This study attempts to develop the scale of 'Caregiving Affirmation Scale' for Korean Caregivers for the Aged and to testify the possibility of generalizing the scare. Mixed methods of qualitative and quantitative researches were used to achieve the purpose of the study. The steps of developing the scale were proceeded as follows: Firstly, 40 items were identified through the qualitative study and the literature reviews. Secondly, the content validity was verified through the professional group survey in addition to confirm the questionnaire items by the 1st survey. And thirdly, the construct validity and concurrent validity of the factors of 'Caregiving Satisfaction' were explored by performing the 2nd survey. As the results of the study, the total 16 items of 'Caregiving Affirmation scale' identified with the four sub-factors as follows; 1) Improvement of the care skill and a sense of fulfillment; 2) Possibility of contributions to other persons; 3) Acceptance of the aged; and 4) Improvement of Self-value. The reliability value of Cronbach's α was 0.89 with the high internal consistency and the confirmatory factor analysis showed the relationship between the items and each factor were also statistically significant. Thus, the content validity was verified. Also the correlation with the affirmative care recognition and the life satisfaction was 0.65, which meant the concurrent validity exists. The Caregiving Affirmation Scale for Korean Family Caregivers for the aged is expected to be used at the social welfare practice settings for the aged.

Nowadays, the change of the social structure such as the elderly society and the broken traditional family conception is progressing rapidly. The social change produced a lot of problems, and the welfare from among these is the urgent problem. The welfare for the aged is very important problem in an aging society. The changes of industrial and economic structures also caused the increase of double-income families. The numbers of schoolchildren decreased rapidly because of the low birth and elderly society. So, many idle spaces of existing school facilities have emerged, and these left spaces is being blamed for the fiscal waste. If these idle spaces were used for the welfare-facilities, it will be of assistant to solve the problem about welfare and use the school facilities effectively. And then, the big profit from these enterprises can be used for the better welfare for education.
We are confronted by increase in old people due to the improvement in medical science, public hygiene and socioeconimic status in 20th century. But our medical security system for old people dees not meet the need for medical service of old people. Current medical insurance system restricts term and extent in allowance although the characteristics of the disease of the aged people need medical care of Bong duration and high cost. And in the medicaid system the speciality of the aged people is not recognized and the budget of the government is scanty. In addition many old people to our country are in economic distress due to low income. But the government authority does not give sufficient consideration for eld people in law, policy and budget. To improve social security system for old people it is necessary to increase the budget for the security of old people, to enhance the traditional respect for the aged, to improve medical security system by improving the accessibility to medical service and by expanding the allowance of medical insurance, and to expand the public welfare institutions. And these are roles for all the family. the society and the nation as well as the aged people themselves.
The recent increase in elderly population poses various problems in the field of social infrastructure and the living environments for the aged. Providing enough housing for the elderly has become one of the fundamental goals in social welfare policies. In light of these current condition, it is necessary to understand the demands of the aged in terms of the standards of living conditions in which they would be satisfied in order to better serve them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic design data for architects and builders by analysing the demands and characteristics of residents in privately-owned housings for the elderly in Korea and Japav. The method of this research was based on the comparison analysis of polls taken in Korea and Japav. The results of this research are as follows: Because the polls show that the elderly want to continue their current life-style after placed in a elderly-care facility, when designing housing for the elderly, it must not be considered separate from the general society. it must be designed in way so that the residents can fully interact with the general society. Also, in order to achieve above goals, social welfare policies must be reconsidered to meet the needs of the aged populatiov.

Purpose: This basic research tries to provide planning concept of elderly housing which can cope with the needs of the aged society. Methods: This study has been conducted mainly by literature investigation research. Previous researches include Universal and Barrier-Free Design, Elderly Housing Standards, Elderly Welfare Act and other related acts, various papers related to elderly housing, and so on. To set up the Planning concept of elderly housing, elements or indices of previous studies have been comparatively analysed. Results: Elderly housing has been divided into individual type, group type and facility type according to the residents' health and operation system of the housing. This paper focuses on the individual type among three categories. Seven concepts of the elderly housing have been derived as the outcome of this research - Safety, Accessibility, Amenity, Distinguishment, Adaptability, Convenience, and Sociality. Implications: This concept will provide the planning direction on the construction and renovation for Elderly Housing in the future.

The aged population increasing rapidly, the population rate of over 65 years old was over 7.5% in 2000 in Korea. It means that Korea is aging society. But, the aged welfare accommodation are still insufficient and more facilities accommodating the aged should be built. This situations made a new concept of silver town of the welfare facility for the aged. The purpose of this study was to find the difference of preferences about silver town between elderly group and pre-elderly group in Chungseo province. Focused on housing type and space composition of silver town, the results of this study will provide some useful information for the development of silver town and for further studies. It is very important to refer to the preference about silver town of elderly group and pre-elderly group for planing the silver town. Main results of this study showed that silver town was the most preferable elderly housing alternative for elderly group. And silver town should be provided health care center for elderly group.
The study researches the actual preparations for elderhood as well as recognizes general preparations for it, and analyzes the demand for educational programs on elderly life. Married women aged 35 years to 60 years who live in Jeju province were surveyed. The data were analyzed according to frequency, t-test, and one way ANOVA analysis. The results of this study are as follows: First, most middle-aged women aren't prepared for elderhood. Second, regarding the contents of the educational programs on elderly life, it was found that the following were in high demand: that the part of life design establishes positive old-age form, maintenance of good health, investment knowledge, leisure activities, and effective communication with family members. Third, significant differences in demand for educational programson elderlylife were found according to age, the age of the last child, income, the age at which one prepares for elderhood, and the amount of funds reserved for elderhood.
For 387 married women in their 20s to 50s, we inquired about the differences in whether they intended on moving into a welfare facility, depending on their views on supporting the elderly and the burden of supporting elderly parents, and tried to find out factors that would affect their decision to move into a welfare facility. With those objectives in mind, we conducted a survey targeting married women in their 20s to 50s who live in Seoul, Daejun or a city or county in Choongnam-do, and carried out frequency analysis, intersection analysis, one-way ANOVA and judge analysis. Our findings from those analyses are summarized as follows. First, when considering married women's characteristics and examining their intention of moving into a welfare facility for the elderly, there was a meaningful difference in their intention depending on age, academic background, occupation, and area of residence. Second, our analysis of the differences in their intention of moving in, based on married women's view on supporting the elderly and the burden of supporting elderly parents, indicates that due to these responsibilities, the greatest number of married women expressed their intention of moving in if a convenient facility for the elderly and service were provided. However, the analysis for the intention of moving in depending on savings for old age, did not exhibit any meaningful difference. Third, from the examination of determining factors for married women's intention of moving into a welfare facility for the elderly, based on age, academic background, occupation, residential area, responsibility for supporting an elderly family member and savings for old age, it was found that the burden of support was the only meaningful effective factor.
Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative research was to understand the meaning of the depression in low income elderly women. Methods: Participants were 15 elderly women, aged between 60 and 80 who were registered in two senior welfare centers in Seoul. Data were collected from June to December, 2012 after having obtained consent from participants. In-depth interviews were done with open-ended questions about their depression experiences, which were audio-taped and transcribed with verbatim. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to discover the categories considering their relationships and abstractness. Results: Depressions of aged women were a part of the their life throughout their long lived hardship and was implied unhealed wounds within the relationship. Participants did not know how to manage with depression symptoms that they tried to overcome individually but due to decreased activities and interpersonal relationships, their depressions were tended to continue. They have tried to get out from depressive symptoms, but it still remains unseen shadow of mind. Conclusion: This results suppose that social support and aged welfare policy included reliving the economical difficulty and improving relationships will be provided to manage the depression for low income elderly women.
This study examined life in old age and images of the aged perceived by middle-aged and old-aged generations through indepth interviews with 30 persons aged 40s through 80s residing in three areas (city or county) in capital region in Korea to use it as basic information in planning social welfare policy and reorganizing social services in response to population aging in capital region in Korea. In terms of economic life of the middle-aged and olde-aged generations perceived older people's opportunities for work were rarely given to the aged due to ageism and negative stereotypes of aging and the aged, and the aged tended to regard themselves less able or unable to work. In terms of social life of the aged both middle-aged and old-aged generations perceived that the frequency of social participation was low, and the daily life of the aged was found mostly aimless, unorganized and unplanned. In terms of psycho-social life of the aged both generations still felt that they were not alienated from the family, neighbors, and the society. In terms of social welfare services both generations thought the aged needed basic services such as income maintenance, health care, housing services, and particularly they felt lack of social services. The old-aged generation was willing to travel to the distance taking more than one hour to receive social services that they would need. Both the middle-aged and the old-aged agreed upon the necessity of preparation for old age and the benefits of earlier preparation, however, they said that they could not prepare for their old age due to lack of social programs to help preparation for old age and due to spending for rearing and education of their children. In terms of perceived life in old age both middle-aged and old-aged generations tended to be slightly positive, but the degree of positiveness differed between respondents from urban area and those from rural area regardless of generations. Images of the aged were perceived to be overwhelmingly negative while positive images were very few in number regardless of generations. This finding may suggests that negative stereotypes on aging and the aged are also prevalent in Korean society like in Western societies. Based on findings of this study some implications for social policies in response to population aging in capital region were suggested.
