Long chain dicationic ammonium salts were used successfully as phase transfer catalyst in the condensation reactions of aromatic aldehydes in water under ultrasonic irradiation for the first time. The quaternary salt having longer distance between the cation centers was more effective than the mono- and dicationic ones having short chain.

A geologic disasters in Ulreung-island is forming along the slope of pyroclastic, deposits and this paper discusses soil mechanics and properties and morphologies of pyroclastic soil. The typers of degradation are determined by cutting the soil and classified genetically. Paraquat(methyl viologen) is a bis-quaternary ammonium compound as a wide range herbicide. which was first introduced as an oxidation-reduction indicator dye. When paraquat(fatal dose. 1-2g) was administered to men, the oxido-reduction system of cell was repeatedly acted to perpetuate the cell membrane system, Many death cases had been occurred after ingestion of paraquat around Daejon area for the last six months. Tetrathiocyanatocobaltate[II] forms complexes with tertiary amine salts or quarternary ammonium salts which were extractable from aqueous solution by organic solvent. In order to study composition of the complex, the colored crystalline complexes produced were evaluated with elemental analysis, infrared and mass spectra. And also a novel spectrophotometric method for the determination of tertiary amine salt or quarternary ammonium salt with tetrathiocyanatocobaltate[II] was established by organic solvent extraction within coefficient of variation of 1.06-1.35%.

A series of 3'- and 4'-branched carbocyclic nucleosides 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 were synthesized starting from simple acyclic ketone derivatives. The construction of the required quaternary carbon was made using a [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. In addition, the installation of a methyl group in the 3'-position was accomplished using a Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons (HWE) reaction with triethyl 2-phosphonopropionate. Bis-vinyl was successfully cyclized using a Grubbs' catalyst (Ⅱ). Natural bases (adenine, cytosine, uracil) were efficiently coupled with the use of a Pd(0) catalyst.

A very short and concise synthetic route for a novel acyclic version of d4T is described. The required quaternary carbon was successfully installed using a [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement. The condensation of the mesylates 16-18 with an adenine base under standard nucleophilic substitution conditions ($K_2CO_3$, 18-Crown- 6, DMF) in addition to deblocking afforded the target acyclic nucleosides 22-24. In addition, the antiviral evaluations against various viruses were performed.

From the seeds of Zizyphus vulgaris var. spinosus, aporphine alkaloids : nuciferine, N-methylasimilobine, nornuciferine, norisocorydine, caaverine and tetrahydro benzylisoquinoline alkaloid : (+) coclaurine were isolated and identified. Zyzyphusine, a new quaternary aporphinium alkaloid form butanol soluble fraction was isolated and characterized by spectral data.

A solvent extraction system of copper-thiocyanate complex into various types of alkylamines such as secondary, tertiary and quaternary ammonium salt for the determination of trace copper by atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. The maximum extraction of copper shows at 0.1 M-thiocyanate and single extraction with 10 ml of 1% amine-MIBK from 50 ml of aqueous solution is enough to be quantitative for micro amounts of copper. The effect of amine diluents and of diverse ions are also examined.

Polysulfone은 물리적, 화학적 성질이 우수하고 내열성과 내유기용매성등이 우수한 열가소성 수지로서 투과성능도 좋고 배제율도 높아 한외여과막이나 역삼투막, 기체분리막 등에 널리 이용되고 있다. 그러나 소수성 물질이기 때문에 처리과정에 있어서 fouling 발생이 큰 문제점으로 대두되고 있다. 따라서 이러한 fouling 현상을 억제하기 위해 화학적인 개질을 통하여 친수성을 높히는 방법이 필요하다. 본 실험에서는 친수성 고분자를 얻기 위하여 $-R_3N^+$기를 치환을 통하여 도입하였다. quaternary polysulfone의 치환여부를 확인하기 위하여 NMR, FT-IR를 이용하였고, 투과도와 용질배제율을 측정하여 개질의 효과를 살펴 보았다. 그리고 이온반발력을 이용하여 염료용액의 배제율을 향상시킬 수 있었다.
