Purpose: The current study analyzed trends in thermal insulation performance with aging, and condensation characteristics caused by the former. Method: Thermal insulation and condensation prevention performance of an architecture were assessed using Temperature Difference Ration Inside, or TDRi. Subjects of this quantitative analysis in thermal insulation performance change due to aging included recently constructed apartments and aged apartments older than 40 years. Time series comparison and analysis were conducted to observed changes in the thermal insulation performance and condensation characteristics. Result: Analysis showed that wall insulation performance degraded with aging regardless of fortified insulating material usage or insulating material type, which caused increased danger of condensation. In addition, when fortified insulating material was installed on the connection between the walls, insulation performance degradation was lower compared to cases in which fortified materials were not used. In all cases from 1 to 10, the rate of thermal insulation performance degradation increased after 20 years of aging.

One of the major problems limiting the accuracy of piezoelectric transducers fur cylinder pressure measurements in an internal combustion (IC) engine is the thermal shock. Thermal shock is generated from the temperature variation during the cycle. This temperature variation results in contraction and expansion of the diaphragm and consequently changes the force acting on the quartz in the pressure transducer An empirical equation for compensation of the thermal shock error was derived from consideration of the diaphragm thermal deformation and actual pressure data. The result indicate that the thermal shock equation provides reliable correction based on known surface temperature swing.
This study investigate changes in mechanical behaviors such as indentation load-displacement and hardness of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) using cycling of thermal shock test. Relatively dense and porous TBCs on nickel-based bondcoat/super alloy are prepared using different starting granules, 204C-NS and 204NS commercial powers, and the effect of double layers of 204C-NS on 204NS and 204NS on 204C-NS are investigated. The highest temperature applied during thermal shock test is $1100^{\circ}C$ and the maximum number of cycles is 1,200. The results indicate that bilayered TBC showed a relatively mechanically resistant property during thermal shock cycles and that the mechanical behavior is influenced by the microstructure of TBCs by exposure to high temperature during tests or different starting granules.
A PEMFC(proton exchange membrane fuel cell) is a good candidate for residential power generation to be cope with the shortage of fossil fuel and green house gas emission. The attractive benefit of the PEMFC is to produce electric power as well as hot water for home usage. Typically, thermal management of vehicular PEMFC is to reject the heat from the PEMFC to the ambient air. Different from that, the thermal management of PEMFC for RPG is to utilize the heat of PEMFC so that the PEMFC can be operated at its optimal efficiency. In this study, dynamic thermal management system is modeled to understand the response of the thermal management system during dynamic operation. The thermal management system of PEMFC for RPGFC is composed of two cooling circuits, one for controling the fuel cell temperature and the other for heating up the water for home usage. Dynamic responses and operating strategies of the PEMFC system are investigated during load changes.
In the present computational approach, thermal buckling and frequency characteristics of a doubly curved laminated nanopanel with the aid of Two-Dimensional Generalized Differential Quadrature Method (2D-GDQM) and Nonlocal Strain Gradient Theory (NSGT) are investigated. Additionally, the temperature changes along the thickness direction nonlinearly. The novelty of the current study is in considering the effects of laminated composite and thermal in addition of size effect on frequency, thermal buckling, and dynamic deflections of the laminated nanopanel. The acquired numerical and analytical results are compared by each other to validate the results. The results demonstrate that some geometrical and physical parameters, have noticeable effects on the frequency and pre-thermal buckling behavior of the doubly curved open cylindrical laminated nanopanel. The favorable suggestion of this survey is that for designing the laminated nano-sized structure should pay special attention to size-dependent parameters because nonlocal and length scale parameters have an important role in the static and dynamic behaviors of the laminated nanopanel.
Meat contains high-value protein compounds that might degrade as a result of oxidation and microbial contamination. Additionally, various pathogenic and spoilage microorganisms can grow in meat. Moreover, contamination with pathogenic microorganisms above the infectious dose has caused foodborne illness outbreaks. To decrease the microbial population, traditional meat preservation methods such as thermal treatment and chemical disinfectants are used, but it may have limitations for the maintenance of meat quality or the consumers acceptance. Thus, non-thermal technologies (e.g., high-pressure processing, pulsed electric field, non-thermal plasma, pulsed light, supercritical carbon dioxide technology, ozone, irradiation, ultraviolet light, and ultrasound) have emerged to improve the shelf life and meat safety. Non-thermal technologies are becoming increasingly important because of their advantages in maintaining low temperature, meat nutrition, and short processing time. Especially, pulsed light and pulsed electric field treatment induce few sensory and physiological changes in high fat and protein meat products, making them suitable for the application. Many research results showed that these non-thermal technologies may keep meat fresh and maintain heat-sensitive elements in meat products.

The increasing of power and processing speed and miniaturization of central processor unit (CPU) used in electronics equipment requires better performing thermal management systems. A typical thermal management package consists of thermal interfaces, heat dissipaters, and external cooling systems. There have been a number of experimental techniques and procedures for estimating thermal conductivity of thin, compressible thermal interface material (TIM). The TIM performance is affected by many factors and thus TIM should be evaluated under specified application conditions. In compact packaging of electronic equipment the chip is interfaced with a thin heat spreader. As the package is made thinner, the coupling between heat flow through TIM and that in the heat spreader becomes stronger. Thus, a TIM characterization system for considering the heat spreader effect is proposed and demonstrated in detail in this paper. The TIM test apparatus developed based on ASTM D-5470 standard for thermal interface resistance measurement of high performance TIM, including the precise measurement of changes in in-situ materials thickness. Thermal impedances are measured and compared for different directions of heat dissipation. The measurement of the TIM under the practical conditions can thus be used as the thermal criteria for the TIM selection.

In this study, we investigated about electrooptics characteristic of three kind of TN cell on the polyimide surface. Monodomain alignments of thermal stressed TN cell over temperature of liquid crystal isotropic phase were almost same that of no thermal stressed TN cells. However, the thermal stressed TN cell have many defects. Also, threshold voltage and response time of thermal stressed TN cells show same performances of no thermal stressed TN cells. There were little changes of value in these TN cells. However, transmittances of TN cells on the polyimide surface decrease with increasing thermal stress time. Finally, the residual DC voltage of the thermal stressed TN cell on the polyimide surface show decrease of characteristics as increasing thermal stress time. Therefore, thermal stability of TN cell was decreased by high thermal stress for the long times.

PURPOSES : This study evaluates the reliability of the patterns of changes in the road surface temperature during winter using a statistical technique. In addition, a flexible road segmentation method is developed based on the collected road surface temperature data. METHODS : To collect and analyze the data, a thermal mapping system that could be attached to a survey vehicle along with various other sensors was employed. We first selected the test route based on the date and the weather and topographical conditions, since these factors affect the patterns of changes in the road surface temperature. Each route was surveyed a total of 10 times on a round-trip basis at the same times (5 AM to 6 AM). A correlation analysis was performed to identify whether the weather conditions reported for the survey dates were consistent with the actual conditions. In addition, we developed a method for dividing the road into sections based on the consecutive changes in the road surface temperature for use in future applications. Specifically, in this method, the road surface temperature data collected using the thermal mapping system was compared continuously with the average values for the various road sections, and the road was divided into sections based on the temperature. RESULTS : The results showed that the comparison of the reported and actual weather conditions and the standard deviation in the observed road surface temperatures could produce a good indicator of the reliability of the patterns of the changes in the road surface temperature. CONCLUSIONS : This research shows how road surface temperature data can be evaluated using a statistical technique. It also confirms that roads should be segmented based on the changes in the temperature and not using a uniform segmentation method.
The Saemangeum embankment construction have changed the flowing on the topography of the coastal marine environment. However, the variety of ecological factors are changing from outside of Saemangeum embankment area. The ecosystem of various marine organisms have led to changes by sea surface temperature. The aim of this study is to monitoring of sea surface temperature(SST) changes were measured by using thermal infrared satellite imagery, MODIS and Landsat. The MODIS data have the high temporal resolution and Landsat satellite data with high spatial resolution was used for time series monitoring. The extracted informations from sea surface temperature changes were compared with the dyke to allow them inside and outside of Saemangeum embankment. The spatial extent of the spread of sea water were analyzed by SST using MODIS and Landsat thermal channel data. The difference of sea surface temperature between inland and offshore waters of Saemangeum embankment have changed by seasonal flow and residence time of sea water in dyke.
