  • In general, the communication channel can be modeled as inter-symbol interference(ISI) and additive white gaussian noise channel. Viterbi algorithm is optimum detector for transmitted data at transmitter, but it needs large computational complexity. For the sake of this problem, adaptive equalizers are employed for channel equalization which is not attractive for mixed phase channel. In this paper, we propose the effective new channel equalizer for mixed phase channel and show the better performance than previous equalizers.

  • Among the various methods used for determining control system dynamics, the method using cross-correlation function seems useful if the white noise can be available as a test signal. In this paper, results are reported of a M-sequence generator which was built by means of IC shift register as it designed by the authors. This signal appears very useful and promises future applications in adaptive control systems.

  • In this paper, Forward Error Correction(FEC) that is satisfied with ITU-T Recommendation J.83, Annex B(North American Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications(DOCSIS) for Multimedia Cable Network System(MCNS)) is analyzed. The FEC consist of Reed-Solomon(RS) layer, interleaving layer, randomization layer, and trellis coded modulation(TCM) layer. The effects of quantization of input symbol and of trace-back depth in the Viterbi decoder are simulated over AWGN channels.

  • In this paper, an analytic method to examine the random vibration of multispan Timoshenko frames due to a concentrated load traversing at a constant velocity is presented. A load's magnitude is a stationary process in time with a constant mean value and a variance. Two types of variances of this load are considered: white noise process and cosine process. The effects of both velocity and statistical characteristics of load and span number of the frame on both the mean value and variance of deflection and moment of the structure are investigated. Results obtained from a multispan Timoshenko frame are compared with those of a multispan Bernoulli-Euler frame.

  • In this paper, the constellation rearrangement method for retransmission based on Chase combining, is introduced. And the effectiveness of the recommended constellation rearrangements is analyzed with statistics. Their performance for turbo-coded or convolutional coded bit streams is evaluated with simulation under additive white Gaussian noise environment.

  • A control strategy for flexible structure under irregular disturbance by using of$\boxDr$random gain$\boxUl$is developed and implemented. System equation is transformed to stochastic domain by F-P-K approach from physical domain. A controller is designed in the stochastic domain, accordingly system is controlled by$\boxDr$random gain$\boxUl$in time domain. In the paper, a new control technique is successfully employed for flexible system under white noise, and the result is verified by Monte-Carlo simulation and compared with the performance via LQR controller.

  • In this paper, we present a robust recognition algorithm based on the Wiener filtering method as a research tool to develop the Korean Speech recognition system. We especially used Wiener filtering method in cepstrum-domain, because the method in frequency-domain is computationally expensive and complex. Evaluation of the effectiveness of this method has been conducted in speaker-independent isolated Korean digit recognition tasks using discrete HMM speech recognition systems. In these tasks, we used 12th order weighted cepstral as a feature vector and added computer simulated white gaussian noise of different levels to clean speech signals for recognition experiments under noisy conditions. Experimental results show that the presented algorithm can provide an improvement in recognition of as much as from $5\%\;to\;\20\%$ in comparison to spectral subtraction method.

  • In this research, We derived Recursive Least Squares(RLS) algorithm with adaptive maximum-likelihood channel estimate for digital pulse amplitude modulated sequence in the presence of intersymbol interference and additive white Gaussian noise. RLS algorithms have better convergence characteristics than conventional algorithms, LMS (Least Mean Squares) algorithms.

  • In this paper, we discuss recovery schemes for errors occurring when image data encoded with variable length coding (VLC) is transmitted through additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multiple-access interference in direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) systems. VLC such as JPEG is so sensitive to channel errors that severe degradation in decoded images occurs even if only one or two bits have errors. This is due to the loss of synchronization at the image decoder. We propose a resynchronization scheme using a power allocation method in wireless DS/CDMA transmission. Through simulation, we know that the proposed method has a more robust resynchronization capability and higher objective and subjective quality than the conventional method.

  • We tested the capability of Pointwise Correlation Dimension(PD2), Approximate Entropy (ApEn) and LZ complexity, as alternative measures of a biological signal. For this purpose, we analyzed standard data and a healthy child's 24-hour heart rate variability. Our conclusion is as follows. First, PD2, ApEn and LZ complexity can be used for discerning chaotic attractor, white noise, and periodic signal. Second, these measures show different characteristics on day and night. Third, these measures can be used for detecting time-varying characteristics of biological signals.
