WC-Co-Cr 용사코팅시 분말의 혼합이 코팅층의 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Powder Mixing on the Mechanical Properties of Thermally Sprayed WC-Co-Cr Coating Layers)

  • We report on the effects of mixing of powders with various particle sizes on fracture toughness and wear resistance of thermally sprayed WC-10Co-4Cr coating layers fabricated by HVOF (high-velocity oxygen fuel) process. The size and the mixing ratio of powders were changed in order to get high fracture toughness and wear resistance. The mixing of small amount of coarse powders with fine powders resulted in the highest fracture toughness and wear resistance due to the lowest porosity in coating layers.

Influence of coating and annealing on the luminescence of Ga2O3 nanowires

  • Ga2O3-core/CdO-shell nanowires were synthesized by a two step process comprising thermal evaporation of GaN powders and sputter-deposition of CdO. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses revealed that the cores and the shells of the annealed coaxial nanowires were single crystal of monoclinic Ga2O3 and FCC CdO, respectively. As-synthesized Ga2O3 nanowires showed a broad emission band at approximately 460 nm in the blue region. The blue emission intensity of the Ga2O3 nanowires was slightly decreased by CdO coating, but it was significantly increased by subsequent thermal annealing in a reducing atmosphere. The major emission peak was also shifted from ~500 nm by annealing in a reducing atmosphere, which is attributed to the increases in the Cd interstitial and O vacancy concentrations in the cores.

  • As automation systems become more common, there is growing interest in functional labeling systems using organic and inorganic hybrid materials. Especially, the demand for thermally and chemically stable labeling paper that can be used in a high temperature environment above $300^{\circ}C$ and a strong acid and base atmosphere is increasing. In this study, a composite coating solution for the development of labeling paper with excellent thermal and chemical stability is prepared by mixing a silica inorganic binder and titanium dioxide. The silica inorganic binder is synthesized using a sol-gel process and mixed with titanium dioxide to improve whiteness at high-temperature. Adhesion between the polyimide substrate and the coating layer is secured and the surface properties of the coating layer, including the thermal and chemical stability, are investigated in detail. The effects of the coating solution dispersion on the surface properties of the coating layer are also analyzed. Finally, it is confirmed that the developed functional labeling paper showed excellent printability.

수열합성된 Al-Cr-N-O계 도포층의 열전도 측정과 수학적 해석 (Determination of Thermal Conductivity and Numerical Analysis of Al-Cr-N-O Composites Layer Formed by Hydro-thermal Process)

  • Composites layer of Al-Cr-Ni-O system was prepared on a steel plate by hydro-thermal process at $700^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours, which phase identification and thermal conductivity were determined. The composites layer consisted of aluminum nitride, alumina, chromium carbide and aluminium, which density was $3.7kg/m^3$. The thermal conductivity of the coating layer determined by thermal data acquisition system was about 98.0 W/m/ which depended on the AlN content. Numerical modelling of the heat transfer behavior of the coating layer was well agreement with the empirical data.

  • Thermal barrier systems are susceptible to instability of the thermally grown oxide(TGO) at the interface between the bond coat(BC) and the thermal barrier coating(TBC). The instabilities have been linked to thermal cycling and initial geometrical imperfections, as well as to misfit strains due to oxide growth and expansion misfit. In this work, deformation of TGO near a surface groove due to thermal cycling has been observed at high temperatures, $1100^{circ}C$, $1150^{circ}C$, $1200^{circ}C$. The effect of peak temperature and the thickness of substrate are presented.

SiCf-SiC 복합재료의 내환경 코팅 및 열, 기계적 내구성 평가 (Thermal and Mechanical Evaluation of Environmental Barrier Coatings for SiCf-SiC Composites)

  • 본 논문에서는 탄화규소 섬유강화 탄화규소 복합재료에 내환경 코팅을 수행한 후, 열 기계적 특성평가에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 초기분말은 성형공정도중 흐름성을 좋게 하기 위해 분무건조법으로 구형의 분말을 제조하였다. 내환경 코팅재는 복합재료가 산화되거나 고온 수증기와 반응하는 것을 방지하기 위해 행하여 지는데, 본 연구에서는 액상침투법(LSI)으로 제조한 복합재에 실리콘으로 본드코팅을 하고 그 위에 대기플라즈마용사법으로 뮬라이트(mullite)와 무게비로 12% 이터븀 실리케이트(ytterbium silicate)가 혼합된 복합재를 코팅하였다. 대기플라즈마 코팅공정 시 성형변수로서 분무거리를 100, 120 그리고 140 mm로 변화시켰다. 그 후 $1100^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 100시간동안 유지하는 실험과 $1200^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 열충격을 가하는 싸이클을 3000회 반복하였다. 열내구성 시험동안 계면 박리는 일어나지 않았지만, 현저한 균열들이 코팅층 내에서 발견되었다. 균열밀도와 균열의 길이는 코팅도중의 분무거리에 의존하여 변화하였다. 열 내구성 시험 후, 압흔 시험을 통해 기계적 열화거동을 분석하였는데, 시험의 방식이나 조건들이 하중-변위 곡선의 거동에 영향을 주었다.

  • Boron carbide coating has some very attractive properties for nuclear and semiconductor industry. The potential of atmosheric plasma spray as manufacturing methods for $B_4C$ coating was discussed. In this work, the boron carbide coating with low porosity, high microhardness and good life of thermal shock resistance was deposited by the control of spraying distance. The relationship between the properties of $B_4C$ coatings and their spraying distance was studied.

Temperature on structural steelworks insulated by inorganic intumescent coating

  • Predicting the fire resistance of structures has been significantly advanced by full scale fire tests in conjunction with improved understanding of compartmental fire. Despite the progress, application of insulation is still required to parts of structural steelwork to achieve over 60 minutes of fire rating. It is now recognised that uncertainties on insulation properties hinder adaptation of performance based designs for different types of structures. Intumescent coating has recently appeared to be one of most popular insulation types for steel structures, but its design method remains to be confirmed by empirical data, as technical difficulties on the determination of the material properties at elevated temperatures exist. These need to take into account of further physiochemical transitions such as moving boundary and endothermic reaction. The impetus for this research is to investigate the applicability of the conventional differential equation solution which examines the temperature rise on coated steel members by an inorganic intumescent coating, provided that the temperature-dependent thermal/mechanical insulation properties are experimentally defined in lab scale tests.

  • An experimental study was performed to discover the effect of environmental conditions on the rolling resistance behavior of pure silver and lead coated 52100 bearing steel. Pure silver and lead coating were produced by a thermal evaporation coating method. Experiments using a thrust ball bearing-typed rolling test-rig were performed under vacuum, dry air and controlled humidity conditions. Results showed that agglomeration of particles were prevented in vacuum environment and as it showed low and stable rolling resistance by shakedown phenomena. Also, humidity relates closely to the agglomeration of particles and increased the rolling resistance after the failure of coated layer.

  • An experimental study was performed to discover the tribological behaviors of pure silver coated 52100 bearing steel. Pure silver coatings ranging from 80 nm to several micrometers were produced by a thermal evaporation coating method. Experiments using a thrust ball bearing-typed rolling test-rig were performed for the investigations of the influence of coating thickness on the tribological rolling behavior. The existence of optimum film thickness which revealed minimum rolling resistance was discovered. A careful analysis on the contact surfaces for the optimum film thickness has been performed. The contact patches produced by the transferred silver films played an important role for the rolling resistance to keep low.
