  • In this paper. a network theory for generaltransmission systme was extended considering the direction of power flow. Also, a modified network model was suggested for a node with 4 shafts in order to verify the power flow. Based on the extended network theory, a simulation program was developed to analyze a hydro-mecaanical tranmission(HMT) system consistion of two hydrostatic pump motors, severeal planetary gear trains steer differential gear. The simulation result showed that the extendednotwork analysis program develped can predict the power circulation as well as the magnitude of torque and speed for each transmission element and can be used design tool for genaral power transmission system.

  • Newly developed modal transmission-line theory(MTLT) is used to analyze rigorously the optical power distribution in grating-assisted directional couplers(GADCs) with three guiding channels. By defining a novel coupling efficiency ${\eta}$ amenable to the rigorous analytical solutions of modal transmission-line theory, we explicitly evaluate the power coupling and distribution of TM modes. The results reveal that the incident power is sensitively partitioned through three output channels in terms of such grating parameters as the grating period, the duty cycle, and the operating wavelength.

  • Today, as the power trades between generation companies and power customer are liberalized, the uncertainty level of operated power system is rapidly increased. Therefore, transmission operators as decision makers for transmission expansion are required to establish a deliberate investment plan for effective operations of transmission facilities considering forecasted conditions of power system. This paper proposes the methodology for the optimal solution of transmission expansion in deregulated power system. The paper obtains the expected value of transmission congestion cost for various scenarios by using occurrence probability. In addition, the paper assumes that increasing rates of loads are the probability distribution and indicates the location of expanded transmission line, the time for transmission expansion with the minimum cost for the future by performing the Montecarlo simulation. To minimize the investment risk as the variance of the congestion cost, Mean-Variance Markowitz portfolio theory is applied to the optimization model by the penalty factor of the variance. By the case study, the optimal solution for transmission expansion plan considering the feature of market participants is obtained.

  • Wireless power transmission (WPT) is useful technology in near future. There are some kinds of the WPT technologies, WPT via radio waves, resonance coupling, and inductive. Especially the WPT via radio waves is used for multi-purposes from short range to long range application. However, unfortunately it is misunderstood that it is low efficiency and low power. In this paper, I show the theory of beam efficiency between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas and also show some high efficient applications of the WPT via radio waves. Especially, I pick up a wireless power charging system of an electric vehicle and show the experimental results. I show difference between the theory of beam efficiency and the experimental results of short range WPT. I indicate that reasons of poor beam efficiency in the experiment are (1) change of impedance caused by mutual coupling between transmitting antennas and receiving antennas, (2) oblique direction of microwave power to receiving antennas caused by short distance.

  • Gears are useful for power transmission due to excellent power transmission performance, low cost, and compactness. In addition, gears have constant speed ratio, compact structure, and excellent efficiency. In order to transmit higher power, the new multi-range transmission requires gears which have greater strength than the existing transmission. This study evaluates stability and durability through gear analysis of the multi-range transmission in commercial vehicles using ROMAX-DESIGNER program. Also, strength design evaluation is carried out by the analysis results which are compared with gear strength theory of AGMA standard. Bending stress and contact stress on gears are lower than their allowable stresses. Therefore, we can evaluate the safety of the gear strength design in multi-range transmission.

  • Today, as power trades between generators and loads are liberalized, the uncertainty level of power systems is rapidly increasing. Therefore, transmission operators are required to incorporate these uncertainties when establishing an investment plan for effective operation of transmission facilities. This paper proposes the methodology for an optimal solution of transmission expansion plans for the long-term in a deregulated power system. The proposed model uses the probabilistic cost of transmission congestion for various scenarios and the annual increasing rates of loads. The locations and the installation times of expanded transmissions lines with minimum cost are acquired by the model. To minimize the investment risk, the Mean-Variance Markowitz portfolio theory is applied to the model. In a case study, the optimal solution of a transmission expansion plan is obtained considering the uncertain power market.

  • The coupling properties of supermodes guided by grating-assisted directional couplers (GADCs) can be phrased in rigorous modal theory. Such a modal solution for TE modes expressed by simple electrical transmission-line networks is utilized to analyze the power distribution of GADCS with three guiding channels. In particular, the modal transmission-line theory can serve as a template for computational algorithms that systematically evaluate the coupling efficiency that are not readily obtained by other methods.

  • In many countries, the electric power industry is undergoing significant changes known as deregulation and restructuring. These alterations introduce competition in generation and retail and require open access to the transmission network. The competition of the electric power industry causes many issues to surface. Among them, unbundling of the transmission service is probably the most complicated as it is a single and integrated sector and the transmission revenue requirement must be allocated to market participants in a fair way. In these situations, it is valuable to research the methodologies to allocate transmission usage. The power tracing method offers useful information such as which generators supply a particular load or how much each generator (load) uses a particular transmission line. With this information, we can allocate required transmission revenue to market participants. Recently, several algorithms were proposed for tracing power flow but there is no dominant power tracing method. This paper proposes a power tracing method based on graph theory and complex-current distribution. For practicability, the proposed method for transmission usage allocation is applied to IEEE 30 buses and compared with the method proposed by Felix F.Wu.

  • In this paper, oil-paper samples composed of transformer windings were used to investigate the insulation degradation process subjected to partial discharge (PD), with artificial defects inside to simulate the PD induced insulation degradation. To determine appropriate test voltages, the breakdown time obtained through a group of accelerated electrical degradation tests under high voltages was firstly fitted by two-parameter Weibull model to acquire the average breakdown time, which was then applied to establish the inverse power law life model to choose advisable test voltages. During the electrical degradation process, PD signals were synchronously detected by an ultra-high frequency (UHF) sensor from inception to breakdown. For PD analysis, the whole degradation process was divided into ten stages, and chaos theory was introduced to analyze the variation of three chaotic parameters with the development of electrical degradation, namely the largest Lyapunov exponent, correlation dimension and Komogorov entropy of PD amplitude time series. It is shown that deterministic chaos of PD is confirmed during the oil-paper degradation process, and the obtained results provide a new effective tool for the diagnosis of degradation of oil-paper insulation subjected to PD.

  • The resonant mechanism of reradiation interference (RRI) over 1.7MHz from power transmission lines cannot be obtained from IEEE standards, which are based on researches of field intensity. Hence, the resonance is ignored in National Standards of protecting distance between UHV power lines and radio stations in China, which would result in an excessive redundancy of protecting distance. Therefore, based on the generalized resonance theory, we proposed the idea of applying model-based parameter estimation (MBPE) to estimate the generalized resonance frequency of electrically large scattering objects. We also deduced equation expressions of the generalized resonance frequency and its quality factor Q in a lossy open electromagnetic system, i.e. an antenna-transmission line system in this paper. Taking the frequency band studied by IEEE and the frequency band over 1.7 MHz as object, we established three models of the RRI from transmission lines, namely the simplified line model, the tower line model considering cross arms and the line-surface mixed model. With the models, we calculated the scattering field of sampling points with equal intervals using method of moments, and then inferred expressions of Padé rational function. After calculating the zero-pole points of the Padé rational function, we eventually got the estimation of the RRI’s generalized resonant frequency. Our case studies indicate that the proposed estimation method is effective for predicting the generalized resonant frequency of RRI in medium frequency (MF, 0.3~3 MHz) band over 1.7 MHz, which expands the frequency band studied by IEEE.
