Much of the coal ash by thermal power plant has gradually been increased, however researches on the recycling of bottom ash has not been investigated enough so far. In this research, the lysimeter test was conducted to find out the possibilities of bottom ash as soil amendment to improve the physiochemical properties of sandy topsoil of turfgrass in golf course. The turfgrass growth test and leaching test were conducted on the lysimeter. The lysimeter columns were manufactured with various topsoil mixing ratios of 0, 10, 20, 30, and 50% of bottom ash with sand. As a result of leachate analysis through the lysimeter column, the higher ratios of bottom ash mixed affect significantly on water holding capacity of topsoil sand media with decreasing of the percolation rate. The results of leachate analysis in every three days interval, the pH of leachate increased with the bottom ash ratios, but the volume of $NO_3$-N, $NH_4$-N and K decreased significantly. However, the level of EC of leachate had constantly maintained. These results indicate that the application of bottom ash may improve turfgrass growth with water holding capability and fertility of sandy topsoil. However, the negative effects of the bottom ash also evaluated by reducing water permeability and solubility of $PO_4$-P by adsorption into soil particles. The results indicates that the reasonable mixing ratio of the bottom ash as soil amendment should be less than 20% (v/v) with sand which has a low water-holding and fertility in golf course topsoil layers.

SCR technology, which uses urea-water as a NOx reducing agent, has been widely used to reduce NOx in marine diesel engines. However, as an alternative NOx reducing agent, solid-phase ammonium carbamate has several advantages, such as low-temperature NOx reduction performance and NH3 storage capacity. This study presents a method for evaluating the purity of ammonium carbamate using EA, FTIR, and XRD to investigate the change in the material characteristics of ammonium carbamate when it is exposed to various temperature and pressure conditions. In this study, it was found that the purity of ammonium carbamate can be effectively evaluated via EA analysis. The FTIR analysis results confirmed that the properties of ammonium carbamate did not change even after repeated heating and cooling under thermal decomposition temperature conditions, which may be applied to the SCR system of marine diesel engines. Additionally, it was found that when ammonium carbamate was exposed to the atmosphere for a long time, it transformed into ammonium carbonate.
Periodontal regeneration therapy with bone-substituting materials has gained favorable clinical efficacy by enhancing osseous regeneration in periodontal bony defect. As bone-substituting materials, bone powder, calcium phosphate ceramic, modified forms of hydroxyapatite, and hard tissue replacement polymer have demonstrated their periodontal bony regenerative potency. Bone-substituting materials should fulfill several requirements such as biocompatibility, osteogenecity, malleability, biodegradability. The purpose of this study was to investigate biocompatibility, osteo-conduction capacity and biodegradability of $Na_2O$, $K_2O$ added calcium metaphosphate(CMP). Beta CMP was obtained by thermal treatment of anhydrous $Ca_2(H_2PO_4)_2$. $Na_2O$ and $K_2O$ were added to CMP. The change of weight of pure CMP, $Na_2O$-CMP, and $K_2O$-CMP in Tris-buffer solution and simulated body fluid for 30 days was measured. Twenty four Newzealand white rabbits were used in negative control, positive control(Bio-Oss), pure CMP group, 5% $Na_2$-CMP group, 10% $Na_2O$-CMP goup, and 5% $K_2O$-CMP group. In each group, graft materials were placed in right and left parietal bone defects(diameter 10mm) of rabbit. The animals were sacrificed at 3 months and 6 months after implantation of the graft materials. Degree of biodegradability of $K_2O$ or $Na_2O$ added CMP was greater than that of pure CMP in experimental condition. All experimental sites were healed with no clinical evidence of inflammatory response to all CMP implants. Histologic observations revealed that all CMP grafts were very biocompatible and osseous conductive, and that in $K_2O$-CMP or $Na_2O$-CMP implanted sites, there was biodegradable pattern, and that in site of new bone formation, there was no significant difference between all CMP group and DPBB(Bio-Oss) group. From this result, it was suggested that all experimental CMP group graft materials were able to use as an available bone substitution.
In this study, soft carbon was prepared by carbonization of carbon precursor (pitch) obtained from PFO (pyrolysis fuel oil) heat treatment. Three carbon precursors prepared by the thermal reaction were 3903 (at $390^{\circ}C$ for 3 h), 4001 (at $400^{\circ}C$ for 1 h) and 4002 (at $400^{\circ}C$ for 2 h). After the prepared soft carbon was ground to a particle size of $25{\sim}35^{\circ}C$, the soft carbon was synthesised by the chemical treatment with boric acid ($H_3BO_3$). The prepared soft carbon were analysed by XRD, FE-SEM and XPS. Also, the electrochemical performances of soft carbon were investigated by constant current charge/discharge test, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests in the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved inorganic solvents (EC:DMC=1:1 vol%+VC 3 wt%). The coin cell using soft carbon of $25{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ with 3903 soft carbon ($H_3BO_3$/Pitch=3:100 in weight) has better initial capacity and efficiency (330 mAh/g, 82%) than those of other coin cells. Also, it was found that the retention rate capability of 2C/0.1C was 90% after 30 cycles.
This study investigated the physicochemical characteristics of processing type rice (Deuraechan) with brown rice and brown rice milling different yields (97.4, 96.0, 94.4 and 92.0%). In the results of proximate composition of rice flours with the different milling degrees, moisture contents were 12.92~13.07%, crude protein contents were 6.62~8.47%, crude lipid contents were 0.84~2.52%, crude ash contents were 0.51~1.17%, and crude fiber contents were 0.30~1.16%. The moisture contents were not significantly different. In the results of Hunter's color value of rice flours, L value was the highest in white rice, and a and b values were the highest in brown rice. Water binding capacity of rice flours was the highest in white rice 127.44%, but brown rice was the lowest 114.31%. As for amylogram properties, brown rice was the highest in the initial pasting temperature and temp. at maximum viscosity. However, white rice was the highest in maximum viscosity, viscosity at $50^{\circ}C$, breakdown and setback. In the results of different scanning calorimeter thermal properties of rice flours, brown rice was the highest in onset temperature, peak temperature and end temperature. The enthalpy (${\delta}H$) was the lowest in brown rice flour and the highest in white rice flour.
The strength of steel in a concrete filled steel tube (CFT) is reduced in a fire, but the concrete filled structurally ensures the fire resistance due to its high thermal capacity. This research analyzed the fire resistance performance due to the variances of concrete strength filled inside of steel tube and the load ratios, which can influence on the fire resistance of CFT. As $280{\times}280{\times}6$ CFT columns with the concrete strengths of 24 MPa and 40 MPa and the axial load ratios of 0.9, 0.6, and 0.2 in accordance with KS F 2257-1 and 7 were heated with loading to examine the fire resistance performance, the fire resistance used to 24 MPa concrete showed 27, 113, and 180 minutes according to the axial load ratios, 0.9, 0.6, and 0.2 respectively. In case of 40 MPa concrete, the fire resistance were turned out to be 19 and 28 minutes for the axial load ratios, 0.9 and 0.6 respectively. The results of fire resistance with 40 MPa concrete showed the much lower fire resistance performance than those of 24 MPa concrete. In case of 40 MPa, the fire resistance performance was not increased significantly according to the axial load ratio than that of 24 MPa. The main reason why the higher concrete strength showed lower fire resistance than that of lower guessed the internal stress had the concrete strength weak.
Energy security is a topic of high importance to many countries throughout the world. Countries with access to vast energy supplies enjoy all of the economic and political benefits that come with controlling a highly sought after commodity. Given the desire to diversify away from fossil fuels due to rising environmental and economic concerns, there are limited technology options available for baseload electricity generation. Further complicating this issue is the desire for energy sources to be sustainable and globally scalable in addition to being economic and environmentally benign. Nuclear energy in its current form meets many but not all of these attributes. In order to address these limitations, TerraPower, LLC has developed the Traveling Wave Reactor (TWR) which is a near-term deployable and truly sustainable energy solution that is globally scalable for the indefinite future. The fast neutron spectrum allows up to a ~30-fold gain in fuel utilization efficiency when compared to conventional light water reactors utilizing enriched fuel. When compared to other fast reactors, TWRs represent the lowest cost alternative to enjoy the energy security benefits of an advanced nuclear fuel cycle without the associated proliferation concerns of chemical reprocessing. On a country level, this represents a significant savings in the energy generation infrastructure for several reasons 1) no reprocessing plants need to be built, 2) a reduced number of enrichment plants need to be built, 3) reduced waste production results in a lower repository capacity requirement and reduced waste transportation costs and 4) less uranium ore needs to be mined or purchased since natural or depleted uranium can be used directly as fuel. With advanced technological development and added cost, TWRs are also capable of reusing both their own used fuel and used fuel from LWRs, thereby eliminating the need for enrichment in the longer term and reducing the overall societal waste burden. This paper describes the origins and current status of the TWR development program at TerraPower, LLC. Some of the areas covered include the key TWR design challenges and brief descriptions of TWR-Prototype (TWR-P) reactor. Selected information on the TWR-P core designs are also provided in the areas of neutronic, thermal hydraulic and fuel performance. The TWR-P plant design is also described in such areas as; system design descriptions, mechanical design, and safety performance.

Cold-formed steel studs that are being used as load-bearing members of wall panels for steel houses have a problem with their insulation due to the heat bridging of their web. Some additional thermal insulating materials should be used. To solve this problem, the new-concept hybrid stud, which consists of a galvanized steel sheet (t = 1.0 m - 12.0 m) and a GFRP panel (t = 4.0-6.0 mm), has recently been developed. An investigation on the structural behavior and the strength capacity of this new hybrid stud has been conducted so that it can be used in load-bearing wall panels of residential buildings. This paper describes the axial compression-torsion test results of the hybrid studs under both axial compression and torsion using ATTM. The main factors of the test were the stud length, the magnitude of the initial compressive force, and the loading method of the monotonic or cyclic loading. The torsion was applied increasingly while the initial compression was kept constant to the failure of the hybrid section. The advanced analysis results obtained form the finite element procedure that considered the material properties of the high-strength galvanized steel and the GFRP were compared with the test results for verification.
In recent emerging industry, Display field becomes bigger and bigger, and also semiconductor technology becomes high density integration. In Flat Panel Display, there is an issue that electrostatic phenomenon results in fine dust adsorption as electrostatic capacity increases due to bigger size. Destruction of high integrated circuit and pattern deterioration occur in semiconductor and this causes the problem of weakening of thermal resistance. In order to solve this sort of electrostatic failure in this process, Soft X-ray ionizer is mainly used. Soft X-ray Ionizer does not only generate electrical noise and minute particle but also is efficient to remove electrostatic as it has a wide range of ionization. X-ray Generating efficiency has an effect on soft X-ray Ionizer affects neutralizing performance. There exist variable factors such as type of anode, thickness, tube voltage etc., and it takes a lot of time and financial resource to find optimal performance by manufacturing with actual X-ray tube source. MCNPX (Monte Carlo N-Particle Extended) is used for simulation to solve this kind of problem, and optimum efficiency of X-ray generation is anticipated. In this study, X-ray generation efficiency was measured according to target material thickness using MCNPX under the conditions that tube voltage is 5 keV, 10 keV, 15 keV and the target Material is Tungsten(W), Gold(Au), Silver(Ag). At the result, Gold(Au) shows optimum efficiency. In Tube voltage 5 keV, optimal target thickness is $0.05{\mu}m$ and Largest energy of Light flux appears $2.22{\times}10^8$ x-ray flux. In Tube voltage 10 keV, optimal target Thickness is $0.18{\mu}m$ and Largest energy of Light flux appears $1.97{\times}10^9$ x-ray flux. In Tube voltage 15 keV, optimal target Thickness is $0.29{\mu}m$ and Largest energy of Light flux appears $4.59{\times}10^9$ x-ray flux.

In various industrial places such as power generation plants, petrochemical and unit factories, the demands of systems that produce hot water by utilizing wasted or surplus steam have been increased. Compact steam unit(CSU) is a system that can meet these demands and produce hot water by using surplus or wasted steam, and it is also one of the good solutions in view of energy reuse. The new CSU with a capacity of 1,600 kW was developed with a hybrid plate heat exchanger of which thermal performances are better than a conventional plate heat exchanger, an improved temperature control valve, a user-friendly control system, and other components in this study. The purpose of this study was to obtain performance data of the new CSU through various experiments and utilize them for the CSU commercialization. The experimental results show that heat balances between the hot side(steam) and the cold side(cold water) were within ${\pm}0.77%$, and the fluctuations of outlet temperature of the secondary side which are one of the most important evaluation factors in the CSU were $(0{\sim}0.3)^{\circ}C$.
