent electron thermal conductivity valid beyond the Fermi temperature is adopted, and reflectivity and absorption coefficient are estimated by applying a temperature-dependent electron relaxation time. The predicted damage threshold using the proposed enhanced modelclosely agreed with experimental results, demonstrating the importance of considering transient thermal and optical properties in the modeling of ultrashort pulse laser ablation.
A road surface temperature prediction model (UM-Road) using input data of the Unified Model (UM) output and road physical properties is developed and verified with the use of the observed data at road weather information system. The UM outputs of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, downward shortwave radiation, net longwave radiation, precipitation and the road properties such as slope angles, albedo, thermal conductivity, heat capacity at maximum 7 depth are used. The net radiation is computed by a surface radiation energy balance, the ground heat flux at surface is estimated by a surface energy balance based on the Monin-Obukhov similarity, the ground heat transfer process is applied to predict the road surface temperature. If the observed road surface temperature exists, the simulated road surface temperature is corrected by mean bias during the last 24 hours. The developed UM-Road is verified using the observed data at road side for the period from 21 to 31 March 2013. It is found that the UM-Road simulates the diurnal trend and peak values of road surface temperature very well and the 50% (90%) of temperature difference lies within ${\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$ (${\pm}2.5^{\circ}C$) except for precipitation case.

A BOR(Boil-Off Rate) prediction model for the NO96 membrane-type LNG insulation containment filled with superlite powders during laden voyage is presented in this paper. Finite element model for the unsteady-state heat transfer analysis is constructed by considering the air and water conditions and by employing the homogenization method to simplify the complex insulation material composition. BOR is evaluated in terms of the total amount of heat invaded into LNGCC and its variation to the major variables is investigated by the parametric heat transfer analysis. Based upon the parametric results, a BOR prediction model which is in function of the LNG tank size, the insulation layer thickness and the powder thermal conductivity is derived. Through the verification experiment, the accuracy of the derived prediction model is justified such that the maximum relative difference is less than 1% when compared with the direct numerical estimation using the FEM analysis.
Thermal flow through jointed rock mass was analyzed by numerical methods. The effect of a single set of joints on the heat conduction was analyzed by one-dimensional model and compared with the analytical solution. When a joint is completely dry, the joint behaves as a thermal break inducing jumps in temperature distribution even at steady state. Therefore when joints are completely dry, individual joint has to be taken into consideration to get a good result. When joints are partially or fully saturated, the thermal conductivity of the joints increases drastically and the jumps in temperature distribution become less severe. Therefore the effect of joint in heat conduction can be well absorbed by continuum anisotropic model whose thermal properties represent overall thermal properties of the intact part and the discontinuities. Since the effect of joints becomes less important as the degree of the saturation increases, the overall thermal response of the rock mass also becomes close to isotropic. Therefore it can be concluded that a great effort has to be made to obtain a precise in-situ thermal properties in order to get a good prediction of the thermal response of a jointed rock mass.
The physical properties which must be considered as engineering factors affecting on the evaporation process of fruit juices are boiling point rise, density, viscosity, thermal conductivity and specific heat. These factors are varied with food ingredients, soluble solids, pressure and temperature. In the reserch, it has been worked to obtain the data and to develop prediction model for the boiling point rise as a faction of soluble solid and pressure by the regression of SPSS package program. For the prediction model of density, it was developed as a fuction of soluble solid content on apple and pear juices. For the viscosity model, it was establised by the factors of temperature and content of soluble solid through the optimization program.

This research is to present experimental materials model of high strength concrete for prediction of fire safety of structural members based on physical properties of materials during heating up to 800$^{circ}C$. The following conclusions are drawn from this study. First of all, between 100 to 200 $^{circ}C$, the physical models of concrete such as specific heat and thermal conductivity, show visible degradation, regardless of concrete strength. Second, between 300 to 600$^{circ}C$, the physical models of the 29MPa and 49MPa concrete show degradation continually at these temperatures. Finally, beyond 600$^{circ}C$, the physical models of 49MPa strength concrete show larger degradation than 29MPa strength concrete due to rise of pore pressure and melting of the interface between aggregate and cement paste.

The design and control of thermal flow is important for the operation of high-power laser diodes (LDs). It is necessary to analyze and improve the thermal bottleneck near the active layer of an LD. As the error in prediction of the thermal resistance of an LD is large, typically due to the hyperbolic increase and saturation to linear increase of the thermal resistance as a function of thickness, it is helpful to use a simple, modified divergence model for the improvement and optimization of thermal resistance. The characteristics of LDs are described quite well, in that the values for simulated thermal resistance curves and the thermal cross section followed are almost the same as the values from the model function. Also, the thermal-cross-section curve obtained by differentiating the thermal resistance is good for identifying thermal bottlenecks intuitively, and is also fitted quite well by the model proposed for both a typical LD structure and an improved LD with thin capping and high thermal conductivity.
