Optimum Design of Rubber Injection Molding Process (고무사출성형의 적정설계)

  • The optimum mold design and the optimum process condition were constructed upon executing process simulation of rubber injection molding with the commercial CAE program of MOLDFLOW (Ver. 5.2) in order to solve the process-problems of K company relating to cracks, which occurs at the inner cavity wall of C. V. joint boots. As a result it was confirmed that the real cracks occurs at the exactly same position of the cavity as exhibits the defects of weld and meld line and unsatisfactory curing according to the result of simulation. In order to prevent the occurrence of weld and meld line at the defect-position, the location of gate was altered to the optimum position of the cavity. Consequently the filling pattern was established to minimize the degree of the melt-fronts confronting or the melt-flows melding to prevent the occurrence of weld and meld line at the defect-position. It was observed that both gate-positions to maximize the degree of the formation of weld and meld line and air traps are located, respectively, in opposite direction each other with reference to the optimum gate position. In addition, the temperature of mold was raised by $10^{\circ}C$ and maintained at $170^{\circ}C$ for satisfactory curing.

Effect of notch location on the toughness of narrow gap weldment (노치위치에 따른 Narrow Gap 용접부의 인성변화)

  • This investigation studied the toughness variations in the narrow gap weldment with the notch location. Specimens with the notch at the center of the weld metal showed the lowest toughness. As the location of notchmoves to fusion line, the impact properties improve reaching a maximum at the fusion boundaries. This improvement in toughness can be explained by the microstructural feature showing in the narrow gap weldment. "one pass/layer" technique performed in narrow gap welding results in the increased proportion of refined structure as approaching to fusion boundary from weld center and thus leave 100% refined structure along the fusion boundary. HAZ also shows 100% refined structure with respect to base metal structure accompanied with the significant suppression of ductile-brittle transition temperature.mperature.

  • The proper design of the gate location for injection molding of plastic goods is obtained from three-dimensional injection molding analysis for various design alternatives. This paper is study on effect of gate location in injection molding. It have a decisive impact on productivity and quality of plastic goods. This objectives of this paper is to analysis effect of hot runner gate location for resin filling, weld line, injection pressure to manufacture of automobile air cleaner upper case with injection molding machine. Thus, to analysis these problems in this paper, location of gate are gave variety in 4 CASEs. In this paper, the CAE simulation considering each variations in location of gate is performed to predict the cause of faulty which appears in the injection molding process.

  • This study has focused on manufacturing technique of powder injection molding of watch case which made from zirconia powder. A series of computer simulation process was applied to prediction of the flow pattern in the inside of the mould and defects as weld line. The material properties of melted feedstock inclusive of the PVT graph and thermal viscosity flowage properties were measured for obtaining the input data in computer simulation. Also, molding experiment was conducted and the results of experiment showed that good agreement with simulation results far flow pattern and weld line location. On the other hand, gravity and inertia effect have an influence on velocity of melt front because of high density of ceramic powder particles in powder injection molding against the polymer injection molding process. In the experiment, the position of melt front was compared with upper gate and lower gate position. The gravity and inertia effect could be confirmed in the experimental results.

Evaluation of Cryogenic Fracture Characteristics on TIG Weldments of Superconducting Magnets Structural Steel by Small Punch Testing Method (소형펀치 시험법에 의한 초전도 마그넷 구조용강 TIG 용접부의 극저온 파괴특성 평가)

  • In order to evaluate the cryogenic fracture characteristics of structural steels for superconducting magnets of fusion reactor, small punch (SP) testing was performed on austenitic stainless steel (JN1 base metal) and its TIG weldments at 293K, 77K and 4K. The mechanical properties with respect to the extracted location of the weld metal, on the effects of welding heat cycle about base metal near fusion line in TIG weldments were investigated. The mechanical property of the weld metal in TIG weldments depends on distance from welding root, root region of weldments having the lowest mechanical property. The base metal near fusion line showed degradation of mechanical property caused by cyclic heating during the TIG welding. Based on the test results, HAZ was found to be up to 5mm from the fusion line. It is shown that SP testing is a useful tool to evaluate the mechanical properties with respect to the microstructures changes such as HAZ as well as weld metal in TIG weldments at cryogenic temperature.

  • Sheet or plate bending is one of the most important industrial metal forming processes. And considerable attention has been focused on gaining a better understanding of many of bending characteristics. One of defaults in bending process is the springback. In this study, the springback characteristics of tailor-welded strips in U-bending process was investigated. Furthermore, not only the relationships between the springback and the process variables such as the geometry of the tools and thickness combination of workpiece but also the heat effect which affects the springback due to welding process was experimentally considered. First, tailor-welded strips are joined by the laser welding process and consisted of two types of thickness combinations of the SCPI sheet, 0.8t${\times}$1.2t and 0.8${\times}$1.6t to investigate the effect of different thickness combination on the springback. Secondly, two different directionally welded strips, one was welded along the centerline of the strip-width and the other was along the centerline of strip-length, were adopted to compare the effects of the location of weld line on the springback. And three punch profile radii of 3, 9, and 15 m were used. Some cases of the experimental results were simulated by using a commercial FEM code, PAM-STAMP to compare the experimental results to the analytical ones.

One of defaults in bending process is the springback. In this study, the springback characteristics of tailor-welded strips in U-bending process was investigated.   • For the successful forming of tailored blank, it is important to control the deformation of the stretch flange mode, which is strong1y dependent upon the location of weld line and blank shape. In order to investigate the effects of tailored blank design factors on the stretch flange forming, we made the model die which can simulate stretch flange mode. Taguchi method was employed to analyze the sensitivity of blank design factors for the forming of tailored blank. From the results of experiment S/N ratios were calculated and using Variance Analysis, significance of parameters and optimal condition of each factors were extracted. Based on these analyses, the weld line height and the strength ratio and the arc center height were selected as effective parameter. The analysed result was practically applied for Side outer panel stamping process.

  • Importance of using an injection molding analysis has been increased. However the application of it has not been increased because the results of analysis do not sometime match to practical molding. Therefore, the difference of flow analysis and practical molding should be decreased. This study presents reasons of the difference for the location of weld-line in the flow analysis and practical molding on automobile bumper molding.

Fatigue Properties of Friction Weld According to the Location of Small Artificial Defect (미소인공결함의 위치에 따른 마찰용접부의 피로특성)

  • In this study, the rotary bending fatigue test was carried out with two kinds of base metal, martensite stainless steel STR3 and austenite stainless steel STR35 and the dissimilar friction welded material with them. To compare the fatigue fifes according to the notch positions, the small circular defect was worked on the bonded line, 1.0mm and 0.5mm distance form the bonded line. The fatigue limits of the STR3 and STR35 base metal were 429.0MPa and 409.4MPa respectably. In comparison with fatigue life at the same notch positions, the STR35 specimens showed about 190% for base metal, 82% for 1.0mm distance notched specimens higher than that of the STR3. But the fatigue life of the 0.5mm distance notched STR35 specimen showed about 35% lower than that of the STR3 specimen. And the bonded line notched specimen was much lower fatigue life than the other specimens because of separation of the bonded line.
