Objectives : The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of toothpaste-squeezing methods to the amount of toothpaste used among adults. Methods : The subjects in this study were 227 freshmen in a local college. After the intent of a survey was explained by this researcher, how much dentifrice they used was checked to ensure statistical objectivity, and then a survey was conducted. The collected data were analyzed with a SPSS WIN 13.0 program. Results : The findings of the study were as follows:1. As for connections between the way of squeezing and the amount used, the usual amount used, the amount used by horizontal squeezing and the amount used by pea-sized squeezing were respectively 1.12g, 0.66g and 0.46g. The amount used by horizontal squeezing and pea-sized squeezing was less than the usual amount used by 0.46g(41%) and 0.66g(59%) respectively.2. Gender, residential area, educational experiences and daily mean toothbrushing frequency made no differences to the amount of toothpaste used.3. The students who normally used a larger amount of toothpaste used a greater amount of toothpaste as well when they utilized horizontal squeezing and pea-sized squeezing, and the larger amount used by horizontal squeezing led to the greater amount used by pea-sized squeezing. Conclusions : As there were large disparities in the amount of toothpaste used according to the squeezing methods, systematic research efforts should be directed into setting the standard for the recommended amount of toothpaste used for adults and into squeezing method so that they could brush their teeth in an effective manner by using the minimum amount of toothpaste.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the toothpaste squeezing methods and the amount of toothpaste that the daycare teachers apply for the children in order to prevent the overuse of fluoride-containing toothpaste among children, and to understand their educational experiences on oral health and their awareness of the right amount of toothpaste used. Methods: The subjects in this study were 87 teachers at 16 different daycare centers in the city of Sokcho, Gangwon Province. They were interviewed to find out whether they had ever received oral health education and whether they were cognizant of the right amount of toothpaste to be used. And a transverse technique and a pea-sized squeezing technique were selected to look for connections between their toothpaste squeezing methods and the amount of toothpaste used by them. Results: 89.7 percent of the daycare teachers investigated taught to preschoolers how to do toothbrushing after they took meals and had a snack. 36.8 percent of the daycare teachers had children squeeze toothpaste on their own. The amount of toothpaste applied by the daycare teachers at a time was 0.58g. When they utilized two other squeezing methods, transverse technique and pea-sized squeezing technique, they used each 0.38 g (p<0.005) and 0.38 g (p=0.405) of toothpaste. Conclusion: To prevent children from being overly exposed to fluoride-containing toothpaste, daycare teachers should learn about the right amount of toothpaste to be used when oral health education is provided, and the transverse technique should be recommended to ensure the use of the proper amount of toothpaste.
The purpose of this study was to prevent excessive use of fluorine toothpaste. To comparatively evaluate the amount used of the fluorine toothpaste in children from 3 to 6 years old, the toothpaste amount was compared according to toothbrush size and toothpaste squeezing method targeting 84 children in 5 child care centers where were located in Hongseong-gun, Chungnam. The toothpaste amount was compared with a method of squeezing to pea-size and a method of smear on toothbrush, targeting 141 students for the Dept. of Dental Hygiene, who are actually carrying out oral health education to targeting children. The statistical analysis was used SPSS 14.0 K for Windows program(Copyright(c) SPSS Inc.). The following results were obtained. 1. The amount of fluorine toothpaste squeezed on toothbrush for children was 0.29 g. The amount of fluorine toothpaste squeezed on toothbrush for adults was 0.34 g. It was surveyed to use the less amount of toothpaste when squeezing to smaller toothbrush (p<0.05). 2. The amount that children aged 3-6 squeezed as the method of squeezing commonly at ordinary times was 0.31g. The amount that was squeezing to pea-size was 0.21 g. The amount that was squeezed by using smear method was measured to be 0.26g. Less amount of fluorine toothpaste was used with the method of squeezing to pea-size and smear method rather than a method of squeezing commonly at ordinary times(p<0.05). 3. As a result of surveying the students of the department of dental hygiene, the amount of having squeezed to pea- size was 0.23 g. It was surveyed to be 0.15 g when having used the smear method. Thus, it was surveyed to use the less amount of toothpaste when using the smear method(p<0.05). 4. Using smaller toothbrush, the amount used of fluorine toothpaste can be reduced. Both smear method and the method of squeezing to pea-size are available for minimizing careless fluorine intake by less used amount of fluorine toothpaste.
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of dentifrice among children in a bid to provide information on dentifrice including its function to children's parents, the major consumers of dentifrice for child. And it's additionally meant to offer useful information on the production of toothpaste for kid. The subjects in this study were parents with children, who dwelled in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. After a self-administered survey was conducted for about three months from May to July 2007 to gather data on their use of dentifrice for child, a comparative analysis was implemented. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning the state of the use of their children's dentifrice, the largest number of the children(58.1%) started to use toothpaste at the age of one or down, and the most common first toothpaste they used was dentifrice for preschooler(86.8%). As for whether to use fluoride-containing toothpaste, the largest group of the parents(58.1%) gave an affirmative answer. Regarding the form of the toothpaste in use, the majority of their children used toothpaste of cream type(86.2%). The greatest group of the children used the amount of toothpaste that was as large as the three-tenths or four-tenths of the bristles(35.9%). 2. As for the state of the use of dentifrice for kid, the greatest group used that kind of toothpaste(81.4%). In the event of those who didn't use it, the last time when their children used toothpaste for kid was when they were at the western age of 3(33.9%) and 4(33.9%). Concerning the reason why they replaced toothpaste for kid with one for adult, the largest group of the parents did that on their own judgment(58.1%). As to the right time for replacing toothpaste for kid by one for adult, the greatest group considered it advisable for children to start using toothpaste for adult at the western age of 4 or 5(43.2%). 3. In relation to the state of the purchase of toothpaste for their children, the largest group was under the moderate influence of the children when they bought it(45.2%). The greatest group attached importance to the ingredients of toothpaste(41.6%), and the most preferred ingredient was fluoride(56.3%). 53.0 percent took consideration on the content of ingredients or the instructions. 4. In regard to priorities for the choice of toothpaste for their children, they gave top priority to brand(16.7%), followed by quality(14.6%) and ingredients(13.5%). The age of the parents made a statistically significant difference to the children's age when they started using toothpaste, and how they started to do that and whether they used fluoride-containing toothpaste were statistically significantly different according to that as well(p < 0.01). In regard to the impact of the occupation of the parents, the use of fluoride-containing toothpaste was more common among the stay-at-home mothers(p < 0.01).

This study carried out questionnaire survey and experiment on oral hygiene effects according to the actual condition of using oral care products and the amount of toothpaste used targeting 40 freshmen and sophomores in dental hygienics in some universities from November 8, 2010 to November 26. The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS WIN 15.0 program. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. The result of actual condition of toothbrushing is as follows. As the answer of a question about whether or not toothbrushing after every meal at ordinary times, the largest was 47.5% of being average. The occasion of toothbrushing before going to bed at ordinary times was the largest with 47.5%. The daily toothbrushing frequency was 3 times mostly and the general toothbrushing method at ordinary times was a rolling method. The frequency of exchanging toothbrushes for the past 1 year was 3 times, which is the largest with 45.0%. 2. As a result of the actual condition of using oral care products, the majority of students don't use electric toothbrush, interdental brush, or mouth-rinse except dental floss. Accordingly, there need to be education and promotion with diverse methods so that a patient oneself can prevent oral disease by selecting and using oral care products that are proper for each individual. Also, it was indicated that there is no big difference in oral hygiene effects depending on the amount of toothpaste used. Thus, to avoid wasting toothpaste, we need to educate and promote to use the amount of toothpaste under 0.3g.

The purpose of study was to improve the oral hygiene methods for early childhood. The author investigated the oral hygiene materials for early childhood and the oral hygiene methods used by 672 caregivers in Iksan city. The oral hygiene materials were oral tissue, finger brush, toothbrush sets according to the growth stages, electric toothbrush, child toothbrush, toothpaste sets according to the growth stages including eatable toothpaste, and child toothpaste, The rate of caregivers who used each materials was 62.5% for oral tissue, 70.9% for finger brush, 55.9% for toothbrush sets, and 87.4% for eatable tooth-paste. 79.0% of caregivers began toothbrushing from first eruption and about 1 year of age. The rate of swallowing toothpaste was 22% before 48 months, 9% from 48 to 59 months, and 3% after 60 months. The rate of children brushed by caregivers was 52% before 48 months, 42% from 48 to 59 months, and 26% after 60 months. The basic method of oral hygiene management for early childhood is to remove the dental plaque by toothbrushing, and the toothpaste may be used. Suffocation, accidental swallowing, and injury to the throat must be avoided. Generally, the fluoride toothpaste is not recommended before 3 years of age. The least amount of fluoride toothpaste should be used and caregivers should supervise children to prevent the swallowing of toothpaste.

Dentifrices comtaining SLS of 2.2% and 0.0% were applied to 60 subjects for 4 weeks in this study. Dentifrice is used for salivary and oral bacteria amount change according to its SLS contents in toothpaste. The results were as follows. Anaysis of LSL contents befor and after the after experiment in salivary and bacterial count oral cavity didn't show significant difference in time interval. There was no correlation between salivary flow rate and bacterial count in the oral cavity according to content of SLS. Dentifrice of 2.2% content satisfied the subjects much more than that of 0.0% content(p<0.001).
Objectives: To compare and evaluate the degree of abrasion of the denture base resin according to the type of denture cleansers. Methods: Denture base resin specimens were prepared and dried. The resin specimens were installed in the automatic brushing machine so that the toothbrush weighed 200 g. The brushing was performed 1,000 times each, a total of 10,000 times using (1) distilled water (DW), (2) non-abrasive cleanser (NAC), and (3) toothpaste (TP), respectively. Thirty specimens were allocated for each group. The thickness of abrasion by brushing was calculated by converting the weight of the specimen. Results: In all DW, NAC, and TP groups, significant differences were found in the average amount of abrasion of the resin specimen due to 1,000 to 10,000 brushings (p<0.001). The average abrasion amount of the resin specimen due to brushing 10,000 times was 2.31±1.20 ㎛ in DW group, 2.52±0.25 ㎛ in NAC group, 6.50±0.60 ㎛ in TP group, and the amount of abrasion in the TP group was statistically significant compared to other groups (p<0.001). Conclusions: The use of TP is not recommended as a method for maintaining the longevity of dentures and for oral health, and NAC was considered to be possible to be used as a denture cleanser because it had a similar amount of abrasion of that of DW.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting the use of oral hygiene products in infants. Methods: From October 2015 to December 2015, astructured questionnaire survey was conducted for infants and parents about the infants' oral hygiene product use from 0 to 4 years of age in Seoul and other metropolitan areas. Results: The use of oral tissues for infants and children was more frequent in infants, with less than four uses of oral tissues per 10 infants. The overall amount of toothpaste usage among infants was lower than those of infants whose parents are high school or college graduates. The number of oral tissues used per infant per week was less among infants who sucked less than 4 times per 10 infants. The frequency of use of infant mouthwash per week in every 10 infants was less than those who swallow mouthwash less than once. The number of mouth rinses after the use of oral tissues for infants was high in boys, and the number of infants who sucked oral tissues was less than 4 times when used 10 times. The number of mouth rinses after the use of toothpaste was less for infants with college-graduate parents. The factors affecting the number of mouth rinsings after using oral tissues for infants were gender and sucking frequency. Conclusions: In this study, the oral hygiene products for infants were found to differ and affect the usage, the frequency of use, and the number of mouth rinses according to the general characteristics of infants' and parents and the use of oral hygiene products.
The aim of this study was to compare fluoride release and surface changes according to different orthodontic bracket adhesives the application of fluoride products. We used non-fluoridated composite resin Transbond fluoridated composite resins Blugloo and LightBond, resin-modified glass ionomer Rely $X^{TM}$ Luting 2, and conventional glass ionomer Fuji $I^{(R)}$. Fluoride release of five orthodontic bracket adhesives and fluoride release ability after application of three fluoride products (1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride gel, Tooth Mousse $Plus^{(R)}$, Fluor Protector, and a toothbrush with sodium fluoride-containing toothpaste) were measured using a fluoride electrode that was connected to an ion analyzer. After 4 weeks of fluoride application, the surface roughness and surface morphology were examined using a surface roughness tester and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The amounts of fluoride release were observed not only on application of Tooth Mousse $Plus^{(R)}$ and Fluor Protector on resin-modified glass ionomer Rely $X^{TM}$ Luting 2 and Fuji $I^{(R)}$, but also during tooth brushing using fluoride-containing toothpaste. After application of Tooth Mousse $Plus^{(R)}$, except Transbond XT, the surface roughness increased, and all orthodontic adhesives showed a partial drop of micro-particle filler. On application of 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride gel on all orthodontic bracket adhesives, their surface roughness increased. To bond the orthodontic bracket, resin-modified glass ionomer Rely $X^{TM}$ Luting 2 and Fuji $I^{(R)}$ adhesives are highly recommended if the amount of fluoride release is considered to confer a preventative effect on dental caries, and among the fluoride products, Tooth Mousse $Plus^{(R)}$ and Fluor Protector are better than 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride gel, and these are expected to prevent dental caries even during tooth brushing with fluoride-containing toothpaste.
