Frost depth is one of important factors to design roadway structure, and it can be estimated with numerical simulation on thermal distribution through subgrade soils. Thermal conductivity is a key parameter for accurate prediction on thermal distribution, but there are few studies on thermal conductivity of subgrade soils in Korea. Thermal conductivity can be affected by several factors such as dry density, moisture content, and saturation degree based on previous researches. Two empirical equations to estimate thermal conductivity are applied to access the accuracy of these equations with experimental data. Results indicate that the equation can be used to estimate thermal conductivity with proper quartz fraction.
An instrument using thermal probe method was designed to measure thermal conductivity of liquid and solid foods. Thermal conductivity probe was designed with diameter to length ratio of 100 and diameter of 0.51 mm to minimize axial flow effect on thermal conductivity measurement. Thermal conductivities of distilled/deionized water, glycerin, and beef frankfurter meat were measured at $20-80^{\circ}C$. Mean thermal conductivity values of water showed less than 2.0% difference from several reference values without using time correction factor or probe calibration constant. For glycerin, difference was less than 0.7% from reference values at $20-50^{\circ}C$. Mean values of thermal conductivity for beef frankfurter meat ranged from 0.389 to $0.350\;W/m{\cdot}K$ at $20-80^{\circ}C$.

This paper describes a new mechanistic thermal conductivity model considering the heterogeneous microstructure of MOX fuel. Even though the thermal conductivities of MOX have been investigated numerously by experimental measurements and theoretical analyses, they show the large scattering making the performance analysis of MOX fuel difficult. Therefore, a thermal conductivity model that depends on the heterogeneous microstructure of MOX fuel has been developed by using a general two-phase thermal conductivity model. In order to apply this model for developing the thermal conductivity for heterogeneous MOX fuel, the fuel is assumed to consist of Purich particles and U02 matrix including Pu02 in solid solution. Since little relevant data on Purich particles is available, FIGARO and SiemensKWU results are only used to characterize the microstructure of unirradiated and irradiated fuel. Philliponneaus and HALDEN models are selected for the local thermal conductivities for Purich particles and matrix, respectively. Then by combining the two models, overall thermal conductivity of MOX fuel is obtained. The new proposed model estimates the MOX thermal conductivity about 10% less than the value of U02 fuel, which is in the range of MOX thermal conductivity from HALDEN. The developed thermal conductivity model has been incorporated into KAERIs fuel performance code, COSMOS, and then verified using the measured data in the FIGARO program. Comparison of predicted and measured temperatures shows the reasonable agreement within acceptable error bounds together with satisfactory results for the fission gas release and gap pressure.essure.
In this paper, a copper foil-thick grapheme (thin graphite sheet)-copper foil structure is reported to achieve mechanically strong and high thermal conductive layer suitable for heat spreading components. Since graphene provides much higher thermal conductivity than copper, thick graphene embedded copper layer can achieve higher effective thermal conductivity which is proportional to graphene/copper thickness ratio. Since copper is nonreactive with carbon material which is graphene, chromium is used as adhesion layer to achieve copper-thick graphene-copper bonding for graphene embedded copper layer. Both sides of thick graphene were coated with chromium as an adhesion layer followed by copper by sputtering. The copper foil was bonded to sputtered copper layer on thick graphene. Angstrom's method was used to measure the thermal conductivity of fabricated copper-thick graphene-copper structure. The thermal conductivity of the copper-thick graphene-copper structures is measured as $686W/m{\cdot}K$ which is 1.6 times higher than thermal conductivity of pure copper.

We made 980 thermal conductivity measurements on igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary, and volcanic rock samples from Korea. The average thermal conductivity of igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary, and volcanic rocks are 3.41 W/m-K, 3.98 W/m-K, 4.10 W/m-K, and 3.21 W/m-K, respectively. Thermal conductivity values of a rock type generally have a wide range because thermal conductivity depends on various factors such as dominant mineral phase, micro-structure, anisotoropy and so on. Thermal properties (thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat) are important variables which are used to design a geothermal heat pump(GHP) system. Therefore, our thermal property data can contribute on a efficient design of a GHP system.
A ground-loop heat exchanger in a ground source heat pump system is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and its initial cost. The Size and performance of this heat exchanger is highly dependent on ground thermal properties. A proper design requires certain site-specific parameters, most importantly the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. This study was performed to investigate the effect of some parameters such as borehole lengths, various grouting materials and U-tube configurations on ground effective thermal conductivity. In this study, thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device with 9-different ground-loop heat exchangers. From the experimental results, the length of ground-loop heat exchanger affects to the effective thermal conductivity. Among the various grouting materials, the bentonite-based grout with silica sand shows the largest thermal conductivity value.
The electrical and thermal conductivity of W-Cu composites were investigated as a function of the W-particle size and W-W contiguity. Powder mixtures were prepared by ball milling or mechanical alloying process, and then sintered at various temperatures. The electrical conductivity of sintered composite was increased with decreasing W grain size. Dependence of electrical conductivity on the W grain size was explained by the W-W contiguity concept. The thermal conductivity was increased with increasing the temperature up to $600^{\circ}C$ but decreased at the temperature above $600^{\circ}C$ Also, thermal conductivity value was influenced by the W particle size. Change of thermal conductivity in W-Cu composites was discussed based on the observed microstructural characteristics and theoretical considerations.

Insulated buildings are exposed to the external environment due to aging and construction problems, resulting in a decrease in building energy efficiency. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to provide a material for the change in thermal conductivity of the insulation when it is exposed to various external environments. In the experiment, five types of heat insulating materials were selected, stored under different environmental conditions, and the thermal conductivity was measured periodically to confirm the change in thermal conductivity. As a result, the thermal conductivity of all the insulating materials except the PF board increased with the passage of time. This is because thermal insulation absorbs atmospheric moisture under all environmental conditions and the thermal conductivity increases, and in the case of thermal insulation stored indoors in environmental conditions, the temperature differs from the thermal insulation stored outside. It is considered that there is little evaporation of moisture absorbed constantly, and the change in thermal conductivity is large.

A ground loop heat exchanger in a ground source heat pump system is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and its initial cost. A proper design requires certain site specific parameters, most importantly the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. This study was performed to investigate the effect of some parameters such as borehole lengths, various grouting materials and U tube configurations on ground effective thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance. In this study, thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device to 9 different ground loop heat exchangers. From the experimental results, the length of ground loop heat exchanger affects to the effective thermal conductivity. The results of this experiment shows that higher thermal conductivity of grouting materials leads to the increase effective thermal conductivity from 22 to 32%. Also, mounting spacers have increased by 14%.
The objectives of this paper are to estimate the ground thermal conductivity by ground heat exchangers in two different places - Chooncheon and Wonjoo, and to analyze the effect of ground thermal conductivity on the ground thermal diffusivity and the size of the ground heat exchanger. In Chooncheon area, a single-U type HDPE pipe (25mm diameter) with borehole diameter of 150mm, length of 150m is installed. In Wonjoo area, a single-U type HDPE pipe (40mm diameter) with borehole diameter 150mm, length of 200m is installed. It is found that the ground thermal conductivities are estimated as 2.69 $W/m^{\circ}C$ and 2.99 $W/m^{\circ}C$ in Chooncheon and Wonjoo, respectively. It is also found that the ground heat exchanger size is reduced by 8.6% with 25% increase of ground thermal conductivity, and increase by 11.8% with 25% decrease of ground thermal conductivity.
